Dear Fiona, Yes, it is OK to change the ground floor roof tiles. But, where possible, it should not leave the altar exposed as this is considered inauspicious (symbollically disrespectful to the "gods"). If the roof tiles on the second floor is dirty, than, this can be included as part of the means to try to fly to the next period. Warmest Regards, Cecil

More apologies! I seem to be having difficulty getting to know the site and the correct way to post - now my floorplan has become detached from my question! Please bear with me and let me repeat. I am Gua 2, my husband also (from Gua 5). Our (employer provided) house is period 7, SE 1 (122 degrees). My first concern is whether the external back hallway, shared with one neighbour upstairs (the house was originally built as one and later divided into two flats by creating our 'back door'), or whether I should treat it as a 'missing corner' in a U-shaped plan. My second concern is about the positioning of our bed. Our bedroom window is in the SW of the room and faces SW, bed…

Dear Anon, The situation you faced is often very common. This is because one must understand: 1. The Tong Shu dates are often very general advise. Since it is not customised to the couple(s). 2. Many Feng Shui practitioners look into the couple's ba zi to see if the date is suitable for both (or not). 3. In addition, it is good to check whether the date is suitable for the parents and parents-in-law. If not, one way is to wear some colour(s) that is favourable to their ba zi. 4. Cannot interpret the gabbled posting "????". Most of the time, Chinese prefer not to get married during the 7th lunar month. Warmest Regards, Cecil Thanks. Edmond

Dear Jen, Frankly, if this is a small plant, and a one-off exercise, there is no issue in doing so. Unless, it is a prolonged event - which it is not. In my opinion, go ahead with it. There is one School of thought that says that one could place a metal piece or metal (object) between this area and the home.. Hmm... not necessary. Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. So long as you D.I.Y. is OK:) Don't call the bulldozers in! This is really - not too good....

Dear Fiona, Yes, in some of the past illustrations (graphics) in this forum, the Hulu or bottle gourd is often used as a "cure" in Feng Shui. For example, for those who have read or seen series on the Journey to the West; or other Chinese fairy tale classics, a deity uses this bottle gourd to "suck" in bad elements into it. Much like the show: " I dream of genie ", popular in the 1970's where the genie lives in a bottle. The bottle gourd or Hulu, is thus often recommended to be placed between the toilet bowl and the wall to the bedroom. In addition, an alternative to using metal as a cure, the bottle gourd is sometimes placed inside a bedroom or hung above a bed, where t…

Dear Jen, Thanks for the information. Yes, this is very common even locally in my country, also. It is not necessarily true all the time that such houses will have a wealth leak. As many of us are aware: 1. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, certain homes (based on facing direction) are said to have better qi flow then others. Thus, in one aspect, a home with a good facing direction does matter. 2. How suitable the house is to the breadwinner. This is another consideration. 3. Quantum Leap in Feng Shui Often, a home (on it's own) can be an average or good house. But, ulitmately, some homes can "suck wealth" from it's neighbours. Only then, can there be a quantum leap in Feng Sh…

Dear Sybil, More importantly is the main entrance door. This door should (MUST) open inwards. On the practical side, there is frankly no issue with front gate opening out. This is often because of the constraint of limited interior space to open inwards: as it `hit' a parked car. Here, also many auto-gate opening devices are fitted to swing outwards - as this is most practical solution as mentioned above. We can say: It is nice to have it open inwards - provided it is practical. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cheng Teik, Even if heavy knocking was done prior to Feb 2004, do check the following: 1. roof - is the roofing done on or after this period. 2. main door? does the main door remain or will it be changed after Feb 2004. 3. Is the main door or other fittings e.g. no window frame or window fitted especially at the frontage or the main door has not been fitted yet. 4. Has the kitchen being fully renovated and stove placed in? If any of the above remain uncompleted, then, it is safe to say that one's home will going to be a Period 8 home. Even if a home is a Period 7 home, it can still `fly' to Period 8 (but not the other way around). Doing some of the activities mentio…

Dear Nisha, Actually, the concern of a mirror facing the bed stems from the belief that when one sleeps, some Chinese belief that the spirit leaves the body. When doing so, it may get a "shock" to see itself in the mirror. This is why, often, numerous Feng Shui books or practitioners does not favour having a mirror facing the bed. However, in the past I had mentioned that more importantly, it has to do with "how sensitive" we are or are not. For example, contrary to the above belief, we could say that when we sleep, our spirit, leaves our body. And, because it wants to look nice, look into the mirror and combs his/her hair before, going off! 2. Overall, we often hear tha…

Dera Fiona, To be honest, one area to look at is Feng Shui. But equally important is many other factors especially that each of our character has been formed throughout our young age. This is why, most of the time, when we reach 18 or 21, we are allowed to sign a specific signature. As our character component is already comprise of what we are. Under Chinese horoscope, the only explanation is that the best match for a Rat partner is the dragon or monkey. Whilst the ram is not as a good match. The worst conflict is a horse with rat. Usually, the major part of Feng Shui is to allow for a good home environment conducive to family life. And from here, the spin-off is that a g…

Dear Samatha, Another alternative is the grille gate. Here, for example, if one has a stainless steel or aluminium gate, some of the panels can be flushed with "steel" or aluminium sheet. Such that for the steel sheet, it covers e.g. the knee level or sometimes we see aluminium gates that have a large area covered up. It is nice to have the steel sheet covering the gille gate surface as it is reflective. And this reflection is akin to a ba gua mirror. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Eleni, If you are D.I.Y. Feng Shui, then, it is best that you may have to (depending on your interest and absorption), take as little as a month or even 6 to 1 year to really understand some of the key principles. I understand, many of us, simply want to read a book on Feng Shui and apply the ideas immediately. However, it is not like "William Hung" of the American Idol fame, http://www.williamhung.org who thinks that every area can be "cultivated" or worked on for everyone. For example, several years back, this Doctor, sought to practice Feng Shui. Usually doctors are intelligent people. But this doctor thought that Feng Shui is just like reading books on the human …

Dear Anon, Yes, sometime back in the 1970's it was very common to purchase boomerangs from Oz. Frankly, I myself had also did decorate my home with a single boomerang and at one time two huge fork and spoons! So far, to me, it seems that they do not remotely look like knifes or swords. Thus I feel it is OK. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear A J, Generally, IF the home is a Period 8 home, majority of SE facing homes have favourable Flying Star especially water star 8 at this sector. This is one consideration. Under the Eight House, it is best also to check the eight house influence in the master bedroom. Hopefully it is not you or your partner's disaster or death side. Alternatively, in Feng Shui, there is a possibility of tilting the main door towards a good facing direction. This is said to be "killing two birds" with one stone i.e. no longer face inauspicious direction and changed to a good favourable main door direction. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Todd, Congratulations! For a newbie, you did a great job in researching and constructing a Flying Star Chart. 1. Yes, given that Grand Duke is at SW this year, it is indeed a good idea to give up on placing the tub at this sector, here. 2. At South-East sector, quickly: #1 = water #2 bad earth and #4 is wood. Quoting your research: "Lu Qi V2.3 Flying Stars of House - Metal is the cure, as it weakens the Earth and strengthens the Water of the good star 1. Possibly Wood, which fed by Water, controls the aggressive Earth of 2. But no mobile Water, that would activate the bad star 2!" Based on the Five elements concept: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5el…

  17. Dear Fiona, Yes, I do agree with your analysis. Under Period 8, if your home has a SE 2 Flying star chart; it is not really a fantastic chart since only the front and back have good numbers. Otherwise, as you had mentioned, majority of the other sectors under SE 2 (P8) needs attention. Therefore, it is like a double edged sword, if the home were to fly to Period 8. No, although there is the pearl string, but you still need to place a cure for star #7 especially at the frontage. However, once this is neutralised; this is fair game:) Do use the alternative door, you mentioned. Warmest Regards, Cecil

dear Jen, 1. If there is no boundary and the entire piece of land seamlessly looks like merging with the entire area, than, this is far better off! Than, purposely demarcating boundary. Where, it will clearly show as a truly odd shaped piece of land. 2. Generally, we should not be too fearful of odd shaped piece of land. Unless often it affects the drainage of the land. 3. Overall, after reading your note, I do feel sad, not because of your land but the fact that I live in a country that not only must one have a fence but it has to be relatively high or prevent unauthorised people coming into it. 4. In Asia, and especially in Singapore the norm for a landed property home…

Dear Val, Understand that there will be a confusion. In fact, quite recently, there is an earlier forum message seeking clarification of Gua 5 (Kua 5). Please do a SEARCH for the above. The rationale is because when the calculation "hits" Gua 5, it is re-directed to the correct Gua / Kua based on male or female. By-the-way (BTW), therefore " Gua 5 " is actually the centre Gua. And since there are only eight sectors, there is no such thing as an actual centre Gua / Kua 5. Please go to the earlier message and you can find out more. Warmest Regards, Cecil Much

Warmest Regards, Cecil The Kindly Many thanks! -Pat

Dear Joey, This is a very good question. Since you encountered such a situation, it is best to: 1. Often, this building does not stand-alone. 2. Do look around at other buildings on the same "row". And where their "main entrance" are located. 3. If it is a shopping complex, usually, there is a "major" entry or lobby vs a smaller side lobby. 4. Check for sun-light/shadow flow. Which facing is blocked by other buildings? 5. Is the building close to the sea? If so, often, we should look closely at the facing towards the sea. 6. At the entrance area, check to see which lobby looks bright (natural brightness). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Frankly, this category of Feng Shui is often classified under "Kindergarten Feng Shui". Where we commonly hear: North = water, South = fire etc.. Just a few years ago, I remembered, locally some practitioners were simply practising this type of Feng Shui. Many of them, I heard, have very few business - if any. With more sophisticated consumers; it would be more fruitful to learn more of both Shapes and Forms as well as Compass School Feng Shui. Under Flying Star, instead of a generalised view that north = water, one should follow where the #1 star lands on the 9 grid system. Here, #1 and a combination of it e.g. #4 often leads to prosperity etc... Truly, do mak…

Dear Leon, What you refer to is actually sometimes known as the "Eight-One Combinations". The explanation is that 81 Combinations are fixed detailed description of different combinations as the numbers of the stars comes together. It provides short explanation of the combination effects. For example: MS [8] & WS[6] means Prosperity, good wealth. Geomancy.net Flying star course students, do get a table showing all the meaning of the 81 combinations i.e. 1 with 2 2 with 3 etc.. to 9 with 9 Alternatively, perhaps some authors may have such a table for you. Currently I am very busy, as several new condominiums have TOP such as Gardens @ Bishan and the Maderia and …

Dear Nisha, It is understandable, when you mentioned that you are only a tenant and would like to have many of your favourite things in your bedroom. Yes, I do encourage you to make first and foremost your room as comfortable with all your favourite things! It does not matter if there are fishes. But, it brings you both pleasure and comfort - GO FOR IT! The logic here is based on this understanding: 1. Often, many good FS practitioners will stick to or advise their clients on the Holy Trinity of Feng Shui: 1.1 Heaven Luck - what is given to us 1.2 Earth Luck - our abode / work place 1.3 Human Luck - what brings us happiness:) Sometimes, for some, we have limited earth luc…

Dear Anon, Frankly, looks like, in-order to replace the mirror it has to be prised /cracked to reply. Actually, I feel that: 1. Often, the first is based on "Common-sense approach". One reason why, it is not favourable to break the glass is because of splinters or shards of glass. Proper cleaning after the removal is OK. 2. Any since the glass is already chipped, so long as you are not the one removing it, I feel that this is OK. Where possible, or a more practical approach is to let the workmen remove-it while you do not see the activity. 3. Here, you are not the one breaking up the glass. 4. If you have not moved-in, yet, it is better! Do all this before your actual m…
