General Help

Seek General Advice from Master Cecil Lee

  1. Dear Anon, Here, there are several view-points: 1. Some Feng Shui practioners will `insist' that one should use an immovable object rather than a picture. 2. Some Feng Shui practioners will advise you that one can hang pictures but watch what you hang. Under para 2, the advise is to hang a picture of a mountain scene. Excellent examples are: a picture of Mount Fuji in Japan or the Himalayas. Scenes such as this. Where best, avoid pictures of water scenes such as fountain, fishes swimming. Other alternatives are calligraphy works or pictures of Chinese paintings with a backdrop of a mountain / village scene are acceptable. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Shared wealth 1. Traditionally, Feng Shui is used at a macro level. This is where, locations of cities were found and where possible, it can become a vibrant and prosperous city. Of course there are some not so lucky people but generally, people of that city are overall "healthy and wealthy". 2. In the same light, today, plots of land are looked at in terms of the dragon vein and the harmony between the tiger and dragon. 3. It reasons that, collectively, the residents and neigbhours can enjoy prosperity. If a site is auspicious or good, the `goodness' of the surrounding can add further `goodness' to your home. This is a WIN-WIN situation. 4. For example, in one of the mes…

  3. 1. Feng Shui is a holistic approach and depends on two major concepts:- 1.1 Shapes and Forms Feng Shui 1.2 Compass School Feng Shui 2. In my opinion, you have barely scratched the surface; as you have just looked only at the Eight house concept which is by itself is not complete as this theory and concept belongs to one-half of the Compass School Feng Shui. 3. It is akin to someone visiting a general practitioner and the practitioner felt that the patient's breast has a lump. 4. I am sure the doctor would not automatically jump to the wrong conclusion. 5. I am also sure that the doctor would require this patient to further tests. 6. It is the same as what you had…

  4. Dear Anon, In my opinion, graphic illustrations are `flat objects'. On a Personal Computer, it lies `flat' on a person's screen. Contrast this with a physical object e.g. such as the corner of a table. The corner of a table is considered a poision arrow. Therefore, unless it is a three dimension object that points directly towards a person, I sincerely believe that the graphic illustrations do not have an impact on a person. Hi, This is a good question. In general, some of the ancient practises may not be applicable to certain countries or location. In China, e.g. in Beijing the Chinese usually have the main doors at the South cardinal point. The problem with having windows or doors at the North is because either of the cold winds from the North or the `yellow' dust at the North. We can understand that such situations do not apply to many people in the world. In our present situation, ideally, if you are living in a landed property, to safeguard your home, you should have a backdoor but with good set of locks or even an alarm sensor at the back of the house. More importantly, you should apply…

Dear Anon, It is still acceptable for the kitchen to face the bedroom door. The reason it may be considered inauspicious is that the kitchen do have utensils and metal objects such as forks, knifes etc... If one can manage to keep this properly and not in full view of the bedroom/bedroom door this is acceptable. Some Professional FS Masters even consider items such as a fork, which they consider `poision arrows'. If all these items are properly kept in cabinets or drawers, there should not be a problem. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, I would like to seek clarification from you. I cannot recall having mentioned to keep the stove in NE or SW. Is it that you had read from somewhere? From what I can understand is that NE is the devil's gate while SW is considered the devil's backdoor. In this modern times, it is my opinion that although the stove is still important, there are more important issues to be addressed under Feng Shui. In other words, in light of the many other theories to look at and because houses are quite `compact' especially in the Far East, such as in Singapore and Hong Kong where mostly these are apartments of around 1,400 sq feet ( plus / minus ). In applied Feng Shui, it is …

  9. Dear Kate, If your business is experiencing financial difficulties and is situated in an office rather than your home, the Feng Shui of the home will typically have a reduced impact on the office. In such cases, it is recommended to conduct an office audit. Regarding the sloping ceiling: 1. The higher the slope, the less auspicious it is considered to be. 2. One option for those sleeping under a sloping roof is to use a poster bed, although this may be more expensive. Alternatively, cloth material can be placed to act as a barrier against the sloping ceiling. In addition to the above, the principle of 'If you do not see it, it no longer becomes a cure' appl…

Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: Hi, My husband and I are staying in a flat where our main door is directly facing the kitchen door. I know that it is not auspicious. It's not possible for us to shift to another flat, is there any remedy for this? Is there space available between the main door and the kichen door? If yes, then you can try to put some partition to prevent the kichen door from being seen directly. This is the best possible solution if any. Hope that helps. 11. Started by Wendy Pang,

Dear Wendy, 1. In my opinion, for an office environment - it is common to find certain offices or sitting positions with a glass wall behind it. 2. Where possible, in such situations, have a back personal "side-table" along the glass panel. This is symbolic of a mountain effect. And makes the ratio of nearly 33.3 percent or more - with shelves and the upper half glass panels. It would thus qualify as a mountain support in such a situation. 3. Usually, many offices will try to maximise document space with such side or back shelving. 4. If the above is not possible, then curtain blinds either horizontal type or vertical type is still acceptable as a symbolic screen. 5. In …

Dear Sophia, Please see below:- It is the belief that if one displays decorative objects (note: call them whatever one wants "wealth vase ...." etc... But really, these are only objects made by ordinary man! One of the beliefs is that if one keeps such objects, it is best always to cover the top and not let the vase be "empty". Some would place another smaller covered container to cover this "mouth" of the vase, while others could simply cover it fully with a cut-out cardboard, styrofoam etc.... In Singapore, we read of magic "stones" that can cure cancer etc... This is where such people prey older folks -- into parting with their savings! Therefore, all of us s…

  14. Dear Mieke van der Wijngaart-van Dongen, In your case, whether there isn't much of a choice available to choose from. Then I would East would probably be the better choice. I mean at least directly behind is the sink rather than the toilet bowl itself. This is at least better than having a toilet bowl sharing the same wall as your bed. Furthermore, since it is your own toilet, you will be able to keep it clean, control keeping the toilet bowl cover down and keep the toilet door close when not in use. Often a home toilet will not be as dirty as a public toilet. The reason why toilet is considered least auspicious is often it is would be considered the most dirty place i…

Hi, No, it is not necessary for the kitchen door to face a window. What is more important considerations are: 1. The water position in relation to the stove and other fire elements. 2. The stove must not be `supported' by a window. 3. Positions like the Kitchen in the South, you can have the Stove face a water element to `cool' down the kitchen. As South = Fire element. Contrast this with having a Kitchen at the North. Here, you must try to `keep warm' the stove and not let it `die out' with a water position opposite it. 4. Avoid having the water pipe "criss-cross" the stove (e.g. in the built in cabinet below it). 5. Avoid a ceiling beam above the stove. The above are im…

Mtiger side of the house is higher than the dragon side. What are the possible conseqence of such a case, and what are the remedies to correct this. Thank you very much As you are aware, you are asking a question based on the exterior of your home: Can you physically change or control the exterior? Yes/No? Well, you think about it....

Dear Marisol, Indeed, when performing Flying Star calculations, it is advisable to utilize the expansive terrace that offers a pleasant view as the front of the residence. This is because Flying Star Feng Shui is primarily concerned with the movement of qi into the home. Furthermore, this orientation appears to possess yang qi. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote: Marisol Colon wrote: I have a huge terrace that overlooks a huge amount of mountains and I can see the sea from 3 directions. I was wondering if I would use this as my front door?

  20. Dear Anon, Frankly, this has more to do with superstitious belief than Feng Shui. In my honest opinion, I have not heard of having two or more double happiness symbol equates to more than one marriage. Hmm.. anyone care to try and say... provide us feedback in six months, a year time? *JOKE* Seriously, I am not sure that a symbol can have such a significant impact. Maybe I am wrong. Lets wait for a feedback. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  21. Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, in the West, it is more common for Feng Shui practitioners to advice their clients to place Ba Gua mirror to counter-act Sha Qi. 2. In the East, or Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Far East, Feng Shui practitioners either advise on: 2.1. For many Feng Shui practitioners who have a religious background e.g. Toaism or Buddhism, would often advice their clients to place a Ba Gua mirror for `protection' on their door or many doors. Here, they even ask their clients to place certain `charms' above the doors. The charms are usually written on yellow paper and with red wordings or drawings. Alternatively, many use a Ba Gua with the twin picture of the two d…

Just an update on what's happening... Hope nobody minds my sharing again. My dad now sleeps in the extra room which I fixed up especially for him. His insomnia is gone and he's more energetic now (he was dancing this morning and he even gave me a big loving hug which really surprised me). Before, he used to hold grudges, and all day long he'd always think of negative thoughts. He'd usually be depressed and would always seem so tired and would want to sleep, leaving work unfinished and unattended. Now he says he feels so light, and when I took a peek at him a while ago, he was actually working on the papers of the property he left unfinished for ages. As for me, this mo…

Dear Anon, We live in a real world and if we like in a studio apartment, we should not worry unduly about its effect on Feng Shui. You can still apply Feng Shui concepts: 1. Ideally, if the entire studio apartment is one open area, we can artificially provide sections e.g. between the kitchen and say the living room or the bedroom, have a `partition' such as an eating counter etc.. 2. For the living room, or bedroom, leave a `gap' or a short distance between say the bed and the other `rooms'. 3. It is not compulsory but some actual examples also include the using carpets to have an outline between one area e.g. the living room and other areas. (This is not compulsory) bu…
