Dear Anon, The most important thing is for the 6 rods to be all Metal, especially brass. The rest of the support is fine to be non Metal. The point is because 6 rods is Strong Metal. Dear Anon, If we compare this plant's thorn's they are considered as "pussy-cat" thorns that are real soft and nothing quite like those of the cactus or rose etc... In terms of Feng Shui for a landed property; plants with thorns are actually quite common place especially at external wall windows or at corners of home to deter thieves from climbing into the home.
