Further to what I had mentioned:- Flying Star Feng Shui is used in particular to look at the frontage (water star - if any) of a landed property or locations where there can reasonably be a mountain star. Thus, as mentioned earlier, if Metal elements or Water elements are detected, water or flat level areas can be enhanced - especially if Metal stars are present. For mountain stars, it can be located at the side of the house (next to main entrance) or at the back of the house - if a mountain star is found at that specific sector). The above together with Shapes and Forms MUST be taken under consideration, TOGETHER and should not be viewed separately. Other than the above,…

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Congratulations on your new home! In general, it is always prudent to look at `weaknessess' if any of a new home. Prior to making enhancements. This is usually the key success factor. Try to make sure that your main entrance door is protected. (Usually, there is no threats to the main entrance). But, there is no harm doing a `preventive audit'. Such as looking out of the main door and from all windows of the home. Check for poison arrows e.g. lamp posting slicing thru the main door or window(s) or other threats. Is there a direct path of `air flow' from the main door directly out at the opposite end? As mentioned, there is really no …

Dear Jonathan, In Feng Shui, one can either access one's unit or the entire facing of the unit's block (or frontage). Usually, for a unit such as yours, it is best to look at your main door only and not the building's main entrance. Please see below:- But, if your balcony forms part or is " within " the house, then it should be taken into the 9 grid. You can do a search for the word " condo " and there are many case studies especially under the conference: Photo Tours of Interest (with pictures). You should be able to find several resources on condos. Do use the SEARCH feature in this forum to narrow down your search field. If you have any layout plan that …

Dear Doctor Z, It is best to give a sketch else, with a top down perspective. I really do not like to second guess or run thru line by line description. Which I feel can lead to miscommunication. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Recently I was in a store that sells decorative items, and I saw some items using copies of the "ancient Chinese coins" with the square hole in the middle. However, these coins were of various sizes, some very large and some very small, and arranged in different ways not similar to what you have shown in this site. I was thinking of buying one of these items and taking it apart to use the coins from it in the proper arrangement. Is it important what size these coins are? Is there a minimum size or a standard size? How can I tell if the coins I saw are ok to use for this purpose? Miriam

Dear Steffi, 1. Thanks for bring this interesting question. 2. In fact, I had previously posted some information on this issue. 3. In 1986, when I first developed my Chinese Horoscope site:- http://www.lovesigns.net 4. I was trying to find an appropriate information for the first page of this site. 4.1 I found this quote:- " If we want to be loved we must disclose ourselves to the other person. If we want to love someone they must permit us to know them. " Dr. Sidney M. Jourard 4.2 When young many of us have either being told or discovered our personal English zodiac signs. E.g. Gemini, Libra, Cancer etc... And there were (are) untold number of such books describing our c…

Dear Anon, Usually, if there is a gap between the two buildings, there would be as you had mentioned there can be Sha Qi. However, as your description is not too clear, I can't really provide advise:- 1. When u mentioned your relative's house, is it a landed property? Or an apartment with window or gap in the master bedroom or main door entrance or otherwise? 2. When you mentioned a gap of 50cm of two near by buidings, currently cannot visualise what are their position in relation to your relative's home. Perhaps, you can provide a sketch to this. 3. However, if one stands at the gap and find gushes of air `forced' thru this into your relatives' home, then this can be sha…

Dear Anon, Frankly, there is not much that can be done via Kua (Eight House). For example, if a house is unsuitable, it is unsuitable for the breadwinner. The only cure(s) are usually physical. For example, either changing of rooms that suit us to even relocating the main entrance to face a favourable angle of the owner. In many of the previous postings, I mentioned that Feng Shui is all about improving one's luck. Thus, you may like to further explore your home: Learn whether your home has good or not so good Shapes and Forms. If possible, try to apply Shapes and Forms. You may also like to look at Flying Star Feng Shui. As mentioned above, taking such steps is like try…

Dear Evelyn, Thanks for your sketch. From the look of it, it seems that your main door opens directly to the balcony. Can I confirm whether is there a straight path of `air' flowing from the main door directly out to the balcony? Or do you have a screen or partition. If this is the case, it is more important to get a screen rather than to get a dragon. Even if one wants to use a dragon figurine, it should be on a wall, facing out of the house e.g. thru an opening such as a window. It must not be allowed to faced a blank wall. Yes, a dragon figurine can help improve on yang qi in the house but, caution about where to place it. It should preferably not also be placed inside…

Dear Hoa Luong, Please see below:- From your initial description, it seems not as auspicious. If this is an existing house; try to find out (probe) further, the reason for the existing owners wanting to sell it. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Feng Shui is all about maximizing one's luck. If one use it correctly or use a combination of the various tools / principles / concepts correctly, it would help to boost luck in majority of areas. Thus, reducing the percentage of `inauspiciousness' at the main door. Although a house has to fit the owners /breadwinner/tenant, if one has already stayed in it or made a commitment in it already, there is not much one can do here but as mentioned in the earlier paragrah to try and maximize luck in other areas. In authentic Feng Shui, there are two ways about placing a water feature outside of the house:- 1.1 Under the conference: Phot…

Dear Susan, Frankly, looking at one `idea' in Feng Shui or using it to audit a house may not provide the full picture. In your case, try to apply: 1. Shapes and Forms 2. Compass Schools: e.g. Eight House - not only the main door but bedrooms for each family members. There are more e.g. looking at one's Ba Zi to harmonise with the home e.g. for an individual such as a weak water person such as white walls. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Soon Hoe, Yes, in my opinion, it is best not to place a painting with many birds facing the dining table. This is symbollic of too many mouths to feed. Even if they are cranes. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carlos, 1. Usually, if one does not use Feng Shui, go with one's intution. 2. Under Feng Shui, there are considerations like e.g. the compass direction of the location to consider. 3 Here, this is usually referenced with the flying star influence of a specific sector. For example, if the ktichen so happens to have bad wood #4 with say additional #1 watercoupled with the location of the kitchen at the north. Too much green (wood) would not be beneficial as water helps fuel more of bad wood. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Susan, For a stove, it is equally inauspicious if a water pipe runs directly (below) the stove especially if it is as close as 6 inches. In such a situation, it is best to divert the water pipe away from the stove so that it does not directly cross path with the stove. Where possible, the water pipe you mentioned should be `hidden' from view of the stove especially if this sector is the North of the house. If the location of the kitchen is at the South of the house i.e. standing at the centre and the kitchen is at the south, there is no issue with it facing the washing machine. Frankly, with regards to the washing machine, this is quite new to Feng Shui, and in my op…

Dear Jen, It is best to go for clay coloured roof tiles or even red/maroon. There was once, a client who used to have clay coloured roof tiles. Because of the numerous leaves that had fallen on the roof, and algae growth on it, the roof `turned' greenish. Fortunately, this house `looks like a crab' or has a profile of a crab. The owners became very successfully and prospherous. However, the owners subsequently got the roof cleaned and things was not the same again. The green algae grown is akin or symbollic of `wealth accumulation'. Overall, locally and overseas, it is common to find green roof tiles especially for temples. For a house tht has e.g. blue or grey roofs; blu…

Dear Anon, 1. Thank you for the description of the condo. 2. Your situation seems rather unique. 3. Frankly, there is no current reference to your situation i.e. whether it is good or bad Feng Shui to have an interior that is distinctively sloping. 4. The only parallel to your situation is that some Feng Shui practitioners have advised their clients to get their contractor doing the flooring to gently slope the floor in the living room i.e. from from the main door down towards the middle of the room. This is not obvious to the household. 5. The purpose is literally, with the hope to `catch' wealth. 6. In my opinion, this is just an idea and from past observations e.g. o…

Dear Hoa Luong, 1. Besides Shapes and Form Feng Shui, the other form of Feng Shui is the Compass School Feng Shui. 2. In this aspect, the Compass School Feng Shui consists of both Eight House and Flying Star Feng Shui. 3. Usually, when applying Feng Shui, as mentioned earlier, both Shapes and Forms and the two compass schools i.e. Eight House and Flying Star Feng Shui is used. And usually and for practical reasons, how suitable the hosue is to a person (in general) should be based on e.g. the Eight House. 4. After having covered all the above points of consideration under Feng Shui i.e. Shapes and Forms and Compass School; we often then use Ba Zi for the interior of the h…

Dear Anon, Is it possible for you to sketch your layout plan using a paint program and attach as either e.g. .gif or .jpg as it is quite difficult to understand the text sketch although you had taken much time in drawing it. This was the reason, I opened your message several times, wanted to review your message but could not comprehen with the lack of a proper layout sketch. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Phil, It is quite common to have staircase(s) close to the centre of the house. So far, if one read thru the messages under this forum, there is no direct issue of a staircase at the middle of the house. Usually, if there is a problem, it is due to multiple issues. For a staircase, however, it is preferred that the steps are covered e.g. no opening or hollow between each steps. A mirror can also be used at the staircase landing to direct flow of Qi. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Based on what you had mentioned, the newly insatlled lamp post does not seem to be a threat. A threat is where, if one stands at the window or door and looks outwards directly ... and if it slices into the house, this may be a problem for those staying there. Usually, if there is a `leak' in the house, it may not necessarily come from the `L' shape house. As `L' shaped houses need not necessarily be affected in this way. Most probably, there are other leaks in your home. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Sio Cheng, 1. It is not advisable to place a fish tank in a bedroom based usually on `commonsense approach' be it Feng Shui or otherwise: 1. As a bedroom is usually suppose to be a place of rest or `yin location'. 2. The other situation is that if the bedroom is not well ventilated, a medium sized fish tank may need e.g. weekly cleaning or maintenance - depending on the type of food given to the fish -- where the fish tank may need to be cleaned. Since you are only placing a small fish tank, perhaps, more like a bowl, there should not be much of a problem. If it is well maintained - clean and not much `fishy' smell coming from it. Warmest Regards, Cecil
