Dear Betty, Under the Eight Aspirations or Life Associations where each trigram is associated with an aspect of life. Here are the significance of each trigram and their direction: North - Career South - Fame East - Health West - Children North East - Education North West - Helfpul patrons South East - Wealth South West - Romance / Marriage Therefore, to answer your question, Health is neither at West or North but at the East. The above is based on the Later (last) Heaven Sequence. 1. We cannot `compare' this theory with the Shapes and Form School where the Shapes and Form can be applied to every location. The Eight Aspirations is considered too general to be applied to e…

Dear Cecil, I thank you for your quick response. I did take note of your 2 sets of illustrations and the frontage of the lot and did understand that acceptable does not mean favorable. I was relieved when I tumbled to your website and to see the illustrations in your Chapter 10 - that narrower front/wider back w/ front house facing narrow front is not categorized as unfavorable like the one book I read. That book does make the distinction. It presents such a lot as unfavorable but it does draw a house sitting right along the narrow front ie. along the street. Would you please explain a little more on this frontage relation to the trapezoid (item 6.4 above of your reply) …

Dear Anon, I would like to seek clarification from you. I cannot recall having mentioned to keep the stove in NE or SW. Is it that you had read from somewhere? From what I can understand is that NE is the devil's gate while SW is considered the devil's backdoor. In this modern times, it is my opinion that although the stove is still important, there are more important issues to be addressed under Feng Shui. In other words, in light of the many other theories to look at and because houses are quite `compact' especially in the Far East, such as in Singapore and Hong Kong where mostly these are apartments of around 1,400 sq feet ( plus / minus ). In applied Feng Shui, it is …

Dear Michael, Since you mentioned that almost the entire house has overhead beams; it is thus impractical to place `cures' at all beams, in your situation, you can:- 1. Above the bed location, use 6 ancient Chinese coins tied to a beam. Here, the 6 coins can be used on only one beam to symbollically cover 3 beams. Therefore, you do not need to place 6 ancient Chinese coins at every beam but one immediately above the bed. 2. Using the above guideline, you can place 6 coins at certain locations that you or your family frequent. For example if the sofa set happens to be directly below a beam, than place one set of 6 coins. 3. Where possible confine placing the coins only e.…

Dear Wendy, 1. In my opinion, for an office environment - it is common to find certain offices or sitting positions with a glass wall behind it. 2. Where possible, in such situations, have a back personal "side-table" along the glass panel. This is symbolic of a mountain effect. And makes the ratio of nearly 33.3 percent or more - with shelves and the upper half glass panels. It would thus qualify as a mountain support in such a situation. 3. Usually, many offices will try to maximise document space with such side or back shelving. 4. If the above is not possible, then curtain blinds either horizontal type or vertical type is still acceptable as a symbolic screen. 5. In …

Dear Sophia, Please see below:- It is the belief that if one displays decorative objects (note: call them whatever one wants "wealth vase ...." etc... But really, these are only objects made by ordinary man! One of the beliefs is that if one keeps such objects, it is best always to cover the top and not let the vase be "empty". Some would place another smaller covered container to cover this "mouth" of the vase, while others could simply cover it fully with a cut-out cardboard, styrofoam etc.... In Singapore, we read of magic "stones" that can cure cancer etc... This is where such people prey older folks -- into parting with their savings! Therefore, all of us s…

Dear Anon, Usually, your office would have installed blinds. Simply draw the blinds and this is good enough : " if one cannot see it it no longer becomes a threat. As for the sharp corner of the pillar:- 1. from your illustration, it does not seem that the front pillar slices into the person. So should not be an issue. 2. furthermore, for a sharp corner in an office, usually after approximately 1 metre distance away from it, the sha qi is pretty weak. Even the two sha qi at the back of you should not be an issue. In addition, if one has a high chair, the two sha qi at the back is a non-issue. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: Hi, My husband and I are staying in a flat where our main door is directly facing the kitchen door. I know that it is not auspicious. It's not possible for us to shift to another flat, is there any remedy for this? Is there space available between the main door and the kichen door? If yes, then you can try to put some partition to prevent the kichen door from being seen directly. This is the best possible solution if any. Hope that helps. Dear Mieke van der Wijngaart-van Dongen, In your case, whether there isn't much of a choice available to choose from. Then I would East would probably be the better choice. I mean at least directly behind is the sink rather than the toilet bowl itself. This is at least better than having a toilet bowl sharing the same wall as your bed. Furthermore, since it is your own toilet, you will be able to keep it clean, control keeping the toilet bowl cover down and keep the toilet door close when not in use. Often a home toilet will not be as dirty as a public toilet. The reason why toilet is considered least auspicious is often it is would be considered the most dirty place i…

Dear Marisol, Indeed, when performing Flying Star calculations, it is advisable to utilize the expansive terrace that offers a pleasant view as the front of the residence. This is because Flying Star Feng Shui is primarily concerned with the movement of qi into the home. Furthermore, this orientation appears to possess yang qi. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Marisol Colon wrote: I have a huge terrace that overlooks a huge amount of mountains and I can see the sea from 3 directions. I was wondering if I would use this as my front door?

Dear Anon, Frankly, this has more to do with superstitious belief than Feng Shui. In my honest opinion, I have not heard of having two or more double happiness symbol equates to more than one marriage. Hmm.. anyone care to try and say... provide us feedback in six months, a year time? *JOKE* Seriously, I am not sure that a symbol can have such a significant impact. Maybe I am wrong. Lets wait for a feedback. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi, No, it is not necessary for the kitchen door to face a window. What is more important considerations are: 1. The water position in relation to the stove and other fire elements. 2. The stove must not be `supported' by a window. 3. Positions like the Kitchen in the South, you can have the Stove face a water element to `cool' down the kitchen. As South = Fire element. Contrast this with having a Kitchen at the North. Here, you must try to `keep warm' the stove and not let it `die out' with a water position opposite it. 4. Avoid having the water pipe "criss-cross" the stove (e.g. in the built in cabinet below it). 5. Avoid a ceiling beam above the stove. The above are im…

Dear Anon, It is still acceptable for the kitchen to face the bedroom door. The reason it may be considered inauspicious is that the kitchen do have utensils and metal objects such as forks, knifes etc... If one can manage to keep this properly and not in full view of the bedroom/bedroom door this is acceptable. Some Professional FS Masters even consider items such as a fork, which they consider `poision arrows'. If all these items are properly kept in cabinets or drawers, there should not be a problem. Dear Anon, Thanks for this interesting question: 1. I remembered reading quite sometime back one of Evelyn Lip's book on Geomancy (Feng Shui). (By the way, for those who are not aware, Evelyn Lip is an English author of several Feng Shui and Chinese cultural books. She is a trained architect and has a PHD. Her books are considered academically correct and is useful for those who do research for their school projects.) In the above book, she mentioned that when she was a young architect, she had a `culture shock' when she was asked to design a house. After the architectural plan was submitted to the house owner; she was asked to alter the design for the owner. During this…

Can anyone tell me if there's any book or directory with list of chinese characters and the number of strokes? In the chinese name analysis, we use the traditional name stroke rather than the simplified name stroke. The reference of name stroke is available as a reference in some of the chinese name books.Different chinese name books will give you different reference chart. Dear Anon, Frankly, there are many interpretations of kitchen in the "wrong" sector. Under Traditional Feng Shui, the major concern is the Kitchen and in particularly the stove at NW sector. NW is suppose to be the Heaven's gate. And under Traditional Feng Shui, it also reflects the head of the household. And when a stove is located at NW, then it is commonly called "fire-at-heaven's" gate. However, some modern Feng Shui practitioners call the SW sector the romance sector. I believe, this is what you are concerned with. As for SW = romance sector, this is usually not a key issue under Traditional Feng Shui practitioners. As mentioned, this is considered more of a "mode…

Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, in the West, it is more common for Feng Shui practitioners to advice their clients to place Ba Gua mirror to counter-act Sha Qi. 2. In the East, or Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Far East, Feng Shui practitioners either advise on: 2.1. For many Feng Shui practitioners who have a religious background e.g. Toaism or Buddhism, would often advice their clients to place a Ba Gua mirror for `protection' on their door or many doors. Here, they even ask their clients to place certain `charms' above the doors. The charms are usually written on yellow paper and with red wordings or drawings. Alternatively, many use a Ba Gua with the twin picture of the two d…
