  1. Dear Anon, 1. Some FS practitioners consider it not as auspicious to have the kitchen next to the main entrance. But this is quite common in many new apartments and should not pose any problems especially if the stove position is located properly. The stove (or if it has side knobs) should normally face inwards. 2. For the toilet next to the main door, this is best avoided if one can. There is nothing much one can do here other than to keep the toilet airy and bright and close the door when not in use. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Under one aspect of house suitability using Ba Zi Feng Shui; if the house is considered a " Wood house " by virtue that the main entrance is facing say East or South East. And one member (especially the breadwinner) is a Strong Earth person; in this situation: 2. Under the Five Elements Concept: 2.1 A `WOOD' HOUSE vs `STRONG' EARTH PERSON Good Match. The wood house is considered favourable as it helps to "control" or help (aid) a Strong Earth person. 2.2 A `WOOD' HOUSE vs `WEAK' EARTH PERSON Inauspicious. As wood will further weaken a Weak Earth Person. 3. The above is one of the many aspects we look at the relationship between Ba Zi (Pillars of Destiny usin…

Dear Anon, 1. Some `Western Traditional' School of Feng Shui particularly those who practise Flying Star Theory have concern about the rotation of a metallic fan. To them, it circulates metal and their concern is that if a sector is out of balance and if metal is the catalyst, this is a `concern'. 2. In my opinion, looking at the commonsense approach to Feng Shui: Nowadays, many fans no longer have metal blades. And even if the blades are metallic does not mean that it generates `metal'. In view of the above, I personally feel that there should not be any cause for concern over the use of fans. I believe that they are a cheap and economical method of cooling a house. Th…

  4. These are some considerations: 1. Under symbolism in Feng Shui, instead of hanging mirrors and faceted crystal balls; in traditional Feng Shui; a hulu or bottle gourd is often used, instead. 2. As mentioned in many previous messages; usually; in general bad Feng Shui arise when a home has three or more major "leaks". 3. Often, although the toilet is considered as ONE major leak; often it is the combination of this leak plus two or more major leaks (or a combination of several minor leaks into one).

  6. Hi Shi Fu I am looking for a new place and I chanced upon this unit whose door faces the mirrored lift door directly (please refer to the picture below). To be frank I have heard that such units will bring misfortune and ill luck for the person that resides there but I wanted to know if this is true. If it is indeed true, what are the ways that this can be counteracted?

  7. Dear Debrah, I remembered clearly when I was young and at that time, firecrackers were not banned in my country. Each Chinese New Year, my parents would purchase lots of fire crackers and fire works. I remembered clearly that without fail, two rows of fire crackers measuring around 15 feet were hung on each side of my home's bunglalow house. It was nice to hear the crackers go off and at the end of it, the entire compound including the badminton court was littered in red. Lovely sight. Fire crackers are meant to:- 1. Scare away " evil spirits ". 2. Red symbolises Good Luck. I guess, you can say that fire crackers are part of the " Culture " or practises rather than Feng S…

Dear Anon, It is best to look at Feng Shui in a holistic approach i.e. looking at "WEALTH" from various angles such as: 1. How good is the Shapes and Form of the home i.e. external environment, the site, the building and the home. 2. Using Compass School methods such as Flying Star and Eight House. 3. By simply focusing on a corner of the house and to assume that this corner "makes "or "breaks" our achievement of WEALTH is in my opinion, too naive a concept. In my opinion, it is more important to get more areas correct, or `score' more points or marks in all areas to make it a better home will provide more results. Furthermore, to say that a `wealth area' is at a specific…

In my opinion, from a Feng Shui point of view; the general consensus is that: 1. If the main entrance door is either neutral (pastel as in light colours) and another neutral colour is wood or wood tone or brown. 2. If your main door colours are of the above; then generally, it is no major issue. Also no issue are grilles that are : black + gold and silver or again light colours like cream orwhite or silver. 3. But if you door or grille have any of the primary colours: e.g. BRIGHT YELLOW, BRIGHT RED ORBLUE;then best to check out the Flying star chart numbers at that sector(main door). IN SUMMARY " From a Feng Shui perspective, a main entrance door in …

  10. These are some considerations: 1. Many Feng Shui concepts originated from (simply) pure common sense. 2. Frankly, it is best to put on one's thinking cap... as to Why? some say it is inauspicious? 3. The chief concern is not so much of what you wrote. 3.1. Do you know that if one were to speculate left, right, centre and until the cows come home; one will not get a correct answer (if any). 4. Let me share with you the following:- 4.1. The main concern of a bedroom door facing a step of stairs if the bedroom door is very close to these steps. Thus even if the bedroom door open inwards into the bedroom, but if the stairs are too close; one may fall down. That's …

Dear Anon, One `rule' under Feng Shui is that if you cannot see the poision, it is no longer a threat. For those who are new to this forum, here are some examples of how this concept is applied: 1. One reason why many FS practioners ask you to place a screen between the main door and (say if there is a straight backdoor) or a staircase is that if you cannot see the offending sha, it no longer becomes a threat. 2. If a poision arrow is aimed at your window, this is why one method is to use a thicker set of curtain to `block' off the poision arrow. I have seen the latest car net (sun screens) as those you mentioned. The driver who drives behind the car cannot really see ins…

Hi, I'm new here. My life has been very inauspicious ever since I moved into the back house of my parents after remodeling it in 2017. I lost both of my businesses, had a heath scare, mental breakdown, pet dog died by a dog bite that came to my home that I housed for the day and lost my life savings from trying to day trade. I feel depress and hopeless. I don't know what to do? I hung a bagua mirror when I moved into the home on the outside of my back screen door for protection but I wonder if it has brought more harm than good? I'm planning on taking it down and disposing it after the hungry ghost festival on Sept 2nd. Any advice to help turn my luck around and help pr…

Dear Rakesh, 1. This has usually more to do with symbolism or beliefs. 2. The belief is that if one has a ship painting, it should not be of a stormy weather where it may imply that the ship may be caught in a tidal wave or storm and sink. 3. In the above situation, it is not ideal symbolism to have a painting where the ship may sink and relate this to a company where.. the company may go under. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Con, Actually, the greater "value" of a good Feng Shui apartment lies in the common saying: "Location, location, location". In fact, this is often the most critical key success in selecting a home or an apartment. From a "cultural" perspective; as you had mentioned, in particular, Cantonese (dialect) group do not like 4. But often, they do not like multiples of it e.g. 44 or 444. Otherwise, 104 (without looking) at the house no, seems often not a major issue. More importantly, bring along family members to the new apartment and ask for their comments on the location. This often is better. I personally feel that these are better key success-factors, than s…

  19. Dear Anon, 1. This has more to do with beliefs than Feng Shui. 2. It would be a nice feeling for CEOs if they can symbolically be at one of the highest floors of a building especially if their company owns the entire building. 3. In some countries, well known politicians also have their offices close to the top floor. Some even have an escape hatch to a helicopter pad in the event of a terrorist attack. 4. Usually, nowadays the highest floors need not be an office but rather it could also be a restaurant or an auditorium. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Yes, in a global world, there are many practises in relating to "getting" rid of bad luck. Salt is used more widely in the west than the east or Far East. Although we use it to throw into used toilet when we get a re-sale home. So you are not wrong in coming down with using that practise of using salt. Here, in the Far East, our common way of "getting rid" of bad luck is also to get a bathe, first. And afterwards, (we already had prepared say a plastic basin/tub filled with local flowers and a few cut-up lime). So immediately after we had bathed (cleansed) ourselves, we would "flower bathe) by pouring this flower-lime-water onto our heads and let it flow …

Dear Sophia, The primary consideration in a kitchen is the placement of the stove. It should typically be oriented in a direction that is convenient for the spouse or the woman of the household. Regarding the kitchen sink, this is generally not a significant concern, and it is permissible for it to be positioned as you have indicated. Therefore, it is not essential to keep the toilet door closed even when it is not in use. You are correct in stating that excessive partitions or screens should be avoided in the home. Improperly placed partitions can disrupt the flow of the home, akin to a knife cutting through its various areas. For resident…

I have two issues now: 1. how is the period 9 going to affect this house? 2. I'm a Xun Metal monkey (female, born in 1980). The main door is on TIger mountain, so a direct clash. What do I do to make this house a harmounious Parent String Formation fo…
