Understand it is symbols of protection in the home or office. Dear Sophia, This is not Feng Shui but rather, it is a common practise by many Chinese to place the Kuan Kong (holding a Chinese long sword) facing a main entrance. Since he is holding a sword, he should not be facing into or "looking" at us in the living room. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Linda, 1. Firstly, Congratulations! 2. If you are in Singapore, or any in the region, it is common to go to any of the temples to get `blessed'. If you are not sure which temple, you can visit more `netural' temples such as the Goddess of Mercy Temple (Quan Yin) at Waterloo street. 3. Items like Buddhas and other religious objects are not Feng Shui so, I do not subscribe to users buying them for such purposes. As it has more to do with religion. And inviting idols etc.. would imply that one may have to pray to these. So this is up to the individual and their faith. 4. More importantly the main considerations are: (In most traditional practises) a. Choosing an auspic…

Dear Agnes, Although sometimes, we read that slanted roofs are "inauspicious" but frankly this is very common and in my opinion, do not pose any issue especially if they do not have large beams "falling" down on a bed or a sit. Or large beams can be seen, when we look up directly. You should, try to check out your best sleeping direction or work direction using the Eight House theory, first. Then check to see if these positions can be applied to your bedroom (in relation to the shapes and forms of the room). Under the Shapes and Forms Feng Shui, try to, see if the bed / tables/chairs can be positioned "comfortably". Warmest Regards, Cecil

    1. The professional approach is more than the simplistic view that since the home is facing "south-east"; it DOES NOT automatically mean that the best colour(s) is GREEN (SE = wood). 2. For example, most of the professional Feng Shui practitioners apply Flying Star Feng Shui. And if a SECTOR of a home does have a #3; this represents "BAD WOOD". And anything associated with green such as GREEN colour or green plants is considered inauspicious, here. 3. Thus the notion that SE = Wood, West = Metal, North = Water is too simplistic and often unfortunately, considered as "Kindergarten Feng Shui". 4. Traditionally professional Feng Shui practitioners would first look at Para…

  8. 1. Locally, in Singapore, as we have 4 major religious groups; especially for multi-nationals and small to medium sized businessess; if these business deals with the "public" at large, often if not, such a figurine is never displayed in an office. (Perhaps also due to the respect of other religions e.g. Muslims, Hindus, Catholics/Christians, etc.. 2. In Singapore, such figurines are often displayed within a home e.g. the living room.. and seldom in an office as mentioned earlier unless the office itself deals with such objects or figurines directly. 3. Dear Darlene, 1. For the Chinese, there is what is known as ancestor worship. Here, a portrait of a loved one or a tablet (representing the loved one) and a incense or joss stick holder is placed on an altar. Usually, many of the houses have space constraints and the altar (ancestor worship) is placed in the living room or dinning room. 2. I believe, your situation is not the same as the above. But rather to keep the portraits. In your case, it is best to keep the portraits on a wall, in a `quiet room' such as the study room. Perhaps, you can also share with us have large are the portraits and if you have any other rooms that you have thought off. Alternatively, in the w…

Dear Anon, Please see below:- It is still acceptable to have water at the East in a very general sense. A more professional approach is to extend the Flying Star of the house, and map it over this area. More importantly check that there are no imbalances with water at the east. For example, if the sector is already `full' of water element, this is no good. Alternatively if that sector needs more water element, then water outside this area is good. But if the sector needs Fire element to cure an imbalance and you have water, as Water diminises fire, or drown it, this would not be ideal. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi Anon, For Eight House, this kind of opposite situations are quite common. Here is where you must apply the give and take approach. For example, the house should best fit the breadwinner earning most for the entire family. While the bedrooms should be suitable to other family members that will be staying there. So for example, if the breadwinner gets a Prosperity facing, even if he gets a lesser suitable bedroom ie spook / irritation, this should be fine. The breadwinner should then give the spouse a better room ie Health. That means that even if the spouse isn't that suitable to the house, she will draw luck from the more suitable bedroom. Other areas, you mu…

Dear Anon, Please see below:- If the compass direction falls closer to one wall, the mountain star should be placed on this wall. The rationale is that there is a conflict here. The front door should be activated by a water star. e.g. outside the front door, it should be low and clear space. Placing a mountain star inside the front door does not achieve the above purpose i.e. a waste of time and money. In addition, what happens if the solid object falls off and hits the head of someone coming into the main entrance door. Ideally, it should be objects like a paper weight and immovable e.g. without wheels. It can be of any materials e.g. a solid rock object, cr…

However, if you do have a religion or an altar, then, offer some prayers. If you do not have this but, can instead:- a. purchase a few lime (or last resort lemon), cut the lime into two pieces. b. Purchase also flowers e.g. rose, c.then pour tap water into a clean wash basin container (3 quarters or nearly full) d. place the cut half-lime and flowers into the bowl. e. bath first. And once completed bathing, pour the water with lime/flower onto your head. Moving your hands from the front to the top of your head. f. Afterward…

  18. Dear Anon, 1. No, what you mentioned is not the correct application of Feng Shui. 2. In Feng Shui, we must determine, whether is it personalised for the individual? 2.1 If one look at it closely, even Shapes and Form School analysis is personalised to the individual or the specific home. For example, if there is a corner of a building aimed at your home, the poison arrow is aimed at that specific house. Thus it does not mean that because of the poison arrow aimed at the above house, other houses e.g. a neighbours would automatically get the Sha Qi. Most likely not. If so, it may, instead be at a `T' junction and thus have a totally different poison arrow. If we scrutini…

  19. Dear Eva, 1. The most common Compass School techique of the Eight House Theory is to look at the compatiblity of the house to the breadwinner. 2. I am not sure if I got your question correct, but perhaps, I believe what you meant was whose profile to use? If this is the case, usually it is the person who earns the most for the house. Thus for a suitable house i.e. front door, should be favourable to the element of the breadwinner. As Feng Shui is a holistic method, we should also for example look at each family member especially in relation to the intangible force at their bedroom. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  22. Under the Flying Star Feng Shui, #9 represents the fire element. And fire inflames #2 (bad - weak - earth) and #5 (bad strong earth) elements. Not exactly the kind of cure one should intend to apply to these two bad earth stars. Maybe, just maybe for #3 (bad wood). In my opinion, therefore, it is not the normal convention to apply 9 coins for #2 and/or #5. However, as Flying Star analysis takes into account the 81 combinations of the Mountain and Water Stars, then in some cases, it may be used.

Dear Seema, In my opinion, this area has to do with `beliefs' than Feng Shui. It is said that Feng Shui has an influence on a specific area of our `luck'. There is more towards, Earth Luck. `Luck' is diverse and it is said that there are many types of luck. A `genuine' gift can be considered a positive statement and whatever we do or feel, should be positive. Feeling `positive' e.g. about our environment such as reminisent of a gift i.e. such as lauging buddha in your culture, could perhaps give a good feeling. Being positive is good even if it does not have a direct relationship with Feng Shui. Contrary to the belief that we should place our eggs into one basket i.e. Ho…

  24. Dear Jacqueline, Usually, if you can obtain, a natural dried out bottle gourd i.e. brown in colour. Is it possible to obtain this type of bottle gourd. Try to find the above first before, using others such as jade or silver - if possible. Although, this two type can be used. Between this two (jade or silver) `metal' silver is preferred over jade. Dear Sophia, Yes, so far, I have seen many people who had placed a micro-wave next to the refridgerator and even opposite it. If one sees the productive cycle flow of the five elements, metal supports water, this is a productive cycle. Thus no issue. It is not like water destroys fire under the destructive cycle flow. Which is often considered not auspicious. Warmest Regards, Cecil
