Dear Anon, 1. The most common colour associated with Jade is green. 2. Many people believe that the darker the colour of jade, the more valuable it is. 3. In the past, it is common for a lady to wear a jade bracelet around their wrist. 4. Sometimes when they grow `fatter', it is difficult for the jade to come off. But usually soap does the trick. 5. Many believe that the longer the jade is worn, it turns a `darker' colour. Perhaps, it is due to the jade being porous and absorbing the contaminants surround it? 6. For those who have noticed, the Free resources on the website, (under Chinese tombs, The Landscape Feng Shui) there is a body covered entirely with green jade. To…

Previously, I wrote the following:- "Furthermore, cutting down the bamboo, without removing the roots, cause little cups or catchment for mosquitoes as mosquitoes can breed in the circular tubes or hollowes caused by cutting down the trunk." Attached, please find the photos showing that unlike a single tree; bamboo trees grow sideways. Photos also shows that when we cut some of the bamboo plants; one may cause little cubs that may collect water & perhaps cause mosquito breeding in the wet season. > I read somewhere that chinese people consider it inauspicious to grow bamboo plants in the back or si…

Spotted. Above this factory's main entrance door is a bunch of Chinese Leeks (vegetable). Chinese leeks are popular during Chinese New Year. As eating leeks symbolises ever increasing wealth! In addition, Chinese leeks also means: Purity and Justice. And for those who felt that they were wrongly accused; use Chinese Leeks to gain attention for a trial. In modern homes, some Chinese still hang a bunch of leeks above the main door with the hope of increasingwealth for the year.

These canes continue to be favored by parents in contemporary society. They differ significantly from the "Singapore cane" employed in prisons for punishing offenders like vandals or troublemakers. Instead, these canes are primarily utilized by parents, particularly mothers, as a means to exert control or as part of a philosophy of tough love.

Dear Anon, Last hear, I saw a documentary where for example, some British hospitals have adopted acupuncture inconjunction with western medicines. I understand that many years back gingseng plant has been cultivated in US and this has medicinal properties. Nowadays, when we Chinese go to a Chinese herbal shop, we can easily ask for the cheaper US ginseng. In fact, if one goes to a Chinese hospital today, many traditional herbs are used. It goes down to the root of Yin and yang concept. Where, for example, each ailment can be explained as being too yang or too yin. In such a situation, a remedy or herbs which can be classified into yin or yang is prescribed. (What I menti…

Dear Anon, So far, as I recalled, since the history of Modern Olympic games which started in Athens, Greece in 1896, China has not hosted the games. While I believe, Moscow, USSR had hosted one in 1980. In my opinion, I feel the most `memorable' one is the games in Berlin, Germany where, documentary of Jesse James (US and `Black') who won a medal.. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi Anon, Anonymous wrote: I would like some advice please on whether placing photographs of my daughter and her partner in the relationship corners of my rooms will help them heal a rift in their relationship . I so want then to be happy. At present they are apart. I have placed a photograph of them in happy times in the relationship corner of her bedroom, in the sitting room and my office, one photograph i have placed inside a red cd casing. (this one shows them kissing). The hardest area for any third party to help resolve is relationship issues. Frankly, you can only do so much as to create opportunities for the two person to talk it out. Anything, that can help to r…

Today I had an audit near-by. I was curious to see if this traditional styled shop-front designed unit is still around. Indeed, it has been around for at least a decade or more. I really like the authentic style frontage. Even if it is a modern take of the traditional hand-crafted design... never mind... do take a look.. Hoong Woh Tong herbal tea & jelly @ Hougang Mall

Dear Anon, Quite recently, there was a news article on divorce in China. The main cause of what I read was that the men in China are getting more `well off' and some of these men engaged in illict affairs. Usually, the women are more forgiving but usually it is the men who initiated the divorce. Divorce is indeed an `ugly' word all over the world. It leaves a scar on the innocent child or children. Yes, based on what I read, divorce is gaining a foothold and increasingly place an impact on the family unit in China. Usually, the poor wife has difficulty getting child support and may need to work to raise their child in China or she may instead get support from her close re…
