    1. The scientic method is to use the Eight House (Ba Cai) or Eight Mansions to determine the best bed-head directions for your children. 2. What you had mentioned, has more to do with "commonsense" Feng Shui or commonly known as "Commonsense approach to Feng Shui". 3. Here, commonsense prevails. For example, often the Chinese don't want to place a bed-head or a bed close to a window for one or more of the following reasons:- 3.1 "Safety concerns" Imagine, living a ground floor unit or the bedroom is along a common housing board corridor. And if the window(s) are open, and if there is an inconsiderate or cruel passerby, they may even throw in a lighted cigarette butt …

  2. Dear Wendy, Please see below:- Yes, in Feng Shui, it is considered inauspcious to have the entrance open into stair cases. Here, the rationale is because, beneficial Qi that is suppose to come into the house, will be affected by e.g. the vortex of unsmooth flow e.g. such as the steps of the stairs. In your second question, it is more of "commonsense approach". Not so much of Feng Shui. For example, one worry is that when one walks out of the bedroom, although it may be highly unlikely, e.g. guests may not be aware and walk further and `fall' down. This may seem highly unlikely, but it may happen not in every home but it may just happen. What is more important is w…

Dear Anon, In my opinion, the question asked, may have more dimensions than what you had mentioned, below. For example, other major considerations like: 1. Is the stove facing a good direction (often should face a good direction suitable to the woman "head" of the home.) 2. Best to avoid placing the stove directly at the NW compass direction. This is known as "fire at heaven's gate" - considered by many FS practitioners as a very inauspicious location. For the stove as well as an oven or even a toaster oven, here. 3. If the kitchen is located at the South (fire element) compass direction of a home; it is OK to have the stove facing a water position. But if the kitche…

Frankly, if you are not sure, best to "invest" in or search for a Geomancer that provides Can or Cannot buy service or services for a home. Usually, if you are very interested in a home; and if you engage a geomancer to advice on "Can or cannot buy"; on that visit; the geomancer will advice on the home and if the home has issues; will advise you further and often, you will get to understand what to look out for (later) on your next house hunting. Hope you understand that a one line statement that you had made below:- sounds so simple.... Dear Anon, Closing the lid of the toilet sit is secondary to Feng Shui. Here, the chief consideration is to try to locate imbalances e.g. using the Flying Star analysis for the house. If there is an imbalance, we need to `fix' it. As for closing the lid of the toilet, in my opinion, it is better to simply close the toilet door. If so, one do not need to close the lid of the toilet sit/bowl. You have brought up an interesting perspective thou:) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Master Cecil: I apologize for not being clear about the description of the house. The front door opens up to a "good size" foyer area. There is only one staircase leading up to the second floor. The staircase is on the left hand side of the foyer area. Nonetheless, the staircase is "not" situated in the range of the front door. The other end of the foyer is (1) a closet (for guests to hang their coats) and (2) a hallway that leads to a room for families to eat breakfast and snacks. To be specific, when the front door opens up, the first view farther to the foyer is the side wall of the closet, which occupies roughly more than 1/2 of the range of the front door. And t…

Dear Benjamin, Please refer to the attached sample report. Sample Gender: Male Conversion of Date of Birth: Solar Calendar: 17 Oct 1980 between 1.00 p.m. to 2.59 p.m. Lunar Calendar: 1980, 9th month, 9 day, between 1.00 p.m. to 2.59 p.m. In this example, the arrow shows the direction, he should be facing. Thus his best work directions are: Sitting facing Direction: North-East Exact Degree: 22.5 to 67.4 Description: This is your Prosperity direction or Sitting facing Direction: South-West Exact Degree: 202.5 to 247.4 Description: This is your Excellent direction. Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, I share the same view as what you had mentioned. 2. Based on observations, I do notice that many Chinese do not display deities like Kwan Imm in closed display shelfs. 3. This is like `imprisoning' the deity. 4. In some of the earlier replies, I have also mentioned:- 4.1. Do not place the statue in the bedroom or on the same wall as the toilet. 4.2. I have not mentioned this but some believers or Feng Shui practitioners do not advise that the statute be placed facing the main entrance door. To these practitioners or believers, it is to them, `disrespectful' to `employ' or `misuse' deities to "guard" your main door. Well, the above are some of…

    1. This year, whatever you do; don't fill in or "dig earth" at SE sector. As this year, the five yellow and Grand Duke is at this sector. 2. In theory, so long as you don't do major hacking / drilling at SE, adding a fountain, at that sector is still ok.

Dear all, 1. Further to what I had mentioned, often, I mentioned that it is `inauspicious' to have a toilet at the centrepoint. 2. Much of Feng Shui is about `commonsense'. 3. If we closely examine one of the rationale for not having a toilet at the centrepoint is because of `water' in the toilet / bathroom. 4. If we can keep this toilet, clean and dry is ok. But what happens if we often bathe in this toilet and after bathing, there is always a wet floor or wet walls or water in this toilet. 5. Somehow, such `water' has to evaporate. And it would be `nice' to have a toilet sharing an external wall; because, some of the moisture, can be `distributed' out of the windows or …

  13. Hi Master, I would like to seek your advise in the placement for the altar at my new home. The place that I have in mind is right beside the main door however as I was researching the altar placement online I came to understand from a few online articles and web postings that it may not be a good idea. I am envisioning a large altar right beside the door that will be custom made and according to the yin and yang calculations for both the main altar and the di tzhu kong altar below. Is it really a bad Idea to have the altar beside the main door? Look forward to your advice and thank you master. David King

In Singapore, very few who display the Guan Yin (Kuan Yin) figure ever place a willow in her right hand. So no issue if you don't have one i.e. it makes no difference.

Is it to say, that what ever we do on the house, it should be base on my wife ??? The more important question you should be asking, is who is actually paying for the house? You see a house may be registered under your wife, but if you are paying for the house and you are staying there. You are more likely the breadwinner for the house. But if your wife is paying for the house, then it would be your wife as the breadwinner. Hope that helps to clarify. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research

Dear SY, Thank you for your layout plan. Yes, the layout is pretty `unique' and sometimes it may not be feasible to simply divide it into shapes such as eg. Two `L' shapes as they may not be such. In your case, the preferred option is to make a photocopy of the layout plan or print it. Paste/glue the photocopy on a cardboard. Next `cut-out' the outline of the layout plan. You use a nail to balance the layout. When you are able to balance the entire `cut-out' layout, i.e. centre of gravity then use this point as the centre-point of the home. You can then from here determine the direction to the main entrance. Warmest Regards, Cecil

If I have built in cabinets to make the walls straight, does it help? Yes, sloping walls tend to create additional poison arrow, so not very good in feng shui perspective. In feng shui, as long as you can no longer see the threat, it no longer becomes an issue. So by building a cabinet to hide the slope will be one way to resolve this sha qi. The other way is if your ceiling is very high, a false ceiling is also another away to conceal such sloping walls or any beams. These are usually the most effective sol…

Dear Anon, Some of the major considerations in the placement of an altar are: 1. It must not face a dining table. The rationale here is that, it would be considered disrespectful to eat in front of Guan Yin. Imagine the god salivating while one is eating. 2. It must not be placed on the same wall as the toilet (especially the toilet bowl). 3. Try not to face into a bedroom. This is considered unclean (looking into bedroom[s]/ 4. Where possible the figurine should not be facing the main door. We do not want to the god to be the security guard. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, It is ok for you to thrim the bushes in front of your main door as you are not `disturbing' the earth i.e. unless you are digging the earth at the east location. If you dig the earth, Symbolically place a metal object between the main door area. For example you can use a metallic foodtray or even a shovel on the wall. Metal will be able to shield the house and the trimming. It is best not to let the bushes overgrow as this would bring a different set of inauspicous qi especially since it is at the main entrance. Therefore, trimming does not distrub the earth. If there is a major digging going on in the East, the best metal to use is to place a car/vehicle bet…

Dear Anon, 1. A mountain star can only be activated if that location has a mountain star. It is not like when there is a wall, one can `simply' activate a mountain star. It has to be located. The rationale why no specific object for a mountain star has been quoted other than it should have mass and cannot move implies that one can reasonably find a suitable object for it. In this sense, no one can make commercialization out of it. Imagine, if you were asked to purchase only a specific object. It would certainly make Feng Shui `emporiums' or stores happy. Ultimately, the claim could be that it can be placed on any wall. We do not want this to happen rite? 2. A large bo…

Dear ed Gin, Flying Star house number is only used to check whether a house unit is auspicious or not. This is particularly useful in determining which of the two units say #13-79 or #11-79 has better luck. The descriptions of the impact does not really occur. Whether or not you have such stars depends very much on the flying star analysis of your home more than a house number. So there should be nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.
