Want to know about the basic Feng Shui elements that could be brought into an apartment. I recently purchased one of the east-facing flats in Tambaram and I want to adorn it with hanging elements, towers, and statues of Feng Shui. Please suggest me good ideas.

Dear Anon, If you just do a search, you can find my article on guidelines for the kitchen:- You can go to: Tips For The Kitchen Posted in: Info :: Feng Shui Tips & Guidelines Posted on: Sun, 01 Aug 2004, 06:06 AM And read the above article. In fact, toilet guidelines does exist. In general, where possible, try to have at least one wall of the toilet sharing an external wall. If the house has more than one storey, try not to have the toilet bowl (on the second storey) just above the main entrance door. In addition, for other toilets on the secondstorey, try to super-impose the location of the toilet onto say the 1st storey layout plan. Try not to have the toilet…

Dear Master Cecil/Robert, I'm currently sitting with a solid wall behind me. However, on the reverse side of the same wall, there is a basin (with water tap) attached to it, but, we can see it. Whether this type of arrangement has any bad feng shui effect? how to cure? Thanks

Dear Cindy, Lim Cindy wrote: Today, we found a medium sized dark brown bat in our house! We believe its sleeping now. We are afraid that it might be flying around the living room soon in the evening. What should we do now? As this is more of a pest problem rather than feng shui. I think you should seek the help of pest control servicesto help you remove the bat from your home. Dear Jomay, In the heading you used Bath room/powder room. Perhaps, can you elaborate more: 1. How close is the bathroom to the centrepoint? (Where is the toilet bowl) 2. Are there any pumbing in the powder room? Or what is the layout like. If you can, do use the conference: Conference for Attaching Layout and attach a .gif or .bmp or .jpg 3. It is hard for me to comment without knowing the full picture. 4. I must stress that where possible, the Shapes and Form in terms of the site, the house layout and the interior position of the furniture is equally important. 5. It is also `essential' to try to use the Eight House Template and visualise the intangible force at each s…

Dear Master Lee: I am living in a 5 room flat. We have two bath rooms in our house. One is near the dinning hall & the other is in our Master bed room. My queries are pertaining to the bath room near the dinning hall. 1) The design is that this outside bath room has got two opening folding doors which allow us to walk thru' from service balcony to the long corridor leading to the master bed room & vis versa. Whenever we need to use this bath room, we need to close both sides of the door. My question is: I've heard from my relative that this two opening (folded door) will lead to a hazard to our marriage life either led to divorce situation. Is this true? If true, …

Dear Sir: I have just figured out that one of our upstairs bathroom is located inthe Good Fortune/Wealth corner of our house and the guest bathroomlocated downstairs isat the very Center of our house. I guess that just explains why ever since we moved in this house, our debt has becomea lotworse! Is there anything we can do or put in these two bathrooms besides just keeping it closed because we do use both of them frequently. Please advise me to prevent our wealth from flushing away. Thank you so much!

Dear Sophia, Often, the colour scheme of the toilet is a non-issue. Based on commonsense approach, it is good to see how well "lit" the toilets are. Many toilets have small ventilation windows and most are quite "dark" either because they are close to the centrepoint or does not have much direct sunlight most of the time. Given this, *commensense* approach that the toilet should preferably have lighter coloured tiles especially if there are elderly in the home. More important considerations is the location of the toilet. In particular, it is best to avoid the centrepoint of the home. As the toilet has the water element and wrong locations may not be favourable for weal…

These are some considerations: 1. Several factors should be considered regarding home design and plumbing. Primarily, it relates to common sense, which Feng Shui principles often reflect. 2. It is not uncommon for homes to have a toilet situated directly above a kitchen. 3. However, a significant concern arises when sewerage pipes are positioned directly above cooking areas or places where food and drinking water are prepared or stored. 4. The rationale is clear: if a sewerage pipe were to leak, gravity would facilitate the flow of contaminants. 5. In some cases, homeowners have no alternative but to have sewerage pipes located above their sto…

You wrote: "Just to answer some of your questions: This is a side door not located in front or the facing direction. I understand the bathroom is in a bad sector (flying stars 2 & 5). The sewerage pipe of the toilet is not directly above the door. The door is above a basin (for washing hands/face) and the connected water pipe. As this part of house is under construction, If it is not Ok , then I will move the door but this will reduce the size of the next room much smaller." In my opinion, one consolation is that it is located at a sector with bad stars #2 & #5. This is in a way considered as a plus point. I believe, a higher percentage has more to do with "leak…

Dear Anon, It is `reserved' for members who have a religion or have statutes of `gods' or `deities'. For example, the Fu Lu Shou figurines should not:- 1. Directly face a toilet 2. On the same wall as the toilet. 3. Placed inside a bedroom. The chief consideration here is to give utmost `respect' to these "gods". In a bedroom is like changing clothes in full view of the `gods'. So far, I do not see the same rationale for applying auspicious symbols. However, I have yet to see anyone pasting an auspicious symbol inside the toilet door or facing a toilet bowl. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Master Cecil What about if NW is the living room and has MS3 WS2 BS8, the bad #5 yellow that you mentioned at this sector will further worsen by the #3 & #2. What should I do to neutralise this sector, given that this house is a Sum-of-Ten house? Thank you very much for your kind help. Best Regards Emily Yahoo! Dear Lawrence, If I understand correctly, your bathroom door is quite a distance from your bedroom (but directly facing each other). This is secondary, and in my opinion, you could (if you can) close your bedroom door instead. 1. Usually, the impact is greater if the toilet is part of the bedroom. 2. If the toilet bowl is not visible from the toilet door, this even much better. Overall, I would not be too overly concerned in your situation. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kaushal, Yes, overall, the description you provided is certainly not a good `Shapes and Form' position. Usually, if the bed is next to the bedroom door, the best `defense' is to have a reading or side table. A lamp is placed on it. The above is symbolic of having a `partition' between the bed and the toilet door. In your present description, usually, a `low linen' cabinet is placed between the end of the bed and the bathroom door. But I am not sure if this is feasible. But this is one remedy. Closing the toilet door, may not work but it should be closed. Other than this, check for #2 (sickness) and #5 (misfortune) in the bedroom. Usually if it is not `Shapes and Form…

thank you for replying to my question. i deeply appreciate it. if you can assist me a little more. i am thinking of extending the bathroom to a walk-in closet or Dressing room, so that when you walk-out of the bathroom, it is the closet of clothes that you will be in.. however, this would mean that the back wall of the closet would be the wallof mybed's headboard. and the door going to the walk-in closet would be in the same wall as my bed's headboard. will this be helpful or worse? in summary: Plan 1: to install a closet door on the entry way to cover the bathroom door, to make it look like a closet instead of an opening. Plan 2: as you walk-out the bathroo…

Dear Anon, 1. The entrance (or main entrance) is considered as very important. As in many instances ; many Feng Shui practitioners consider this as the "mouth" of the house. Thus since this is the "mouth" of the house, it should not leak qi as what you had mentioned .. i.e. a direct path of qi "leaking" out directly towards a window or door. 2. Another consideration is that especially for a landed property, it is very inauspicious to open the main door (or entrance door) and also immediately see the toilet bowl. Or a direct window or opening. 3. Many "acceptable" toilets have at least sharing a wall with the external wall. This is acceptable. Which means that in many c…

Dear Kyin, It is advisable to close the toilet door. As for the toilet cover, this is optional. The other advise, is to keep the toilet `bright' and dry to create a more yang environment. As for the Ba Gua mirror, in my opinion, this is not of any use here. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Teresa, Can I confirm whether you are drawing a bagua based on fixed template or using e.g. the Eight House Theory (sample format as shown under http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm ) For significance of missing corners, you can review them at http://www.geomancy.net/fs/building.htm ). Do note that sometimes, it may not necessarily be a `missing corner' but instead, a sector may be a protusion. If you have a sketch of your layout plan (to scale); you can attach it to the forum and I can try to find out the centrepoint. You can then use this point to place e.g. your Eight House Template on it. Do note that under the Eight House Theory, if one does not spent time at …

1. Many of us are totally focused only on just our Kua or Gua (Eight House) Feng Shui. 2. But more importantly, the House "Gua" or Kua is more important factor. House Gua often is based both on Shapes and Forms Feng Shui and Flying Star Feng Shui. 3. For personal Gua or Kua, do take note that between facing a good direction and spending time at a good sector, "spending time" prevails over facing a good direction. Although facing a good direction is "Nice-to-have" and not a must-have factor. 4. Lets go back to the start... if we can reverse time: "Finding a good home": Here, the "house gua" or simply Flying Star is used to look at the birth chart of the home. 5. And th…

1. In the past, I had mentioned that we should adopt a holistic "examination" approach to"luck" and Feng Shui. 2. As you are aware, it is nearly impossible to re-locate the toilet. If so, we should instead try to "maximize" luck or neutralise futher issues (poison arrows) from other areas. 3. For example, if we are asked to answer say 4 questions out of ten within 2 hours time period. Thus, a good teacher will always remind the student to try to answer all four questions and set a limit of hour-an-hour per question. 4. Same, here, even if you want to crack your head over the wall for the toilet at the centrepoint issue, one is wasting one's time. 5. Some "minor" cures…

Dear Mr. Lee, I wanted to thank you for answering some of my other questions. You've been a great help. My other dilema is the bathroom located in the center of my house on the first floor. I have read on many websites that I should put a full length mirror on the outside bathroom door, which I plan to do. But I'm a bit confused with the colors. Many websites say neverput anything red in bathrooms because it's too yang. But then I found others say if the bathroom is in the center of the house, I should paint the walls red, orplace red rugs around the toilet, andplace stones, crystals, and green bamboo plants. Right now my bathroom is just plain black and white. I have w…
