Kim's Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee @ Jalan Eunos Branch Kims first opened a stall in a coffeeshop at Changi Road in the early 1970's. (At 5 1/2 mile Changi Road) Oveall, their hokkien prawn mee is in my opinion, better than many other comparable fried hokkien mee. What is unique about it is that Kim's always wear long sleves and pants with a shiny Rolex watch pluc a distinctive Mercedes belt. He has two large woks. His version like that of the old school style Hokkien mee is the drier version. Another famous stall serving drier hokkien mee is at old airport road. The old airport road stall gives less value as his $5/- is a small packet with sliced chil…

Things haven’t changed for this provision shop frozen in time... This shop looks run-down. But since it is located in an old HDB estate... in fact, it brings character to the whole area... Hey! I am not stooping down to do toilet "business".. don't get me wrong! Looks like may survive.. although the shop does not look modern, yet the goods are displayed in an orderly fashion.. and the shop also looks neat and spacious... This lady was seeking advice from the shop-keeper. And I heard, she very much took the shop-keeper's advice.. Thus nothing beats "expert" advice.. Which one can no longer find in a convenience stall.…

[Note: Masjid in Malay simply means a Mosque.] Masjid Hajjah Fatimah was built between 1845 and 1846. It stands on the site of what used to be the house of its founder, Hajjah Fatimah, from whom it takes its name. Hajjah Fatimah was a wealthy Malay woman from Melaka. She married a Bugis prince and was widowed at a young age upon which she took over her husband’s business with great success, conducting extensive trade and owning many steamers and sailing vessels. In the late 18303, her home was ransacked twice by thieves. Grateful to Allah that she was unharmed, she donated money and the land which her house stood on towards the building of a mo…

Not too common sight.. are the grafitti art (advertisements)in new lifts... In the past, whenever a new HDB estate has just T.O.P. the lift walls are littered with every square inch covered by opportunistic advertisers hawking their business. These advertisers would find empty spaces on the temporary protective lift walls and paste their ads. Some even resort to defacing their competitor's ads by tearing away the contact numbers. Or simply paste theirs on top of the competitor's. In recent years, many developers would place a notice "demanding" such opportunists not to paste it onto the lift walls; as they have a specific notice board nearby. They merely have to see…

My personal aversion to glass table tops stems from several factors. 1. This is primarily due to its incompatibility with porcelain, mugs, and glass materials. 2. The sound produced when these items come into contact with the glass surface is unappealing, regardless of how carefully they are placed on the table. 3. Additionally, using a plastic surface protector detracts from the aesthetic, as it becomes unsightly with the bubbles that form on its surface. Frequently, the surface area becomes adhesive [sticky] as a result of the plastic covering.

Kandang Kerbau Market History. Today it is renamed Tekka Market Tekka Market, also known as Kandang Kerbau Market, was built in 1915 and became a well-known marketplace for fresh cut meat. The name, Kandang Kerbau, made reference to the surrounding cattle trade and means "buffalo enclosure" in Malay. The Chinese called it tek kah because of the wild bamboo found in the area. The original market was located across Serangoon Road, opposite the present site. Tekka Market was popular amongst all communities and known as the "people's market". It gained a reputation for its varied and reasonably priced fresh vegetables, meat and seafood. During the redevelopment of ".e …
