Dear Anon, Frankly, there is no harm in placing a cross on your door. Often, when we read about Feng Shui, often it is not good to have two doors directly facing each other. This is because, there may be a possibility or a high probability of logger-heads between the two parties. For example, small things such as shoes strewn along the main enterance or noise coming from the neighbour. Even uneasyness of lack of privacy if both parties open their doors is considered unfavourable. Given all these, there is therefore a high chance of neighours being irritated with each other. A Lose-Lose situation? A lose-lose situation is when each party view the other with concern. For e…

Dear Colleen, This has to do with beliefs than Feng Shui. Sometimes it is what we want to believe and if one is `convinced' that it will work, then no harm trying. But for those who have doubts in whether it can or cannot work, it is more of " psychology " or of the mind. If we do not feel good in the first place, than, in my opinion, it usually would not work. Take the case of a FS author asking readers to place 3 coins in their accounts book. In my opinion, there is really "no harm" placing it in the book. Whether it works or not is another thing:) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carrie, In my opinion, a mirror may not be effective to deflect the `arrow' of the roof line because it will still be pointed against you. The two alternatives are: 1. As mentioned earlier, you need to use a blind or a screen. A white see through curtain is acceptable. 2. Ideally, if you can place one dragon figurine on your table and aim it at the poison arrow. It is best not to use a small cannon piece but this can be pointed at the `arrow' if you cannot find a dragon. But becareful when using the cannon. Do not face it in the path of any other buidings or allow it to be `reflected' back to your home. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cecil, 1) Would Replacing the roof's tile/shingles with new ones change the house period? 2) If I add two new sky lights to my house's roof (right now my roof has none), will that change the house period? Thank you for your response. Hoa

Dear Anon, It is good to use a white primer first. Although it has nothing to do with FS. As long as the colour has been changed; what cannot be seen can no longer `influence' or be used. Therefore, by painting the wall rosy beige, it will be `influnenced' by this colour. Therefore, in my opinion, it does not matter that you have to remove the black paint first. Warmest Regards, Cecil

We just moved in, and our upstairs neighbors are going up and down the stairs all day in front of our window. I would estimate it's about 5 or 6 feet away from our left front window, which is a very large window. It's an apartment building with an unusual layout from the 1960's, and we were lucky to get one of the apartments with larger front windows. However, due to our unfortunate apartment placing in the building (there's 22 units), we both get the stairs - and being a corner unit - we also have people walking by in front of the other, equally sized rightward window as well on their way to the parking lot. The two front windows and front door take up nearly the…

Dear Emily, 1. If you have a sketch, feel free to upload to the forum for confirmation. 2. Often, this is not a major issue since most (former 3-room flats) have their toilets at the `back' of the house) - Usually one attached to the master and the second toilet sharing the same wall and close-by. 3. 4 sets of such toilets does not necessary mean that it is inauspicious. 4. Often, the benefit of the older HDB flats are that it is mostly rectangular - a good shapes and form. As well as the exterior of he building is a `stable' earth element shape. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Good day, Master Cecil! The electric company just placed a post right innfront of our house entrance. It is not directly in front of the main door, but seems to slice through the small peeping window beside the main door. It can also be seen clearly through the big foyer window. Will hanging a crystal chandelier inside the foyer help? Kindly see attached photo. Thank you!

Dear Anil, Weak earth person is the "reverse" of strong earth. For a weak earth person, it is thus favourable for him/her to have Fire and Earth element. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Colleen, There are different levels of "participation" in Feng Shui. It depends on the following: 1. Generally, we can depend on our `feelings' to see where we want to place the prayer bell or 2. Use more scientific methods of Feng Shui such as doing a Flying Star Chart. Here, for example, a report should be able to tell us if it is acceptable to place a prayer bell. The use of method under Para 1 or 2 depends on the individual and your level of FS participation. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jennifer, Thanks for your description. Presently, what you are using is based on "intuitive" Feng Shui. Although it is one way of looking at Feng Shui, at the current moment, without much details about yourself, it is very difficult for me to provide advise on this information. This is because, in traditional FS, analysis must be done with the proper tools of analysis such as the Flying Star and Pillars of Destiny. You can still map out your house using a more general Eight House Theory. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi. Is there any ideal measurement (height, width, base) for ancestral tablets? We are customising one for mum. And looking at 6 inches width for words with a one inch border on each side and a 11.5 inch height and and a 4 inch base.

Dear Colleen, 1. Yes, it is not adviseable to keep fishes in the bedroom. 2. To answer your question as to where to keep fishes, usually, this is looked into in relation to a person's (especially the breadwinner's Ba Zhi) and cross referenced to the Flying Star of each sector. For example, if the breadwinner's Ba Zhi is weak fire, it is best to avoid having a water position in the house. 3. Another area we look at is the Flying Star of each sector. Some sectors may be out of balance and adding water may cause further imbalances. 4. Well not to `scare' you in anyway but one can rely on instincts if Para 2 is not followed i.e. find a location which one feels comfortable ab…

Dear Cc, It depends! There is certainly no universal approach here. In fact, FS practitioners would respond by saying that it depends on the sector:- 1. Yin and Yang balance If the place is kinda dark, e.g. west facing, then a mirror (may) help here. This is based more on intuition or personal feelings. 2. Based on Feng Shui rulesets It is the common understanding that a bad sector may bounce back twice the bad luck. For example, under the Flying Star Theory, if a particular sector is inauspicious or especially if the sector is not properly cured. E.g. sickness sector or misfortune. Then, it could imply that one could inadvertently; a mirror at that specific location may …
