From the elemental view, that's good, but I haven't bought the house because East is also my death direction. If I'm a renter instead of an owner, will I still be affected by the death direction?

Dear Mei Lee, Generally, it has more to do with "commonsense approach" to Feng Shui. This is because, if the site / slope is "well maintained" it is fine. But in some cases, such as poor piling done and due to heavy (or very heavy rainfall), and if the slope is not protected, we often see pictures on houses on the "hill" breaking up or the slope causing a landslide - coming down to the lower home.
