Dear Allison, 1. In my opinion, once one bought the house and unless there is a drastic move (most of the time impossible or impractial to change the location) of the toilet. 2. There is really not much one can do. However, as a comfort: usually, if the toilets are in particular located with at least of the walls sharing an external wall; this is considered overall acceptable. 3. Here, contrast this to worst-off senarios like toilets at the centrepoint (the reason why it is better to have the toilet sharing an external wall - thus impossible in such a situation to have the toilet at the centrepoint of the house). 4. Usually the concept of the Eight House is that if one do…

Dear Flannery, 1. Under the symbolic animal concept, yes, the centre represents the Yellow snake. 2. Overall, we should not take the animals "literally". As the saying goes "a picture paints a thousand words". 3. Let me go off-track (first): In Singapore, when we started our first Singapore elections to elect representatives to Parliament, it was mandatory for political parties to adopt animal signs. 4. Thus, if one does not have or could not think of one; candidates can choose from the register a list of "party symbol". Thus one can find an independent candidate with e.g. an animal symbol as an example an elephant, or star etc... 5. Therefore, if (in a hypotheical case)…

Dear Anon, Thank you for drawing up the illustration. From what I can see, it is good that there is quite some distance between bedroom 1 and master bedroom. And from the sketch, it also looks like the master bedroom door is not directly aligned with bedroom 1 door. This is good. In my opinion, although, bedroom 1, 2 (with bathroom) and master bedroom are in the same corridor, because of the adequate space between e.g. bedroom 1 and masterbedroom and bedroom 1 and 2 doors also pose not much a threat here. Therefore, I personally feel that there is not much problem - here. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Diana, 1. If one is frequently ill or stressed, Flying Star Feng Shui can help to diagnose the `birth chart' of the house. And if there are imbalances in one or many sectors, this can be neutralised. 2. However, we are looking more on the `technical' side. And equally important is the Shapes and Form of the house. 3. Here, Shapes and Form is important because, it can be used to look at a house from a macro level and later on a micro level. 4. One should first apply Shapes and Forms first. And if necessary use other tools such as Flying Star to look at within the home. 5. The rationale for this is quite simple:- One classic example was written by Dr Evelyn Lip in on…

Dear Anon, Under the Eight House or East/West 4 persons concept, priority should (where ever possible) be given to sleeping in a good sector. And only after this, then it is nice to have one sleeping in a good direction. Since, most of us have already moved in or impossible to change rooms etc.. there is not much more than what one can do or `squeeze' out this concept. To improve one's luck further, it is best to use other concepts - instead. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Benjamin, 1. I believe Feng Shui can use Feng Shui to help diagnose your problem. 2. Relatively simple situations like you had mentioned especially a staircase at the opposite flat may pose a threat to your home. 3. I hope you can understand that it is very (very) difficult for me to visualize what you are facing, here especially information like the distance the angle of the staircase etc... If you have a sketch and roughly indicate the distance of the rubbish chute and the staircase; and any other apartments close-by, I would be more than happy to take a look at it. You can either fax to me at: 065 - 64820570, or scan it, or take a picture or use any paint software…

Dear Anon, In my opinion, this is considered a minor renovation and from my personal experience; I feel that (or strongly feel) that there is no change in the period of the house. Especially more so, if the house was built under Period 7 i.e. 1984 to 2003. And during this period, if a house was built anytime after 1984, it does not matter if renovation has been carried out many times from 1984 to 2002. The house will always remain a Period 7 house. Warmest Regards Cecil

  8. Dear Anon, 1. Usually, there is no impact on your home especially if it is an ancient or old site. 2. So long as it is not a location of mass masacare or tragedy; there is relative of no concern. 3. On the safe side, if your building is e.g. red brickwalls, this is considered most yang and is one of the `safeguards'. Alternatively, consideration is for painting the exterior of the main door (if it is facing that direction) red. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Chinese numerology and even any other numerology can be very confusing. This is because, there can be varied interpretation. And the same number can be considered auspicious but can also be interpreted as inauspicious. For example: a number such as 5. Some consider it auspicious because, 5 represents `balance' or the Five Elements concept. While others may view it differently e.g. Flying Star number which is inauspicious as it is also known as " misfortune " or Deadly Yellow or bad yellow star. 2. In Chinese numerology, the phonetic sound is equally important. Especially numbers like 4 represents " die " in Cantonese. While `8' represents `fatt' or prosperi…

Dear Stacey, 1. What you are looking at is only based on `micro' Feng Shui. Although it is nice to get micro Feng Shui right, it is just part of holistic Feng Shui. (External environment is equally important). 2. Usually, in micro Feng Shui, the entire house Feng Shui is looked at. Not just whether the main door is facing southeast or southwest. Do also look at intangile force facing the bedroom area. 3. If the main door is really needed to be changed: it can be tilted to `kill two birds' with one stone i.e. away from SW and facing a good direction. However, usually a good date is chosen and the precise angled calcuated for the owner (to benefit him/her). Warmest Regards,…

Dear Wendy, 1. In my opinion, for an office environment - it is common to find certain offices or sitting positions with a glass wall behind it. 2. Where possible, in such situations, have a back personal "side-table" along the glass panel. This is symbolic of a mountain effect. And makes the ratio of nearly 33.3 percent or more - with shelves and the upper half glass panels. It would thus qualify as a mountain support in such a situation. 3. Usually, many offices will try to maximise document space with such side or back shelving. 4. If the above is not possible, then curtain blinds either horizontal type or vertical type is still acceptable as a symbolic screen. 5. In …

Dear Anon, In Feng Shui, where the kitchen door face the front door, it is good not to expose cutlery e.g. forks or knifes (if there is a kitchen table top) facing the door. Otherwise, there is not much one can do here. A stove can still face the refrigerator. However, hopefully, this is not the north part of the house or the kitchen is not at the north compass direction. Where, fire element is quite weak. Overall, such a senario you mentioned: cannot be undone unless there is a renovation involved i.e. there is no `magic' involved unless there is physical renovations involved here. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Patrick, 1. Imagine luck as the reception of wealth. And one good visual example is to clasp one's two hands together. Here, if the house is on the `pan' or on the palm, this is good. 2. Thus, if one can visualise the above, a house below road level may not necessarily be bad. On the contrary, if there is excellent drainage, not too deep or angled depth, it can be a good house. 3. However, it has to depend on a case-by-case basis. But, the noticable sign is that your home is not alone in the neigbhourhood. And there are many homes within your estate. 4. If there are many of such homes within the vicinity of your house and they are in "good repair", then, it is a goo…

Dear Angelica, 1. Yes, it is a common occurence to place two tiger statues with mouths wide open on each side of the main entrance door mainly for protection. 2. Try to add a red ribbon on the neck of each of the tiger statues. 3. Basically, the tiger statue e.g. white or gold represents the Metal element. 4. And the red ribbon helps to control the tiger. Usually, a pearl is added to the centre of the ribbon. 5. On another issue of `wealth' as opposed to protection:- For a north facing entrance, it is particularly auspicious to use the two tiger statues (white or gold). As metal is auspicious for this sector. Thus metal, helps water to grow. Thus an auspicious combinatio…

  17. Dear Catherine, 1. Overall, the concept of condominiums is considered by standards "pretty new". 2. The earliest adoption of pools in estates can be derived more from hotels. And in Singapore, this is only become popular (due to affluence) in the last 20 years. 3. Therefore, there are not much case studies to say for sure whether, the effects of a water position that you mentioned in a high rise may or may not lead to `roving eye'. I.e. frankly, we cannot say for sure if this is going to happen (in majority of the cases). As no one has fully looked at this situation. And as we are all aware, as relationships are private nature, no one would be willing to share their exp…

Dear Hoa Luong, Personal relationships can be strong. And binding element e.g. in the home may not be able to help much. In your boyfriend's case, try to enhance personal self e.g. wear more green or brown colours. And for yourself, you can reduce your water e.g. wearing red. This should help abit. 20. Dear Yumeko, Assuming that one is weak water and weak earth. You can use the Compatibility report at www.geomancy-online.com to look at the binding element for a weak water and weak earth person. For these two persons - the proposed binding element would be two elements. In locations in the house in particular: your bedroom and living room area; you can enhance the bedroom with the binding elements. For example: since a weak water and weak earth person would need two binding elements then: a combination of enhancement can be:- - paint the walls in one of the binding element colour. And e.g. for the wardrope use the second binding element. Or instead, use the appropriate …

Dear Aggeliki, Currently in the internet, the most language used is English. And majority of Feng Shui resources available (in the internet/web) are in English. As Chinese sites progress or Taiwanese sites progress, usually the main media is in Mandarin. Frankly, it is hard to find resources in your own language. It is good that you continue to `pick-up' on English. As nowadays there are overwhelming information that you can learn under this language. Wishing you all the best in your quest! Dear Eugene, To clarify, when you mentioned "south of the building" does it mean that the frontage is at the north. And that the huge lake is at the back of the building. If so, what is the distance from the lake. Would you be possible to draw a sketch of your building, in relation to the outline of the lake and high-way (with a top-down prespective) which can relatively indicate the distance and outline e.g. the highway is moving towards your building or parallel or curing inwards etc... Frankly, it is very difficult to comment on the current information. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  23. Dear Anon, Please see below:- There is relatively no harm hanging a small object. Peacock signifies beauty and dignity. Because of the "huge eye" on a peacock feather, some say that it can drive evil spirit away. Sometimes, this can be found in some Chinese temples. In Chinese culture, peacock is used much less than in Indian culture where there are more myth involved in it's use such as the peacock throne. Predominantly, after the Manchus conquered China, manchu officials adorn hats with peacock feather. Frankly, there is no specific location to place it. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yang Ming, So long as there is no direct path of `air' from the main entrance to the back, then this is not an issue. Yes a set of beads can be hung at the kitchen entrance. Usually, it should be full height or at least cover three-quarters of the length of the location it is placed at. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jack, There are two ways to see the use of water in Feng Shui:- 1. On a scientific basis, water positions is looked at in conjuction with Feng Shui theories : Shapes and Forms & Flying Star. In particular, under Flying Star, locations where metal elements have been detected, water can be used to enhance such "metal locations". Thus a combination of water with metal can help here. 2. On a non-scientific basis, one would have to visualise locations one can place a fish tank at. Usually, since it is a tall object, it is placed along a wall. And in most homes in the living room area. 3. Never place a fish tank at the centre location of a home. As this would affect fa…
