Superstitions and Taboos

Superstitions & Taboos

  1. 1. In my opinion, most of us don't feel comfortable with pests coming into our homes.. especially since they are suddenly attracted to your home. 2. A few months ago, a client who went to my one of my talks, call me to her home to do a Feng Shui. She was equally concerned as her home is always "plagued" with cochroaches! And she asked, why? 3. Her situation certainly would be different from yours, as her apartment is right above a typical Chinese coffee-shop. And she mentioned cockroaches are more prevalent in the day and afternoon. 4. Here, what I believed was that, during day-time when the coffee shop is operating, it can be very warm, uncomfortable (heat) from cooki…

Hi I ve done a Chinese zodiac tattoo to cover up on my left back arm tattoo with the original tattoo that comes with the Chinese character 重 under a red spider lily, with the other side of my arm 生 under a lotus flower. In short, I only do a cover up on my left, I did not want to be over suspicious but can't help to think it might be the cause of the cover up tattoo design (new design is a snake head facing the left side of the spider lily). What happen after one week when my tattoo healed, I began hearing sound, strangely only on my left ear too. I became paranoid but never think is the tattoo issues. I went to see ENT, specialists said hearing test is good nothing wrong…

  4. An interest article. In Singapore where the vast majority are Chinese, many hindus (Indians) also have the opinion that dark colours e.g. black is considered inauspicious. In fact on the contrary, for the Hindus, black is a favourable colour; just that many are not aware of it. And perhaps, assume that just because the Chinese associate black with "death" or "gloom"; they chose to do the same...

Dear Master, is it appropriate to locate the alter at the wall behind the toilet? If that's the only place available to place the alter, could I build another wall in between it? If not is it appropriate to place the alter if the back of the wall if the building's lift? Please advise. Thank you very much.

Dear Anon, 1. Usually, we do not have the luxury of a separate study room. Thus for many of us, our bedroom doubles-up as a study room. 2. The practical approach is to organise or keep our bedroom neat and tidy at all times to create a good ambience for both rest and work. 3. For Feng Shui, it is good to face your "fu wei" but we also have to take into consideration the room layout as well as sunlight. 3.1 For example, if our bedroom window face the afternoon sun (west) directly, and if we often use the bedroom to study in the afternoon, than it may not be too good an idea to sit facing the window (even if this is our fu wei) direction - unless we can somehow control …

    1. In my opinion, scientifically, so long as the "disease" is not contagious - spread thru air, then frankly, there is no scientific basis other than what you had mentioned based more on a "taboo". 2. It makes more sense to say to that it would be most likely the concern that such impressions or a sudden situation e.g. someone having a heart problem or in some cases, some people "foam thru their" mouth prior to death. 3. Thus, we do not inadvertenly want to "scar" someone so young with such "a horrible" - painful situation endured by others. 4. stand by dentures all these are merely "old folk" theories, that's all. However, there are those among the Chinese population who harbor a strong aversion towards the number 4, as well as its multiples such as 44 or 444. Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind the saying: "what is good for one person may not be good for another." Source & Credit:

  17. Dear Sir, I came across your website and find it very interesting. I have just learned from a relative of mine that it is a good Chinese Taboo to throw a brand new scissor into the house when we enter into an empty house to drive away bad luck and spirit. After which, to discard the scissors away. I find it rather amusing and doubtful after I have read your forum on advice about on MOVING INTO EMPTY HOUSE. Can you help by sharing with me your knowledge and experience about such practice? Have youcome across such Chinese taboo in moving into empty house? Appreciate your helpgreatly. Thanks. TANKK

Hi! The unit that we are eyeing for transfer is located at the Ground Floor of a condominium building. It is the first unit of the building and it's supposed garden/courtyard is facing the road of the village and the unit is lower than the level of the road. Is there anything we need to consider when we transfer? Our target dates would be between Oct 28-30, 2005. Thanks!

In fact, Egypt and India has been in-love with this one of the largest fruits since 3,000 years ago. In India, water melons are commonly found in the summer. And what better significance is to have a water melon placed on the ground or hung during summer-time....
