Dear Dhiren, 1. I hope I get your question correct: I believe you are asking about a " Geomancer " and " Feng Shui practitioner ". 2. In the Far East, many Feng Shui practitioners are known as a Geomancer rather than specifically called a Feng Shui practitioner or Master. Thus you will find many Geomancy companies with names like: " ABC Geomancy "; " Way Geomancy " etc... 3. Even Dr Evelyn Lip, a trained architect who researched on ' Feng Shui ' used the term " Geomancy " rather than Feng Shui. Thus in all her ' Feng Shui ' books, she give the title e.g. Basic Geomancy etc... 4. She also used the term a " Geomancer " instead of " Feng Shui practitioner " in the topics wr…

Dear Steven, Please see below:- Here, I am referring to either using the Eight House Theory or for advanced users, their Ba Zhi i.e. if they are a weak water person than, relate it to the location e.g. North = water element (which is not favourable to the weak fire person). For example, where East is the Sickness sector (for a period 7 house). Here, if this sector is considered inauspicious, one could inadvertently bounce back twice the `bad luck'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  3. I HAVE BEEN STUDYING/READING BOOKS ON THE SUBJECT OF FENG SHUI FOR 3 YEARS NOW. IN THAT TIME IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT ONE BUILDING WILL SEEM TO RESPOND POSITIVELY TO THE CURES OF ONE SCHOOL OF FENG SHUI WHILE ANOTHER RESPONDS BETTER TO ANOTHER, FOR EXAMPLE: BLACK HAT MAY SUGGEST BLUE/ WATER IN THE NORTH IF IT IS A PROBLEMATIC AREA,WHILE COMPASS WILL SUGGEST TO REDUCE THE NORTH WITH GREEN WOOD (IF NORTH IS A NEGATIVE DIRECTION IN THAT PARTICULAR HOME). IT TAKES A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TRIAL AND ERROR AS WELL AS INTUITION TO DISCOVER TO WHICH THE BUILDING WILL RESPOND.

Dear Steven, It would depend on each case as no two situations are identical. Overall, when we talk of a waterfall, it can either be manmade or natural. But usually, it should be looked at a macro level i.e. the site. For example if it is a plot of land allocated to a condominium, the whole condominium project can be looked at (or must be looked at in total.) Good shapes are e.g. the horseshoe design layout; the U shape where your units are at the base of the `U' etc... I am afraid to give a standard answer to this as I mentioned, one has to look at the unit / house, the distance to the waterfall, the angle of the waterfall, the size and activity of water generated by th…

Dear Steven, 1. As Castles come in various designs, shape and profile i.e. differing in their top-down view and elevation, depending on the castle, it may be classified differently. 2. Overall, in my opinon in a very general sense, I would normally, view a castle especially if it is squarish as of the earth element. As mention, this is a general statement: 1. In my mind if the plot of land is squarish. 2. A castle because of the need for defense is always flat at the top even if there are towers e.g. at each corners. Even the towers are usually flat. (I am not referring to pointed roof toped `castles'). 3. Castles are made of huge blocks of stones and in my mind, would b…

Dear Linda, Please see below:- In my opinion, it is best not to place a mirror as it is not meant to "neutralise" this. A mirror is used for other situations and if used, it should usually be looked at with a perspective of the house either after having analysed the house by a FS practitioner or using Flying Star analysis in conjunction with Shapes and Form. For shapes and form, we look at how yin or dark this area is ... Warmest Regards, Cecil

  9. Dear Anon, 1. Feng Shui practitioners can be divided into several categories or specialties. 2. Nowadays, it is not often one can find a Feng Shui Master or Grand master `tasked' to look at large sites. 3. In older times, there are few Feng Shui Masters especially Imperial FS Masters tasked at looking into huge sites for cities etc... Some of them are even geologists etc... They are schooled at determing sites. 4. Nowadays, this form of Feng Shui is `rare' and without practise, it is in my opinion a dying art. We seldom if ever hear of new cities being built thus many FS practitioners especially the better ones are not planning for smaller projects. These smaller project…

  11. Dear Anon, I do agree with you on the goldfish. Personally, I tried rearing goldfish, and they die mostly around 6 months. I am not sure, like your friend, whether this is a common occurence or not ie. do they live not more than 6 months to a year? I wonder myself. But, for kois, they can last for several or more years. I have reared kois and the ones that I bought 3 years ago (from 6 to 7 inches) have grown, I mean really grown to 2 or more feet. I believe, kois can last more than 10 years or more (I guess so) maybe I am wrong. Must go and find a copy of Encylopedia of Koi Fishes, which I placed somewhere to confirm this. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon; I read the same book and asked Cecil about it in the General Advice section. You can go there and see his answer to me. On a more direct note, I have noticed that I have a greater personal affinity towards this type (Taoist) of Feng Shui because of its usage of more intuitive methods than the other schools of Feng Shui. As a practicing minister I have found it to be the "finishing school" so to speak, in my study and use of Feng Shui and that by my congregation. I would however tell anyone that the use of more than one school is of greater benefit and provides a wider field of accuracy. While reading and using Dr. Baolin Wu's book I noticed a deeper perception …

Dear Steven, Overall, this subject can be a `controvesy' amongst FS practitioners. The controvesy arise also because: All of us do not relate to the same size or dimension of a fish tank. This has more to do with the Yin and Yang concept. Normally, it is best to make a bedroom more Yin. This is why, a FS practitioner may advise their client not to place a plant in the room. This is because a plant is growing and thus creates " Yang " than Yin. For a Fish Tank, one can still place a fish tank especially if it is a small one. Some people may have large fish tanks in their bedroom and feel comfortable with it. While others may not. It is the same as a mirror next to one's be…

Dear Steven, Please see below:- Generally these are simply beliefs. And subject to various comments for and against it. It is best not to rely too much on the words of Fish Shop owners. Unfortunately, because of the spread of such beliefs, many people do take the `information' provided seriously. Here, one should see if there are any `hidden' agenda. Arowana fishes, depending on their size and `breed' are not cheap. Thus, the potential to make more profit exists selling such fishes against even popular but cheap fishes. If one can sell us a Mercedes Benz, the profit to be made may be much higher than buying a cheaper car. Selling Kois are popular because, they ca…

Hello everyone: When I was in Hawaii I saw trees that looked like the shape of fish scales. I don't know the name of this tree but I believe it is in the pine family. I haven't seen these trees here in California. Would anyone know the name of this tree? I am curious as to whether having one on your property is "good luck" or portends "bad luck" in Chinese lore. Thank you.

Dear Anon, Please see below:- More importantly, I usually choose a house in my opinion, that has excellent Shapes and Form and the same time matches me. I look out for poison arrows aimed at my house and make it a point to neutralise it. In some of the photo Tour pictures, I use a gift dragon aimed at a poison arrow near-by. Even houses with `excellent' Feng Shui may have poison arrows aimed at it. So, `protect', `protect' and protect vulnerable areas. The only other consideration is to take note of `sickness' sectors or any other sectors that are out of balance. For pants, I prefer wear especially black or blue. I avoid wearing pink or Red. In fact, I do not have…

In managment studies, the familiar term is: Situtational Approach. Here the familiar word `It depends' is used. Under the above management concept, it is said that not all situations are the same. Thus it depends. We can easily apply this concept to Feng Shui and when we replace the word `management', we get the " Situational Approach to Feng Shui'. And the key word is `It depends' Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Further to what I mentioned earlier: 1. In real life, our inclination is not like extremes: hot or cold continuum. 2. Most of us are somewhere within the continuum. 3. For persons (or those who want to be FS practitioners) who are more abstract, or love more of drawings or graphics, can build on Shapes and Form and closer to this area. 4. For those who are more `mathematical', logical, should go for e.g. Flying Star Feng Shui. For example, one Western School Feng Shui, if you read the `Masters' credentials, he graduated from Bachelor in Mathematics or this close to this area, for quite sometime practises only Flying Star Feng Shui. If you were to visit the sit…

  19. Started by Jola,

Dear Jolanta, Please see below:- It is best to avoid `fixed' template Feng Shui as it is not based on Traditional Feng Shui. When we consider a toilet, the more important concern is where is it located. Here the location of the toilet is more important: 1. Where possible it should share an external wall. 2. Not be located above the main door 3. Next to the main door. The above are some of the considerations. Thus the concept of the wealth sector at 3/4 wall of the toilet is if one looks closely, a flawed concept. `Fixed' templates is easy to follow but it does not have any merits under Traditional Feng Shui. Can we for sure say that this spot is our Wealth sector, a…

Dear Anon, 1. I also have read somewhere, quite sometime ago of the Japanese decended from the Chinese. 2. Sometime back when I took some classes on Japanese language, I was amazed to find that the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 have similar sounds to the Chinese Hokkien dialect. Exact pronounciation. 3. If you were to ask a Japanese, they would most probably `kill' us for saying so as the Japanese is a `proud' race and in my opinion, some of them think themselves as higher class than Chinese or even other races. 4. For those who are interested, I have attached an extract from the Reader's Digest. Please wait for this 100k file to load:- Basically, this article tells of the " Mo…

  22. Dear Kaushal, 1. Can I check with you: Is it that when you enter the main entrance, you see the staircase or is the staircase facing the main door. 2. If the situation is that when you first enter the main entrance door and see the staircase (inside the house), then: 3. It is best to (if you) can use a partition to block the view. 4. If it is the `second' situation where the staircase faces the main door, then what you do is thus acceptable i.e. placing a mirror to deflect the sha qi. 5. As the impact is on the main door, it implies that Qi is `distrubed' when entering the home. In this senario, where possible, it should be rectified to ensure that life is `smooth'. Warme…

  24. Dear Anon, Further to my earlier comments: 1. Activites like buying a lotto or sweepstake ticket is also interesting. Here, it also gives a person Hope or for some people, something to look forward to. 2. Contrary to popular belief, even in Taiwan, not many people or the majority of population (like the west) are equally intriqued with Feng Shui and other of such activties such as face reading, and other geomancy fields. Feng Shui Masters are far and rare. In my opinion, it can be the ratio of e.g. the ratio of doctors to the population or less. 3. In Cate Bramble's website or article, you will notice that he `duped' prominent politicians and businessmen etc... 4. This i…

Dear Steven, Generally, it is very difficult to comment based on a few characters of the English language, as there are many variants or terminology used. Perhaps, if you can later recall, some of the characteristics, this may help. Some Chinese Feng Shui methods, may not be accurate because, in the past, it was said that a certain Chinese emperor, planted falsehood, while selfishly kept the `real secrets' with him etc... Thus, not all literature, even in the past may be used. Warmest Regards, Cecil Thank
