Seek General Advice from Master Cecil Lee

  1. Started by jezzy,

Dear Jez, The ancient coins `tied together' to represent a `symbolic' sword should not be placed at the entrance especially one where it faces the main entrance door. This is bad feng shui. This situation is also very similar to someone hanging a painting of a hungry animal e.g. a tiger. This is symbolic of it's mouth being `open' and will cause problems for the household. Similiarly, one should NEVER hang a pakua in the house as it is equally bad. As the sword represents a `cutting' edge, it is suppose to `cut' away all your luck and bad. Hope that helps. Cecil Lee

Dear Chris, There are two considerations under "Feng Shui" i.e. 1. Symbolism under Shapes and Forms FS 2. Commonsense approach to Feng Shui 1. Under Symbolism in Feng Shui, it is considered a disadvantage to have a knife or sword hanging or placed or displayed in the living room. As this is symbolic of quarrels or disharmony. 2. Under Commonsense approach Just like guns with live bullets lying in the home. This can be assessed wrongly by young children or a parent or family member who is quick tempered or used by intruders into a home. Generally, as you had mentioned, it is best to keep or display the sword in a specific room e.g. your study room. And if possible, …

Dear Pamela, 1. What you brought up is quite an interesting subject. 2. Most of the time, if you had sought advise from Feng Shui practitioners, it seems that it is always a `No-no' to place swords. 3. Because symbollically it has sharp edges and for two reasons:- Commonsense approach -------------------- It is like having a loaded gun in the house. Especially with children around - may perhaps be considered safer, placing it away from them. E.g. in locked glass shelves. The sharp edges of the swords ----------------------------- Usually, this is not preferred as it symbolises disharmony. 4. Given the two, I would prefer to look at it from a commonsense approach as it ma…

Dear Carrie, So far, I have found that there are at least 4 ways of interepreting the four symbolic animals concept. The two most common ones are: 1. What you referred to the north/south where the mountain is at the north/back is based on the "China" concept. This is where in China, the cold winds blows from the North and most of the houses do not have windows or doors at the north/back of the house. This is also where the dust from the north blows. Here, in senario 1, the is the reason why north is = back of the house. While South is e.g. the facing direction of the house. 2. In general, if you can forget about Para 1, then:- - Facing direction should be clear space or b…

  5. An extract from this thread:- " 4. Thus, if you can or may do all the things; but also sleep one night (or place a set of both partner's night clothing on each side of the bed) and also try to cook (and if can bathe, sleep and cook) would be an added bonus before the 7th month." P.S. Chinese 7th Month (Hungry Ghost Period):-===================================== 31 Jul 2011 (Sun) = 2011, 7th month, 1 day to 28 Aug 2011 (Sun) = 2011, 7th month, 29 day

Dear Dragana, Please see below:- Given this senario, often, when one visits a so called Feng Shui website, they always sell such (commercial) things. The only difference I find between the Mandarin ducks vs the three legged toad is that: perhaps, the pair of mandarin ducks appeal more to westerners. While many Chinese: in Singapore, many of the lower (middle) income Chinese e.g. living in three or four room flats have such a three legged toad. All these are fool hardy, given that the money goes into the pocket of the seller. Frankly, should treat all these as decoration. If one likes say a painting, it can be pleasing to one's eyes. In fact, most of the material …

However, this house is situated on the end of a T intersection and faces a short cul de sac street with 6 to 8 houses. Is this a bad homefor feng shui purposes. The original owner built the house but does not want to live in it per the advise of their feng shui advisor. I can send yousome pictures if needed. I am hesitant about renting the house because my father is in poor health and I don't want this to further affect health if he moves into the house. It is best if you can look for another house. As it is never a good house if it is at the end of T intersection and faces a sho…

  9. Started by sonny,

Dear Phyu Phyu, Based on your description, it looks like if your house is much higher than the back, usually it is not affected by the dead end. In addition if you have bushes inbetween the house and the dead end. With `proper care' of the slope to avoid soil erosion is ideal. In my opinion, you need not do anything at this stage. However, if there are sufficient lighting (external) this would be great. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  10. These are some of the considerations:- 1. Feng Shui and Commonsense. 2. Yes, you are already aware that under Feng Shui; a home at a"T-junction" is unfortunately, not the best choice. 3. However, it also depends on things like: 3.1. How fast the vehicles can or may travel on such a road and it also depends on Right-hand-drive (RHD) or Left-hand-drive (LHD) road. As the way, the vehicle turn-in and out of the T-junction also applies. 3.2. For example, when we stand at the front gate area of the home. How "fast" and whether does vehicles are "aimed" towards your property before it turns is another consideration. Here, under commonsense; we hope that sincerely; one…

Dear Master Cecil, Once again thanks for the information provided. About the internal well its a big gamble so long as the exterior can be remedied at least there is a chance. Its no point if the exterior is a lost case and one were to purchase the property. Interior well only god knows and if only money grows on tree then there wouldn't be any problem as renovation could be done. Am only a salaried worker so hope that the business aspect would not have too much trouble for me or my partner. There is surely a drainage behind the property and if I am not mistaken its not too big... just a small drain and both the sides (back lane) are lock. If one were to open the door at…

Dear JE, A sketch would be good to better understand the situation. However, based on your description: to me it seems ok since: 1. the stairs do not face the main entrance. 2. in Feng Shui, a straight staircase is not that good. But it looks like you mentioned that there are some turns or landing. If so, this is favourable under Feng Shui. To me, your staircase, therefore, don't seem to be a major issue under Feng Shui. Warmest Regards, Cecil

  14. Started by myfs_155372,

Sorry, I have transferred your case study to the Feng Shui Tips Conference as I had replied extensively based on Common sense Feng Shui. That forum conference is locked and members cannot post there. Again, please check out the earlier link. The critical clue was that house Y has more to worry in terms of a T-junction. And often only a so called "fluke" accident could a runaway amok vehicle penetrate towards house "X". You should be using the above example. I have seen only matured curry trees that were planted into the ground that grows reasonable size. In my opinion, most probably the existing owners planted it for the curry leaves. What is a garden without some type…

    1. Yes, if the tree is exactly at the front door; it is symbolic of a "butter" knife slicing your main door. 2. Good news or bad news? If the tree is relatively young i.e. not taller than 1 metre, there is some reprieve for the immediate. Wait until it grows taller, thicker than it becomes a real threat! 3. Last resort? One "noisy" option is to hang a wind chime at the frontage - in-front of the main door. Another alternative option is placing a concave mirror above the main door. 4. As you had mentioned, Para 3 need not happen if the tree does not appear, ..there....

Dear Master Cecil Lee My current work desk direction in office is not favourable. I am seated facing North-East 35 degrees. Based on the design of the room, there is no way to shift the angle too much and shifting to north will make the table look awkward to anyone that passes by. Do you have advise for me?

  17. Started by myfs_40805,

Dear Reuben, This link has several hand sketched pictures which I drew of table layout positions. http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagesearch.cgi?img=0&search=office+table&cat=all&x=26&y=11 Please click on the thumbnail view of the pictures for a larger image. Warmest Regards, Cecil

    1. Yes a water position should be turned on 24-7. Other things like lights etc need not be 24 hours. 2. Commonsense approach is that if pump is not 24 hours may cause mosquito to breed. 3. Best to apply Flying Star Feng Shui, instead of applying kindergarten Feng Shui to placing a water position. 4. Frankly a small water feature is more of a play thing than Feng Shui thus not so effective!

  19. Started by dovie,

Dear Dovie, One way of looking at things is: " I see, I like, I buy". If you find the tabletop water-point, nice, you can go ahead and purchase it. The above is based on `feelings' and intuition as opposed to the more complex analysis that one may do based on Traditional FS such as Flying Star (to check that a water position at a specific sector is acceptable or one's element and strength is suited to the above.) Hi, Is there a way to appease the tai sui and the three sha if you accidentally disturbed them? thanks.

  21. Started by myfs_100950,

Dear Robert Lee As one have to avoid facing Tai Sui either to place bed or sitting. Should I place my bed facing my good sctor or to avoid facing my good sector as to avoid facing Tai Sui. If I were to place my bed face my good sector in another word my bed is facing Tai Sui. If I place my bed in an inauspicious sector which mean avoiding facing Tai Sui. Which is the best solution. Thank as always with regards Sophia Chia

Dear Anon, In general, overall, it is said that the Rat would not have as good year in the Year of the Horse. Chinese Astrology, frankly (in my opinion) is too simplistic as many take into account only the YEAR of birth. Posters are man-made. Perhaps, it is to encourage the offering of prayers (with or without substance) - erh..my opinion only. Perhaps, to me, I draw a parallel to a poster that says " Brushing teeth to prevent decay ". And children in school do so together. Frankly, I do not see any harm since physcially at home; Grand Duke has not been distrubed or touched in any way. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Forum Users, Usually, under conditions of YIN, there may be " playfull imps " or spirits. They usually mean no harm to anyone but can bad cause "nightmares." Medium sized to large trees plus additional things like a wind chime may increase the YIN at such locations and attract such playfull imps to be around. Too many concentration of trees are considered a too YIN environment. For the benefit of new members here, my next door neighbour's bungalow has at least a minimum of 5 or more wind chimes located at the West or YIN location. This means that the likelyhood that one can get `mental problems'. True enough, this next door neighbour always carry around a video camer…

Dear Carrie, 1. If one uses the ordinary compass, one should not be concerned about `holding' the compass at the North or South. What one needs to do is to take a compass reading from the centre-point of the house towards the main door. One should thus take the compass reading from the compass. 2. Your confusion will arise only if one uses the Chinese Luopan i.e. the compass needle is marked `from South to North' i.e. completely reversed from the ordinary compass. So the question asked is are you using a Chinese Luopan? 1. If no, there is no longer an issue here. 2. If you are using a Chinese Luopan, make sure you know how to use it first. Warmest Regards, Cecil
