Dear Anon, 1. Some `Western Traditional' School of Feng Shui particularly those who practise Flying Star Theory have concern about the rotation of a metallic fan. To them, it circulates metal and their concern is that if a sector is out of balance and if metal is the catalyst, this is a `concern'. 2. In my opinion, looking at the commonsense approach to Feng Shui: Nowadays, many fans no longer have metal blades. And even if the blades are metallic does not mean that it generates `metal'. In view of the above, I personally feel that there should not be any cause for concern over the use of fans. I believe that they are a cheap and economical method of cooling a house. Th…

Dear Cheui May, Please see below:- It is difficult to solve a `poison' arrow aimed at the bed. Usually, if the `corner' is aimed at the feet, this is still ok. As for the use of wind chime, it is quite difficult to hang it. Even if you hang it, you may have to hang it at the level `between' you and the `corner'. Since your bedroom is quite big, the option is if you have any simple `partition' that can be placed standing like those `standees' would be acceptable. Otherwise, frankly, at the moment think of any thing that can neutralise the corner without looking odd or sound `practical' or feasible. Warmest Regards, Cecil Yes, this layout is not good. The only thin…

Dear Carina, Where possible, place plants especially on both sides of the balcony. If the plants flower this would be `great.' For cactus, you can still place them in the balcony. Although it has been frequently mentioned that it is not auspicious to do so. Do so, if you really liked them else, where possible (in my opinion) try not to `use' them if you can. For a balcony, so long as it is within the house, it can be considered in the living area especially if you have sliding doors and immediately get to see it. Frankly, placing cactus is quite a subjective issue. For some people who are not aware of Feng Shui, in my opinion, so far, I do not see any ill effects on them…

Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, I share the same view as what you had mentioned. 2. Based on observations, I do notice that many Chinese do not display deities like Kwan Imm in closed display shelfs. 3. This is like `imprisoning' the deity. 4. In some of the earlier replies, I have also mentioned:- 4.1. Do not place the statue in the bedroom or on the same wall as the toilet. 4.2. I have not mentioned this but some believers or Feng Shui practitioners do not advise that the statute be placed facing the main entrance door. To these practitioners or believers, it is to them, `disrespectful' to `employ' or `misuse' deities to "guard" your main door. Well, the above are some of…

Dear H Kt, 1. Thank you for sharing with us the confusion that arises with wind chimes. Plus the various types of wind chimes. 2. Furthermore, there are so many books written on how `effective' it can be used to enhance our lifes. 3. Generally, in life, we should not have any taboos i.e. if we happen to see something we really like go ahead and get it. However, the `confusion' arise usually, when we INTEND to purchase e.g. the wind chime for the sake of improving our luck etc... 4. Here, more often, we may want to purchase more than 1 wind chime or on the advise of some Feng Shui practitioners, place wind chimes at several locations. In my opinion, I have encountered many…

Hi all, As mention by cecil, a triangle plot of land is inauspicious. Since there are so many plot of triangle land around, What can we do with it? A plot of triangle land may represend the fire element ....so i think a hawker stall area will be good. Since there will be a lot of fire due to the cooking around. Just my point of view. any comments? Steven

Dear Kaushal, 1. Salt is commonly used more in western countries or `western' practitioners (not necessary FS practitioners). 2. You can certainly try using salt although it is not `proven' or used widely in Traditional Feng Shui. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kaushal, There is no evidence to suggest that it is harmful to keep `junk' especially in the storeroom. However, it would certainly be `nice' if clutter could be cleared (if possible). Thus the above is `secondary'. More important factors in Feng Shui should be considered such as good Shapes and Form etc.. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mark, Please see below:- If you want to do an audit, there are available online tools available. Alternatively, all users are open to hiring a FS consultant if they want to. But please do not sent me a floor plan with dates of birth and expect me to do all the ground work. My main purpose is to help users in the recommendations and analysis. It is best to get all things correct in Feng Shui than just figuring where your wealth area is. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Daniel, 1. The concept: "If one cannot see it, it no longer becomes a threat." applies here. 2. What you basically need to do is to protect your `windows' and the `back door'. What you need to do, is to; if you have a window or back door, stand inside the house facing outwards. If the poison arrow cuts thru or can be seen pointed into the house, this is where the house `becomes' vulnerable. Should there be poison arrows aimed at a window, you can resort to use a thicker curtain or close the windows. For the backdoor, close it when not in use. This is how, we should `protect' our house. Those areas that allow poison arrows to `fly' in. The same should be done to chec…

Dear Anon, 1. Most of the time, Hong Kong practitioners use the Fish Tank (with goldfish) to neutralise sha qi. Such as to neutralise a lamp post which is considered the wood element (Because if one imagine a tree, it is tall and thin like a lamp post. 2. Usually, most of the practitioners should have an understanding of Flying Star theory. If so, they should be able to advise their clients whether or not, rocks (earth) may or may not be detrimental to a sector. 3. So they should be able to advise their clients when not to place rocks = earth at certain sectors. Because earth, if placed in a `Big Earth' or also called 5 yellow (because Big Earth = 5 and earth is yellow)…

Dear "UnKnown", 1. Usually, the placement of a water positions at certain locations, need further analysis (if possible). 2. Placing a water position can be analysed under: 2.1 Is there a poison arrow? As mentioned in previous messages, Hong Kong Feng Shui practitioners have a `habit' of advising their clients to place a fish tank e.g. at a window to counteract a poison arrow or Sha Qi of e.g. a lone lamp post. This is to neutralise the Sha Qi. 2.2 To `activate' water star or enhance Qi. Such as the use of fountains or water positions. Here, some Feng Shui practitioners either:- - Use their `feelings' to suggest a location. (Closer to the Shapes and Form School) - Others …

Dear Kathleen, 1. Frankly, Feng Shui is never meant to be used as a marketing tool. 2. The only think that Feng Shui can help is that if the house has good Feng Shui attributes, and if the buyer can be `convinced' that it has good Feng Shui for them, this would be an added advantage. 3. Some Feng Shui practitioners who use basic or elementary Feng Shui, would suggest one paint the main door Red or pink. To them, they feel that it would hasten the sale of the house. In my opinion, there is no proof that it would work. Worse, as the first impression counts, a red or pink door may even be a turn off for some people. (The rational for pink or red is the belief that red or pi…

Dear Anon, 1. When we consider water, water in a fish tank is usually slower moving. 2. While a fountain, stirs up the water and faster moving. 3. There is no concrete measure as to how beneificial `qi' if any from a fountain or fish tank is. 4. But, based on Feng Shui concepts, because, water movement e.g. water flow, mixed with `air' is more vibrant and faster moving. 5. Based on the `faster' moving water, it is thus recommended that between having a fountain or a fish tank, a fountain would be considered having a higher potential of generating `qi' or stirring of the air, mixed with water. 6. When one talks about a fountain or even an artificial waterfall, it is not …

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Water need not be running underground but if it is due to leaks which causes `invisible vapours', there is some cause and concern. It is the `vapours' that one should be more concerned of. Thus vapour, either from underground or leaks that cause the ground to become damp, is said to release `vapours' although, it may not be seen by the naked eye. Apologies, I do not know of any. Yes, you can sent a scanned layout of where the dampness is. But, it may not be totally possible to see how far it spread. However, it is still best to determine where the leak occurs and if possible, seal it. If not, try to, if you can, sleep in a locati…

(Note: For those who have not seen a `Tiger balm' medicated oil, check out this link: http://www.tigerbalm.com ) According to the description of this external medicine, it is used for the symptomatic relief of muscular aches and pains, sprains, insect bites, itching, headache. It is gently rubbed on affected parts. It contains: mehtnol, campor, mint old, clove oil, cajuput oil and paraffin. No, there is no evidence to suggest that carrying the tiger balm is `detriment' to luck. In addition, most of the time, it is kept in the bag and I do not anyone carrying it out openly in their hands. Warmest Regards, Cecil

This link is useful on "Bau-bologie". Which is the Germany study `similiar' with Feng Shui:- http://www.bau-biologieusa.com/ Quote and Credit from the above site:- What is Bau-biologie? Dear Anon, 1. I understand proper understanding of Feng Shui can be quite confusing. 2. As it is there are authentic Feng Shui theories and many others generated by modern man. 3. Even when we talk about authentic Feng Shui, some can work for MOST of us, some can work for only a FEW people. Others, sounds sensible but may not work all the time. 4. Faced with such a situation, what should we do if we want to continue to apply Feng Shui? 5. The most sensible approach is to: 5.1. Try to apply the theories or concepts that works best for most people. Here, one has to discern and read up. As there are already a huge resources of geninue questions posted and replied on. For th…

Dear Carol, Please see below:- A warm welcome to you:) The application of Feng Shui depends on the following:- 1. Ranking and priorities. For example doors facing each other is `secondary importance.' Same goes for a rotating fan. 2. If one wants to apply Feng Shui, it is not a `direct' application. 3. It also does not involve only one concept or theory. But a multitude of theories and concept such as: 3.1 Shapes and Form. 3.2 Compass Schools - Eight house and Flying Star. 3.3 Pillars of Destiny (element and its strength). 4. Many people believe that `Fast Food' Feng Shui is the way to go. They go buy a few books on Feng Shui. Not only do they buy the books, they …

Dear Corinne, 1. The rooster, with its distinctive red crown, could perhaps be thought off by some practitioners as belonging to the fire element. 2. Alternatively, it could also be thought off as a metal element because its sector is West or (Metal element). 3. Frankly, there is no evidence to suggest that a picture of a rooster would be effective to stop the `burring of wealth'. If you like or enjoy the picture, you may consider to place it. 4. But, some Feng Shui practitioners caution that the `rooster' symbolises `fighting cocks'. It is common even till today to see rooster matches and gambling to see which rooster wins. Some of the matches are quite cruel because th…

Dear John, This question is quite subjective. This is because, from the years of meeting people or hearing feedback, some of us are more tolerant than others. While some people are more sensitive i.e. they feel uncomfortable sleeping with a mirror facing their face or body. Some others, said that they sleep soundly and peacefully. http://www.geomancy.net/polls/index.htm You can check out the results of the survey: Are you comfortable sleeping facing a TV set (mirror)? A short simple 3 questions survey. in the above link to find out user's responses to this question. Each of us, thus may need to make their own judgement as to whether it is true (if possible based on our ow…
