Thanks for bring this up. I guess it is the use of English. To clarify, you should first find the centre of the house. An example is shown at http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm. Next, you should use an ordinary compass and stand at the centre of the house. The direction, the main door faces is the direction of the door. Don't get me wrong, one advantage of living at high floors above such a structure may often mean that the views are unblocked.
