Seek General Advice from Master Cecil Lee

  1. Dear Carol, The correct method is the head should be facing the good direction. For example in your case, if North is auspicious. you should have your head facing North. Dear Carol, So far, Feng Shui has not come to the dogs yet. In the olden days, priority of Feng Shui goes to searching a site for a community e.g. a large city. This would also apply to a site or a building or a home. Therefore, in the past the emphasis of Feng Shui is not like what we are doing, looking for `cures'. As for pet dogs, there is currently no mention of this anywhere on the best place to place them in cages. I guess dogs used to roam around and the Chinese (unfortunately) enjoy eating them. (I hope this statement is not offensive or replusive, as I do not mean any harm. If so, I sincerely apologise as I am stating the fact of life that some Chinese people do …

Dear Nansi, This is based on the Grand Duke Theory where for this year, one should not offend the Grand Duke of Jupiter by not doing renovation at the East direction. The Grand Duke or Tai Su `will' be offended if one e.g. digs earth or do renovations at this direction as it will disturb him. Unfortunately, the effects can be `long lasting' as it may extend to a few years. So far, frankly, this is the warning but no acceptable cures are available. As mentioned earlier, for some Chinese, they may consider `praying' for forgiveness to the Tai Su or Grand Duke of Jupiter. Other than this, I really do not know what to do also. Because, many who are aware of this, remember abo…

Moderator's Note: The reply to this is under " More Grand Duke Questions" Hi. I see there's questions about construction in the East. My question is: Would there be any ill effects from tearing out flower beds in the W and SW, and building a raised bed in the NE this year? The earth *would* be disturbed by putting in rebar to hold the timbers down in the NE and taking out rebar in the W and SW. If there is the possibility of ill effects, it would definitely be worth waiting until next year. Your input is very much appreciated. Thanks, julie

Dear Eve, Traditional Feng Shui did not mention anything about the fridge as it was not invented yet. However, the number of fridge is not important as it does not provide warmth and effectively is `self-contained' box. Unlike the stove which is considered the `heart' of the kitchen, frige or a number of them are not that crucial. The only thing crucial here is that it must not be next to a `fire' element or if so, provide at least 6 inches or 130 cm distance. Dear Toni, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Friday, April 09, 1999 2:32 PM Subject: Re: stove next to fridge?? Since the stove is in the south, this is acceptable because at the south position, the stove is able to `retain' the heat as it is at it's most comfortable location i.e. South. Normally, if the stove is at the South position, you can have the stove face a water element e.g. a frige. This is because a stove at the south can still be `cooled' down by the water element opposite it. Contrast this if you place a stove e.g. in the North sector. Here, you must not let th…

Dear Nansi, The key to understanding this is based on the following:- Grand Duke does not like to be:- 1. Disturbed. Here one should not do construction work at the location. This includes repairs and renovations. 2. Touched. Here, this would imply that painting is consider `touching' him. So, based on the second point, please don't paint the walls on the East. Dear Elizabeth, As a guideline:- 1. The aquarium, most not be placed at the centre-point of the house. 2. Preferable that it should not be placed in the dining room. As you mentioned, it is acceptable to place the aquarium in the family room and on the `surface' it looks a sensible location to be placed. Where possible, if your house has an `L' shape configuration, symbolically, or through use of partition to `change' it to a square or rectangle shaped. This configuration is still the best. Dear Garance, There are three Feng Shui emporiums in "The Feng Shui Awards" Page. If you have the time, check out these emporiums. I have a link at this URL: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/award.htm I am sure, you can find your Luo Pan. I am not mistaken, in the above award page, check out " Roger Green's" site, in the past, I remember him selling an English version but I remembered it was quite expensive at $4xx.00USD (Cannot really remember this). Alternatively, you can buy a Plastic Feng Shui kit by Kwok Man Ho, I have a link in the books section i.e. http://www.geomancy.net/books/fs.htm Another alternative is to get the book Feng Shui by Derek Walters. 14. Dear Jody, I feel that currently, because of the small size of the tree, it will not pose too much of a `threat' to the house. At this stage of growth (of the tree), you may seriously want to consider, replanting it away from your main entrance area as it will one day bound to grow bigger. Although it is not a `threat' today, but it will be one day. When it grows taller, and if you do not decide to re-plant it, then I suggest, you may have to consider a `cure'. For example, placing a semi-circular carpet at the main entrance door area radiating outwards. Dear Emma, Hope you can further elaborate. Are you referring to the number 2 after doing a Flying Star chart and you have a 2 influence at a specific location. Or are you referring to your address 2110. This is because " house numbering " method to see if a house is auspicious or inauspicious is not a good method of checking a house's birth chart. This is because, today, many Professional Feng Shui Masters use the Flying Star Analysis to find out e.g. the 2 or 5 bad stars are and if they had combined together in a location. Here, the difference, we cannot just look at the house number and come to some `conclusion'. But rather, combine the two schools of Feng Shui e.g. Sha…

Dear Betty, The most important thing to remember is not to place a wall clock above a door. Preferably, it should be placed at a location of activity e.g. close to the Television set or Hi Fi. (it can be above it). Another thing to note is that a grandfather clock is a better `subsitute' for a windchime. A few days ago, I tried counting my neighour's bungalow house. I counted at least nine different types of windchimes outside the west `wing' of the house (or the back door area). It so happens that this is also the WEST side of the house or the YIN side. Most likely, the lady who stayed there became insane because of the windchime. Personally, I would like to help but the…

Hi, House numbers belong to another category called Numerlogy. Frankly, the reason why in my opinion, I prefer to stick to Feng Shui is because in many places, numbers can mean different things. For example, the Cantonese (a dialect) group of Chinese say that no. 4 means = die. This is because in their dialect, the pronuciation of 4 is `say' or `die'. To them, they thus find the number inauspicious. While to them no. 8 mean `fart' or `prosperity'. Where else, in `English' astrology, they have the Four elements and some practioners find number 4 to be auspicious. Under the Flying Star Theory of Feng Shui, the worst numbers to avoid are like what you mention no. 2 or the s…

Dear Anita, Thanks for bring up this interesting question. We will first begin by looking at the `history' of Feng Shui in China. In the past, Chinese were mostly into agricuture (farmers ) and live-stock rearing. What this means is that food was obtain from the land. Eaten, and left overs were `re-cycled' e.g. as some of them they rear pigs, these "garbage" were given to the pigs to be eaten. Manure or other `solid' wastes were used to fertilise the land. From the above, you will notice that they (ancient Chinese) do not have what we have now... " garbage " in the form of non-biodegradable products etc..... Overall, Feng Shui is used to assess: in the above case of a hom…

  21. Started by Kieron,

Dear Kieron, Under Feng Shui, the most `vulnerable' area for poison arrows are: 1. the main entrance door. 2. the view from windows inside the house. The concept of `poison arrows' is that if you cannot see the poison arrow, there is no longer a threat. For a dying tree between your home and your neighbours, it is no `threat' unless: 1. it can be viewed from a window of a house and when it fulfil para 2 below. 2. when the tree disintegrates into a `tree stump'. When you only have a `broken' tree stump, this now becomes a `sha' provided when you peer through the window, it is tangent or perpedicular to it. In the long run, it is best to totally uproot the tree incase of de…

  22. Dear Cecil, Thank you so much for taking time to reply my queries. We have considered your suggestion of shifting the bed to opposite side of the room. This may be too costly for us at the moment since on the opposite side of the room we have some fixed (built-in) wardrobe and shelves, if you have noticed from my drawing. We would have to hire carpenters to rebuild these wardrobes if we were to shift them because they were initially built with the intention of covering the unsightly almost-one-foot beam on whole stretch of this wall. In my previous e-mail, I mentioned the possibility of shifting the bed to the wall adjacent to the toilet wall, the other only available wal…

Dear Kieron, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, glad that you will continue to trust your intuition. Believe me, it is more powerful sometimes than following all sorts of books and we may end up worse or feel "depressed" having to follow a `set' of routines. Look at it this way, many people have never heard of Feng Shui but benefitted from their own instincts or `six sense' or `intuition.' Based on the available information you have provided me, yes, it is acceptable to place a fishtank and a small water fountain on the left side of the main entrance. From what I can understand, I hope that the fishtank is not overall huge or large. A small water fountain is acceptable. This is because too much water can cause an imbalance of yin/yang i.e. too much water becomes too `yin' and as West (metal) is also a yi…
