Dear Anon, House numbers has more to do with one's preferences or culture. In particular, many Chinese (Cantonese) do not like number number 4 or if a series of number sounds inauspicious. Otherwise, there is no basis in Feng Shui on house numbers. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. If the apartment is high; i.e. if one looks out of the window and cannot see the pole; then it is not a threat. 2. Often, an apartment that is higher than 4th storey, would not have a lone lamp post slicing into it. 3. In several studies, there were no reported evidence that power lines cause `Sha qi'. - Magnetism from powerlines is unlike radiation e.g from the sun or micro-wave etc... 4. For the barren field, it is ok if it is not an entire `long stretch' e.g. streching from several miles. If the field is e.g. a small area such as one or two foot-ball field and after this, there are building complex; it is usually ok. Warmest Regards, Cecil Warmest Regar…

Dear Mr. Lee, If for the male in a house the ideal property is for the door to face southwest and for the female of the house it would be for the door to face northeast then is a property that faces east a problem? If it is then what if the main door used to enter or exit was in fact facing north? Another question is what if anything is symbolized or caused by having a church across the street?

Dear Santanu, Please see below:- Currently, even with the Chinese 7th month, I am currently very busy with continously never ending stream of audits and may take sometime to reply to all the questions posted here. I am Santanu Biswas - My date of birth: The most practical approach in applying Feng Shui is via "priorities". Here, we should be aware of what are CRITICAL and what are NICE-TO-HAVE situations: Critical issues: 1. Shapes and Forms of the room 1.1 Often, our placement of beds and furniture e.g. work/study table has much to do with the layout of a bedroom: where is the bedroom door, what shape does the bedroom take? where is the toilet, toilet door; w…

Dear Sonali, 1. The most important consideration for a home is, first and foremost the external environment, the site and the building or home. 2. Within the four walls; as you had mentioned; placement of beds are often restricted by the size of the bedroom, the location of the bedroom door, the windows and any attached bathrooms. 2.1 Therefore, given such a situation; preferably - the bed-head should be placed against a solid wall. 2.2 Under the Eight House, if the one's head cannot face a good direction or especially if the bedroom is unfavourable to a spouse; let the spouse with the better `intangible' force sleep closer to the side closest to this `intangible' force.…

Dear Susan, 1. Some geomancers or users simply consider only the Year of birth. While others consider both Year and Month of birth. 2. While others look at Year, Month, Day and Time of birth. Here (geomancy.net); the House of Life and House of Conception are also considered. 3. One of the rationale is besides other considerations; the more variables i.e. stems and branches, the more we can analyse any double or triple combination clashes. These clashes sometimes are unfavourable: while other clashes are favourable. 4. House of Life or how `hard' is one's life or if one was born with a silver spoon is another consideration that can sway one's element e.g. weak water to str…

Dear Master Cecil: I apologize for not being clear about the description of the house. The front door opens up to a "good size" foyer area. There is only one staircase leading up to the second floor. The staircase is on the left hand side of the foyer area. Nonetheless, the staircase is "not" situated in the range of the front door. The other end of the foyer is (1) a closet (for guests to hang their coats) and (2) a hallway that leads to a room for families to eat breakfast and snacks. To be specific, when the front door opens up, the first view farther to the foyer is the side wall of the closet, which occupies roughly more than 1/2 of the range of the front door. And t…

Dear Kathryn, Please see below:- On 8/14/2003 5:35:59 AM, Kathryn wrote: Frankly, there is not much "productive" inputs that can be gotten from the concepts like wealth/fame; helpful people or this sort of "Feng Shui". Honestly, such `fixed' concepts are often too general to be of use to anyone. For a start, is it still possible to `undo' the things that you had done previously. This is because, currently without much information or nor applying proper Feng Shui eg. Flying star etc... I don't have a clue (or is gropping) in the dark. Here, you may have to use `trial and error' FS. In my opinion, do try to forget about the notation of " relationship corner ", " creativ…

Dear Vun Fook, Earlier, on my reply on the white-tiger location, yes, besides the compass direction of West, SW etc...: another major consideration is the Flying Star chart of that specific location. I have just scanned thru your message, but did not fully understand it. But for the star chart of 5ms 2 ws and 7, yes, with such a combination, a third element water is useful here. Under the Five elements concept: Earth -> Metal -> Water Since #5 and #2 are bad earth; Metal can help to draw out some of these earth. But not enough. In fact, this location should have `more metal' to help to further balance #5 and #2. A double edged sword is #7 weak earth. During this cur…

Dear Vanessa, CONGRATULATIONS! 1. Frankly, this has more to do with beliefs (Chinese beliefs) than Feng Shui. 2. In the past, it is common to see the frontage of a wedding card with the circular Phoenix and Dragon motif on pink coloured paper. 3. A sample is as shown under Geomancy.net's picture resources:- http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/mypictures.cgi?action=view&link=Celebrations_And_Festivals/Chinese_Weddings/invitation_cards&image=wedding-f2.gif&img=0&search=wedding&cat=all&tt=&bool=and 4. This is where the Phoenix is suppose to represent the dragon represents the male gender with the `double happiness' motif at the bottom of th…

Dear Victor, 1. For the layout plan, often, the emphasis is to try to find the `center-of-gravity' of a home. 2. There is really no hard and fast rule as to whether a balcony can or should be excluded. Often, a more important issue is the garage: as this often occupies a larger area and if we take the entire garage into consideration, it may distort the center-of-gravity of a home. 3. For a balcony, it has to be looked into in relation to the entire layout plan. 4. For example, some balcony protrudes on a landed property. If so, often, we should not take this into account. 5. If the balcony is within the fringe of the entire layout plan (or top-view) and it does not see…

Hi! I just discovered this forum and it seems to me very helpful initiative. I just began reading about Feng Shui and I have discovered that my living room is in an unfavorable position at the NE. What colors or decor should I add/avoid to bring a more balanced chi flow? Thank you very much in advance for your advice!

Dear Tammy, Please see below:- In fact, often, such homes that you had mentioned, ended up more like the `frontage' of the home. (And the main entrance/road) Often the worry about a water position is if (top-down) view, it seems to slice inwards or towards the home. (Much like a knife - cutting into the home). Trees / plants are acceptable, since, they often shade areas and invite: birds to the area. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Note: I strongly suggest you chrome plate your peacock feathers. If you are at IMM, I think it is at third storey, (just after the car park entrance, to the right, there is a sticker shop; do see if you can purchase a circular `police' badge - to stick to the back of the car. (Apologies, this scanned image is not clear.. but I hope u get the idea:) In Singapore, the morale of the story is "YOU KISS, YOU AND I PAY:( " (Lose No claim bonus NCB etc...) Warmest Regards, Cecil Thanks again for your humorous reply. Perhaps the road tax disc is still not enough looking at the accident rates. so, i put peacock feathers at the back of my car, staring at the driver behind me and m…

Dear Jen, Please don't get too unduly worried about this. There are so many theories in Feng Shui. One reference point has to do with these: 1. Spirits - are (were) said to travel in a straight line. The thought is (was) that they cannot negotiate turnings. This is the rationale why, many bridges have curves or even some Feng Shui practitioners ask their clients to tilt their door at the NE. 2. Clue: The idea came about because: NE is suppose to be the location where spirits or ghosts come into our world i.e. the devil's gate. And it would be so convenient; (to enter our homes) if our main door happens to be the first door they see. BTW, they are said to be able to go thr…

Dear Anon, Frankly, I do not use this sort of thing. This is because; often practitioners don't purposely recommend these situations - more of a safety (harzard) factor. We do not want to be liable - if by any chance, it catches fire. So, often, it is `supervised' properly; then it is acceptable. Frankly, I don't see an issue with water used here. I believe, it is more of a practical reason. Since the wax often falls into the water and makes it easier to maintain. It is not like the water `poured' onto the fire to extinguish it. There is a floating medium i.e. the wax that is in-between/intermediary between the two. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. To the Chinese, it is inauspicious to have the legs facing outwards towards the bedroom door. This is often called the `coffin' position. (Where, traditionally, we bring out a dead person: legs first - head later out of a home. 2. A bed need not be farther away from the door, but as mentioned, it is best not to face the door. (For privacy, it is preferred that we often do not want to sleep too close to the door.) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Matilde, Attached please find a common "new home blessing ceremony". But it is based on several Chinese customs. And, please note that quite alot of items mentioned are specific to the Chinese community. However, symbolism plays an important part in our (Chinese) culture. The most simpliest forms of `blessings' has to do with showering "wealth" into our homes. For example, simple situations could include: 1. For the Chinese sprinkle (raw) rice all around the home. Here, it is like showering wealth into the home. 2. Some Chinese sprinkle (raw) green beans also. This also symbolise sowing seeds into the home e.g. having children. Where the green beans: green symbolise …

Dear Sir, I'm looking at building a new house (two storey) on a leveled block of land. Since I'm building new, I thought I'll use Fung Shui to improve my life and most importantly my family. Mind you I've never use Fung Shui before. Can you please provide some good Fung Shui tips in the Plan drawing phase in general such as what room should be place in which direction and which direction a particular room shouldn't be facing. I have a few queries. Firstly, if we have the front entrance (main door) into the house and then have a straight hall way directing to the back of the house which means you can see and walk straight to the back from the main door. Is this consider ba…

Dear Cecil and Forum Members You may recall, on 28 July I posted a question regarding my sinus/post nasal drip problem which I have had since October 2002. Cecil suggested I move my bed away from the window. I did this last Monday. I also ceased taking my homeopathics that day to see what would occur. Within 24 hours 98% of the mucous in my sinuses had dried up and I now rarely cough at night time or in the mornings. The difference is quite staggering actually. My husband now gets a good nights sleep, rather than being wakened up by me coughing my head off. He of course is thrilled to bits ! I was sleeping on the favourable mountain star #7, but as Cecil always says, shap…
