Similar concern:- New home and "Do we need to take note of anything due to my wife pregnancy?" Reply:- 1. Based on general Chinese customs; to avoid moving the existing bed of conception. 2. If you need to move the bed, Mrs must not see the move and later, should not visit the bedroom and see that it is moved. 2.1 The above is the most important Chinese consideration. 3. Thus visiting the new home to collect keys etc.. is a non issue. But, once a while some parents tell their daughter in law cannot do so. etc.. But this is more of the conservative side. 2.2 Also do check with parents. As some parents have additional taboos if any. As different elders have different con…

Dear Jez, Thanks for your reply. I like to share with you what is the rationale for not having a fish tank in the bedrooms. The main reason is that a bedroom is suppose to be a YIN location (or for `peaceful' rest). A fish tank is considered to produce `yang' energy e.g. the fishes swimming in the tank and the air bubbles etc... Similiarly, many Feng Shui Masters also say that plants should not be placed in a bedroom as plants grow and thus produce `yang' energy. For children's room however, it should instead be more `yang' but also should not have fish tank or plants but rather, bright coloured walls, musical instruments, hi-fi etc... You asked the question whether is it…

Dear Anon, This can be a controversial subject. So should I take the GMT timezone into account? Our answer is no. You should not take the GMT timezone (+0800) etc to adjust your date of birth. This is because due to the many simplification in the GMT timezone, it only takes into account a shift in one of the location factor in the world. The more accurate way is to take the timezone in accordance with the moon location. However, for most cases, it is different to provide the actual location where you are born. Thus, if you provide an inaccurate locationfactor, you risk the chance of making the report LESS accurate than NOT adjusting anything at all. As mentioned, the ini…

Hi! Good day! Is a sewer pipe, in the attached photo, running in the ceiling (will be concealed with a wooden plyboard), a bad position or placement in Feng Shui? The bed will be placed below it, though not directly. Please advise? Thanks a lot!

Dear Anon, Thanks for bring up this question. This morning, I have just taken a digital photo of the frontage of the Bank of India with the statues of two lions on both sides of the main entrance. Although, I have not taken a compass reading of the entrance; it is I believe facing South. (Definitely not West). There is no evidence to suggest that lion statues must face West. There are many buildings in Singapore with the lion statues and I do see them at the main entrance of buildings or shop front and again, they are not `West' facing. More importantly they are to be placed at both sides of the main entrance. Once I drawn the map of the location and the direction of the…

Dear Anon, 1. Based on past experience, when the toilet is exactly at the centre point of the home, this already counts as a handicap for the house. 2. From what you’ve described, the toilet does not seem to be located at the centre point, which actually sounds quite positive and generally okay. 3. However, it usually takes two or more major handicaps in a house to bring down the Feng Shui of the home. These often show up as finance or career-related problems first and then gradually build up into other issues, for example with health, marriage, and so on. 4. I always like to emphasise that the main “saving” factor is the external shapes and forms of t…

Dear Carina, 1. At the moment, there isn’t a strict rule that says a mirror can only be placed in the dining room, living room, or toilets. Instead, it’s more helpful to understand the reasons behind these suggestions. 2. The reason mirrors are often placed in the bathroom is that most master bedrooms have an attached bathroom. Because of this, it is advisable to place the mirror above the wash basin rather than in the bedroom area. This is because some of us are more sensitive to having a mirror facing the bed. It is still perfectly fine to place a mirror on the dressing table, as long as it does not directly face the bed. 3. Some of us are not sensitive t…

Dear David, Thank you for sharing the sketch of your home and office space. 1. The large tree outside is still considered a challenge for your main door. You might want to place a ba gua mirror above the door to help deflect its effect. 2. Water position: 2.1 I hope the water feature is not placed on the same wall as the stove, as this is seen as inauspicious. 2.2 Also, if your personal element is weak fire or strong water, having a water feature inside the home can be quite unfavourable. 2.3 If the current water spot falls in an area with bad stars like #3 or #4 (both are negative wood stars), or a mix of them, 2.4 then according to the productive …

Hello, again Several sources have recommended using metal as a "cure" for having the Five-Yellow at my front door, this year (2018). I have ordered a wind chime to place there, but I'm wondering if the steel security door/screen that is already on the door provides the same protection. Thank you!

Dear Debbie, Unfortunately, there are few books on History of Feng Shui:- 1. Dr Evelyn Lip For history, one of the few books are written by Dr Evelyn Lip. So far, she has written three books. You can try to find it out e.g. in the library or do a search at amazon.com 2. Dr Ong-Hean Tatt He wrote a good book on Feng Shui. See below ? For the serious reader or researcher who wants evidence that Feng Shui is for real! You can also check out:- Doctor Stephen Field's FengShui Gate You must visit this site especially if you are doing research on the origins of fengshui. Information for the most part available no where else in English, written and maintained …

Dear Emily, Only if #8 is a Water star, can we best activate it. However, in your question, since #8 = base star, it will have to take on the characteristics of it's personal element i.e. this is suppose to be an auspicious earth element. And on it's own, using water is not a good idea. Since water is like having a "hole to drawn the mountain". Not the kind of idea to do so. In fact, under a Flying star chart, if there is e.g. a base #8 while one of the other stars is a #5, because of Period 8, the #8 is suppose to reign supreme or take precedence over only one #5 in the chart. But if there are two or more #5 with #8 in a sector, than, this may over power #8. For exa…

Dear Anon, 1. Yes, it is good feng shui to have the kitchen share an external wall. 2. It can be the wash basin. 3. `Rooms' that do not share an external wall would imply that they are somewhere in the interior of the house (not necessary centrepoint) but somewhere in the `interior'. This applies to other `four walled' rooms such as a bedroom. Warmest Regards, Cecil
