You wrote: Question 1: How will the feng shui be affected if I enclose the whole area with a security grille like the one in the photo I attached? There are two schools of Feng Shui: 1. Shapes and Forms. From your sketch, via a top-down view or helicopter view; the outline still looks rectangular. 2. Compass School Feng Shui : Flying Star One should still consider the enclosed living quarters when plotting a flying star chart. And often it is easier to focus specifically on the living quarters (excluding the outdoors). But Flying Star chart can be extended and used to look at any features that some may want to add e.g. in the new outdoor area. For example, some are eyei…

Dear Ang, If one is using the Eight House theory, you should also consider what is the intangible force at the bedroom location. If the bedroom is an auspcious location, at least, this can in some ways `compensate' to a certain extend the death or disaster falling at the main entrance. If the death or disaster is at the main entrance, this implies that the house is not considered suitable for you. In general, you should not let the door open all the time. Only when you need to use the door, then you open it else, preferrably it should be closed. Do keep the location bright e.g. using neutral wall colours like `white'. These are the two things which you could do. Otherwise…

In my opinion, often the "fear" is the reverse. Most good bank practises avoid being e.g. directly below an apartment building. In fact, if the bank does have safe boxes; there were instances in the past where the alarms were set off; until it became too much of a false alarm until during the weekend; someone tunnelled from the top floor into the safe vault of the bank branch. Equally possible for a bank with commercial building above. Otherwise, tell me, what is so negative about it? Unless it is a restaurant ... which is worse?

Dear Anon, There is quite a diverse group of users in this forum and not all are of Chinese `origin'. It is quite common for Westerners especially those celebrating Christmas to hang a " bouquet " or a round Christmas decoration on their door. In my opinion, it is very difficult to say whether this practise is `good' `bad' or neutral. What is more important is trying to understand what each Feng Shui / Divinity (Pillars of Destiny) can help us and apply them. We should then classify such objects as of `secondary' importance. The only thing I personally feel is that where possible try not to hang `dried' plants or flowers on the door. This is because it usally turns brown…

Hi, The Traditional understanding is that only when one uses the `entire' formation of the Eight Trigrams based on Fu Xi or The First Heaven sequence Trigram than can it be said to be `activated'. For example, the Tai or Peace symbol used by Geomancy-u.com cannot be said to be `activated' as it does not represent a formation i.e. Heaven to Thunder etc... where the entire First Heaven Sequence Trigram also represents a Family unit. Reference: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm We may activate the Earth element i.e. the Five Star by painting e.g. the room yellow representing the Earth element. It is still acceptable to paint the backdoor blue but this is best avoided. Sym…

Dear Monique, 1. It is always good to begin a home audit by doing observations to locate any Sha Qi or poison arrows, first. 1.1. Some important things to note include, any `threats' to the maindoor, through any of the windows 1.2. location of the toilets, 1.3. whether Qi enters the house and exits immediately (straight path - bad) Besides the above, do a full Shapes and Form audit of each of your rooms (where possible) looking at the position of the bedrooms etc.. (There are many traditional books on Shapes and Form or read the resources under: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/site.htm ) 2. Most of the time, if the above is done and if the house has relatively (few problems) …

1. In theory, some Feng Shui practitioners automatically find that anything out of the ordinary is no good. 2. In my opinion, as the slanted ceiling is unlike a concentrated beam, should just leave it as it is. 3. A concentrated beam is no good as there is suppose to be a higher compression below it. While the slanted ceiling is totally flat much like a double decker bed which has a large flat surface. 4. Furthermore a higher ceiling improves air circulation or aids better dispersion of heat more efficiently. 5. For me, I would not be too concerned with it.

Dear Anon, I believe, Patalying Jaya refers to the area near or around Kualau Lumpur (the Capital of Malaysia). Malaysia's Cyber Hub is located around this location. Perhaps, this is why you may have heard of it. I am not sure if the spelling is correct or my description exact. But overall you can consider it as a location within Kualau Lumpur. Personally, there is not much significance in the area as compared to Penang, also a `district' of Malaysia where predominantly Chinese stay. You can treat Kualau Lumpur or Penang as equvalent of the definition such as Texas, New York in USA. But these locations are much smaller. If you are staying in Malaysia, perhaps can provide…

Dear Anon, It depends on the distance between your main entrance vs your neighbour's (partial) wall. Often, 3 metres distance away is acceptable. Usually, it is best not to be too close because sometimes, the corner of the wall is like a poison arrow aimed towards your main entrance door. And secondly, it is often not too good because qi (air) flow is not smooth. What could be worse are the new generation Punggol flats. Some of these are corner units and the corridor wall is aimed directly into the homes. Depending on the situation, sometimes, potted plants can soften this effect. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cindy, 1. In my opinion, unless one does a reno to relocate the bedroom door, there is not much one can do unless the bedroom door is closed when not in use. 2. The rationale is because, it is not feasible to place a partition or screen between the bedroom door and the staircase. 3. An alternative is to place a screen or e.g. a 4 drawer linen cabinet between the door and the bedroom. 4. Before doing anything drastic above; in my opinion, I find a bedroom door facing the stairs - not a `big' issue i.e there is relatively not much - if any impact on those living in the bedroom. So far, I have not come across much problems with regards to this issue for most people. 5.…

1. Usually, in Asian society, often, we should (unfortunately) respect the advice of our elders. Thus, if your elders or either side of the family (husband or spouse) elders say so; as a mark of respect, try to give them due respect. 2. Actually, every lunar month has it's good and bad days. And even in a 7th month; there are both good and bad days. A wider interpretation to some is that as the 15th lunar day of the 7th month had just passed by; to some this is interpreted as the "end" of the 7th month. 3. The date you had chosen is phonetically auspicious sounding: 9 9 09. But this does not matter to the elders.. as to them... it is still considered the 7th month so lo…

Dear Anon, Generally, Chinese calligraphy usually either have auspicious words or phonetically auspicious words or words of wisdom. It is acceptable to place these calligraphy facing the bedroom door or on the hallway leading to the room. More commonly it is placed in the living room or on a wall, leading to the home from the entrance area. This is a belief that beneifical Qi can be `enhanced' when it comes into the home. (This is not Feng Shui but Chinese belief of some people). Under Chinese beliefs, plus in my opinion, one should not place the calligraphy facing the toilet door. Especially if the toilet bowl is visible. For the kitchen, it is uncommon to place it there…

These are some considerations: 1. In general, kitchen is located at NW = "Fire at Heaven's gate". One way to reduce the incidence is to introduce "earth and water" in the kitchen. 1.1. Try to check where is the true cardinal point of NW. And closest to this area, can introduce : pottery / glass-ware or any thing that is made from earth e.g. mugs in cabinets, near to this area. And another method is to introduce e.g. 2 x 1.5 clear water containers e.g. on the table top especially if the stove is at NW.

Dear Master Cecil, As I was going through the FLYING STAR CHART for my home where I had done the comparing chart between PERIOD 7 HOME under period 8 vs PERIOD 8 HOME under period 8.Obviously there were a few things which I feel to need to cross check and determine whether it is best to "transform" my home into PERIOD 8.Anyway, my home faces WEST 2 (270). FIRSTLY, NOTICE THAT MOST OF THE HOUSE BEDROOM SECTOR REPRESENT AUSPICIOUS COMBINATION IF REMAIN UNDER PERIOD 7 HOME.WHERE ESLE,IF PERIOD 8 NOTED STAR #5 #2 AND # 7 ARE THERE. SECONDLY,THE MAIN DOOR AREA AND CENTRE AREA UNDER PERIOD 8 HOME CONSIST AUSPICIOUS COMBINATION ESPECIALLY DOUBLE STAR # 8 ON THE MAIN DOOR AREA. T…

1. This link has some resources on the placement of the kitchen stove:-http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Kitchen_Stove_%26_More Uma S. wrote: any remedy if i have no other go but cook facing south pl advice on my e mail 2. Usually the most sensible thing is to check the layout of the kitchen to see if it is posible or feasible for it to face another direction. Otherwise, this is a "physical" thing and hardly any remedy for it.

Dear Anon, 1. Under one aspect of house suitability using Ba Zi Feng Shui; if the house is considered a " Wood house " by virtue that the main entrance is facing say East or South East. And one member (especially the breadwinner) is a Strong Earth person; in this situation: 2. Under the Five Elements Concept: 2.1 A `WOOD' HOUSE vs `STRONG' EARTH PERSON Good Match. The wood house is considered favourable as it helps to "control" or help (aid) a Strong Earth person. 2.2 A `WOOD' HOUSE vs `WEAK' EARTH PERSON Inauspicious. As wood will further weaken a Weak Earth Person. 3. The above is one of the many aspects we look at the relationship between Ba Zi (Pillars of Destiny usin…

Dear Chris, Thanks for your very interesting question. As a guide, usually our surroundings is `governed' by Feng Shui analysis using the Shapes and Form School. Here, Shapes and Form is used at the Environment Scanning ie. the Landscape, the Site and the Home. We can loosely term the above as Macro Feng Shui. It is important in the above to locate the dragon (yang) embracing the tiger (yin) or we consider this a gentle embrace. In addition, in the macro level, there should preferably be a solid backing (tortise) and clear space - infront (phoenix). In Macro Feng Shui, we also analyse the enviroment in relation to the Five Elements concept. Here, if there are lots of `woo…

Dear Aloysius, This is not the first choice location is still acceptable provided it is "shielded" from the sun and rain. The altar should be placed with a solid backing. As to whether it is to be placed on the right side or left side of the balcony, so long as immediately facing the altar - we do not see any "ugly" objects e.g. drying of clothes or shoe cabinet. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Aloysius Chia wrote: Is it a good location to have your Altar place at the rectangle balcony on a 10th floor HDB flat, especially on theright side of the balcony wall.
