Dear Cecil, My bedroom door is not facing my mom's door. In this case, can I hang or place anything in my bedroom so that my mom doesn't get angry with me so easily? BTW, she only gets angry or furious with me and not with other 3 children. I'm the 2nd daughter, with an elder sister and 2 younger brothers. I think it's the Chinese culture where the second daughter is born to be hated. My last hope is Feng Shui. Please advise.

Dear Anon, 1. Often, before, we buy an object (of decoration) for the house, we would most probally searh our `minds' or (visualise) roughly where we want to place it. 2. We should ask ourselves, what is our `motive' of buying e.g. a metal windchime (4 rods) - hollow or solid. If it is for decoration in the home, as mentioned under Para 1, we normally should have some idea where we want to place it. But if it is for the purpose of trying to boost the luck.. frankly, I do not know when to begin .. especially, if it is like a `pot-luck' session and question asked is North South-East. 3. I would have to say that a 4 rod metal windchime is not a normal Traditional Feng Shui c…

Dear Martha, 1. Usually, this applies to a completed house and after the owners have moved-in and stayed in the home. 2. To clarify, although North and South are recommended to be avoided; it is not that the Grand Duke is situated in the South. But rather, the Grand Duke will be situated at the North. 3. Where North = Rat animal sign which also represents the water element. Since Rat (North) and Horse (South) which is represented by Fire element are considered incompatible i.e. Water vs Fire, South is called the position of conflict with North. 4. And in this situation, it is how, was derived North (Grand Duke) and South (Position of conflict). 5. For a new home, one can…

Dear Tammie, 1. You can go the Free report tools at http://myfengshui.geomancy.net to use the Free Flying Star report. 2. Before you do this, you need to find out exactly what degree is your main entrance door direction. 3. You can use this site to find out exactly how to find the compass direction:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-cecilcompass.htm 4. Under the Free Flying Star House Report, it will tell you all the problem areas (if any). You can find out from the report whether there is any inauspicious sectors here. Usually if that sector is inauspicious, majority of the time, there is most likely an imbalance caused by bad earth or bad wood. In some of th…

Dear Alan, Thank for your description of the situation. 1. Try to see if you can apply (if possible) this concept: " If it no longer can be seen, it will no longer be a threat ". 2. At the balcony, day curtains would be useful (for brightness). Or, reflective sun-X protection on glass panels (especially) on sliding panels or windows that you do not often open. 3. Since the protusion is of the Metal element, Red (fire element) can be used to `control' it (only). 4. If you or your family are Christians or Catholics, if the sha qi is distinct, then use a flat circular mirror above the balcony and/or the main door. As both the balcony (considered as the frontage) and the ma…

Dear Alan, 1. Yes, the arowana fish is popular as it can be quite expensive. 2. Usually, such fish (which if taken care properly) can grow reasonably large). 3. The Yin and Yang concept: How many fish to rear? More often, 1 (lonely) arowana is reared in a fish tank. 4. This is usually the common practise and in line with the Yin / Yang concept. Where, Yin = equal numbers and Yang = odd numbers. 5. Thus, ideally, 1 arowana fish is reared in the fish tank. Here, since water is considered Yin, the 1 (odd) number fish is considered Yang. There is thus a balance of Yin and Yang in this situation. 6. This also applies to other fishes reared. If one takes into consideration the …

Dear Anon, For kitchen `Feng Shui', there are several `rule-sets' or guidelines: 1. Where possible, the fire stove should face inwards (into the house). This implies that there is `warmth' in the house. 2. Under Shapes and Form Feng Shui, it is not as good if the stove face outwards of the house. 3. Where possible, the stove, should be an auspicious sector - for the `women' of the house. But since you are a Male and if you are living alone - it should (preferably) still be located at an auspicious sector. 4. If there is no ventilation hood and if there is a ceiling beam that presses against the stove, this is inauspicious. 5. It is equally inauspicious if an exposed water…

Dear Angela, 1. The Eight House Theory is useful to find a suitable house or locate a favourable sleeping postition. 2. It is a static theory and usine Gua (Kua) to analyse or trouble-shoot problems is not ideal as it is usually ineffective. Since it does not take into consideration, time dimension in Feng Shui. 3. For purposes of troubleshooting or analysing obstacles, it is very difficult to generalise problems or fix them. For such situations, consult a competent FS practitioner in most instances or apply more advanced Feng Shui methods. 4. At your end, you can do initial check whether your home (may be) under any threat from the external. By standing at the main ent…

Dear Stella, 1. If you are refering to The Eight House Theory or East/West Group of persons, then here are the steps to better understand the theory:- 1.1 What is the purpose of this theory? 1.2 What is the strength and weakness of this theory. In several of the recent forum messages, I have touched on Para 1.1 and 1.2 on this theory. 2. Overall, this theory simply implies that: For one to benefit from it: One has to spent more time at this location. Thus, it usually applies more (so) if we are looking or house hunting and finding out which house is more suitable for us and in particular what intangible influence it has at locations where we spent time at e.g. the bedroo…

Dear Kieren, In my opinion, what you mentioned is the wrong direction to take in auditing a home. What you mentioned suggests that Feng Shui is akin to using `fixed templates'. For example, it is too general to say that North = Water. Although, that particular sector could be related to Water. But, it does not take into consideration: 1. A person's element and strength i.e. weak wood etc.... There is again a difference if one is e.g. say a weak wood or weak water. 2. If Feng Shui is that simple, and if wealth is so readily available, how is it that no one can yet come up with a book soley about `Wealth'. 3. Unfortunately, there are some books that may give reference to wh…

Dear Kieren, Please see below:- If your main door is Big Earth, then water is wealth not fire element. However, since you are a weak fire person, it can be quite disasterous for you to apply water here. Unlike a strong fire person, water at this position is favourable. But in your case i.e. weak fire (before, you even try to do the above) you will be affected by the repercussions of "water" element at this position e.g. painting the door blue. In your situtation, you can still use a red carpet for two reasons: 1. Red is always considered an auspicious colour 2. The second reason may not be that effective as adding fire to `fire' although is acceptable; it is not as…

Dear Anon, Please see below:- In my opinion, it would be more appropriate for your office to be located at South-West (living room). Looks like North-West is the dining room so may not be appropriate or not as advisable. West is a possibility (2nd choice to SW). But in terms of these three alternatives, SW is still the best. Dear Brenda, 1. From my personal experience, it may not be `worth' the while charting a small mobile home using the Compass School Feng Shui. 2. I hope you do not get me wrong but, for such a `confined' space, dividing the mobile home into e.g. 8 sectors or even 24 sectors may not be feasible as all sectors seems too close to each other. 3. More importantly, one should based the assessment using Shapes and Form School i.e. in particular: looking at the Landscape and the site. 4. For the interior, stand at the main entrance of the mobile (looking outwards) for any visible threats e.g. a lone lamp post slicing the entrance. Use the same method for each of the windows. 5. Fo…

Dear Cecil, Thanks a lot for your reply. My FS element is weak metal( 31st Oct 1956) and my husband's FS elementis weak water( 11th April 1953). Out main door is in 165 degrees. We both belong to west houses. I have read some books and referred to your site. The reading has aroused my interest in FS. Hence I planned to make some changes. But I am afraid to make changes without proper guidance. I cannot afford to go for paid reports as of now. With the help of your site, which is the best site for FS, I have details for my family members. My main interest is to improve our money inflow and career prospects. Now since NW and NE are our properity sector I want activate this…

Dear Chan, Is it possible to attach a simple sketch preferably: 1. The layout plan (it can be a rough one) 2. A sketch of the `bigger' picture i.e. the plot of land in relation to the location of the fire station; roads, neigbhouring houses etc.. In my opinion, it is best to understand the above, properly before I can comment further. (For Para 2, if not a sketch, perhaps can elaborate more about): How high is the property you intend to purchase, where is the ^ `pointed' roof shape `pointed to'. How high is the fire station. What is the distance between it and your house (is there any road between) and whether are there plants / trees in the house compound? If there is a…

Dear Judy, Thanks for the picture of the layout plan. 1. Yes, you can use an ordinary compass. 2. In the past, I had investigated many years back the `long houses' especially in parts of East Malaysia. These long houses, even when they were made of wood had unusual compass readings where the readings internally vary in different compartments. 3. I hope you don't mind if you can: 3.1 Go to a barren land or an open space near to your home. And take a compass reading perhaps from different areas. (Becareful of some open space as it may be littered with (hidden) such as thrown away metal etc... 3.2 Goto the different "compartment" and take the compass reading to check if the…

My advise is to find out: 2.1 What is the PURPOSE of each concept or theory 2.2 What are it's weakness and strengths? If one is aware of these two questions, one would be able to understand better the various concepts. 3. The Eight Aspirations/Life Associations concept. 3.1 Purpose?: It is to understand that each Gua (Kua) or each trigram is associated with a `life association'. Such as the Gua tigram at North is associated with `Career'. 3.2 What is it's strengths? Unfortunately, it's streng…

Dear Anil, 1. For the sector, if it is out of balance, then #5 and #2 should be cured. Before this, it is looking at the three Mountain #, Water # and Base # together. 2. Applying the concept of " If one cannot see it; it no longer becomes a threat ". In such a situation, you may want to use e.g. day curtain to solve the problem. But if you prefer to open the curtain; one good remedy is the use of Two forks: Please see the attached illustration below. (Note: for those who participate thru this forum using mailing list, you may have to log in to the forum to view this graphic as all attachments are not sent thru the mailing list option.) Dear Wasis, 1. You asked a very interesting question. 2. For those who have studied Management subjects: the term " Situational Approach " or " It Depends ". What this means is that it is felt that not two cases are the same. We have to depend on the situation and each situation may vary. Please see below:- To cure #5, #2, #4 and #5; the MOST EFFECTIVE cure is BIG METAL. For #5, (STRONG METAL) it is a " bad, bad boy" and the best cure is to use a 6 rod, metal windchime. For #3, (STRONG WOOD) it is also highly recommended to use the constant chime 6 rod wind chime (symbolically) to `hammer' it like akin to constantly smashing it. Similarily, moving metal such as 6 rod…

Dear Wendy, 1. In my opinion, it is too general to say that since the door is at SW, we should paint it according to the colour. 2. In THEORY or technically speaking, you can do that. 3. But the question here is what do one try to achieve? 4. In many questions asked, Thank God!, that nowadays, many users no longer ask me this one line question like: Where is my wealth sector? Which I do not reply to at all. 5. This is very relevant to the above question. If we use the Five Elements concept to explain wealth. 6. Dear Donna, Apologise, but if you can provide a rough sketch which includes: 1. Location of : main gate; from the gate to the main entrance. Or photo (nice to have) 2. Where is the main door and a sketch of the outline of the house and what is on each side and back of the house. I hope u can understand that no two homes may be similar and I personally feel, the more the detail provided, the better it is to have a better understanding of your situation. Dear Sor Lan, 1. What you had mentioned is a popular practise by the Cantonese dialect group. This popularity is based on the belief as what you had mentioned; that a mirror used in the hope that it can reflect `double' the luck. 2. We can (on a less scientific level) base it on feelings. However, if one uses more scientific methods such as The Flying Star Fen g Shui, where one uses it to determine if a sector is auspicious or not. If it is inauspicious, then, it is strongly felt that one should not place a mirror at that sector or we may inadvertenly bounce back twice the bad luck. Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee

Dear Anon Please see attached sketch for a better understanding of a poison arrow aimed at the main door. Apologies for the rough sketch. Just look at the concept. Here there are two issues: 1. the narrow corridor where the lift faces the main door. This is Sha Qi and can be cured with two plants placed strategically at the location. 2. I did not properly draw the angle at which the corridor aims at the main door but if it does it is a poison arrow. Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee
