2011 good dates to resume work
1. Chinese New Year starts early this year; 2. This year's Chinese New Year starts on Monday 23 January 2012. 3. As mentioned in the earlier posting of 1/15/2011, below; it is a tradition especially by the majority of Singapore Chinese who are Hokkiens to start operations on an auspicious day on Chinese New Year itself. 4. I have mentioned that for the opposite: for the dead, burial is always done on ODD days e.g. 1st day, 3rd day, 5th day, 7th day etc... immediately after death. 5. However, for business opening; it is always considered auspicious to start operations on EVEN number of days. 5.1. Thus for 2012, the first day of Chinese New Year is Monday 23 January 2012; business should or can or may open on even days e.g. the 2nd day: 24th, the 4th day: 26th, the 6th day: 28th, the 8th day = 30th of January etc... 5.2. In addition, the Hokkien dialect group (a significant number of Chinese in Singapore are Hokkiens (Fujian); love the sound of "6th". As it sounds like "luck". 5.3. In this attached, photo, this very famous and popular wanton noodle stall in a food centre at Telok Blangah states that they start work on 28th January 2012. Which is the 6th lunar day of the Chinese New Year 2012! 5.4. For some business, who can afford to operate or open for business at an extended date could instead operate on Monday 30th January 2012 or the lucky 8th lunar day. 8th is also a very popular and auspicious sounding term for many Chinese dialect groups: 8 in mandarin sounds like prosper for the Cantonese as well as the Hokkiens and Teochews... 6. For example, for Geomancy.net, as we have an international website, our website operations will start on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year which is on Tuesday 24th January 2012. While our phsycial business starts on the 6th lunar day of 2012 similar to this hawker stall. 7. In China, it is usual for many business especially factories to stop work as early as this hawker stall to allow their staff time to return back to their province and home county which can by bus or train be as long as 1 or 2 day's journey depending on which city they work and live. Cecil L. wrote: Further to what I had mentioned; Do take note that under majority of Chinese customs:- 1. Chinese New Year and when is a good day to open for business? 1.1 Chinese always try to OPEN for business on EVEN days based on the LUNAR NEW YEAR. 1.2. Thus, Chinese traditionally OPEN for business on:- 1.2.1 SECOND DAY of the Chinese Lunar New Year or 2nd day of 1st Lunar month OR 1.2.2 FOURTH DAY (4th day of 1st Lunar month) = BUT, some CHINESE don't like the number 4; thus often they go for the 6TH DAY:- 1.2.3 SIXTH DAY (6th day of 1st Lunar month) OR 1.2.4 EIGHT DAY (8th day of 1st Lunar month) = Very popular for Chinese businessmen (Chinese seldom open after the Eight day = as often celebrations cease after this date). 2. While the reverse is true for BURIAL or CREMATION = funeral day:- 2.1. For burial or cremation; the Chinese choose ODD days. 2.2. For example: if someone passed away on e,g, Saturday 15th January 2011; then the funeral should be held on the 3rd, 5th, 7th or 9th day. 2.3 Thus if a person passed away anytime before 2359 on 15th January 2011; then 15th January is to be considered as the First day of passing. Thus funeral can be on 17th Jan or 19th Jan or 21st Jan. 3. Thus CNY Opening is always on an EVEN day (counting from 1st day of the Chinese New Year). Although EVEN number is associated with YIN; but this is not the correct interpretation. EVEN symbolises "A PAIR" e.g. when we visit someone; we always give a PAIR of oranges. Chinese don't like to give odd number fruits on such a joyous occasion. 4. While for a funeral is on ODD days. And a funeral should be conducted on the "YANG" days. 5. Sorry to bring this 2nd subject. But, it is for general knowledge. Especially for the non-Chinese to understand our culture. Hope that helps the younger generation of Chinese. 2012 SE fountain with #5 annual yellow
1. You wrote: Q2. If yes, I am sorry I am not clear on your article http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/arowanafish.htmunder Q2. By Oasis, does it mean that I should have a fountain with all 5 elements present or only 4 elements, omitting the element that is in affliction (ie. #5 yellow Earth). 2. Often, there is a constraint in that one was adviced not to use say a certain colour in an area. For example, in a location where there is the #5 yellow; the name already says it all: if possible avoid YELLOW. and in addition as fire fuels or inflames YELLOW (#5) then often RED should not be present in or under that area or sector. 2.1 In real life situations, sometimes it may be unavoilable not to have especially bright primary colours. How often do we see a child's play toy and not see YELLOW in them. 2.2 Under the Five Elements concept; sometimes instead of cracking one's head as to how to avoid YELLOW totally; the other view-point is the opposite; let's introduce a rainbow of colours especially the primary colours of: BLUE, RED and GREEN. (In many instances YELLOW may be considered another sub-PRIMARY colour). 2.2.1 Reference:- http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=1&mid=24972&new= Refer to Para 7. 3. You wrote: "My SE sector has a natal FS of 4M, 1W and base of 6. I would like to activate this location with a fountain but this mth and the 2012 annual FS is #5 yellow. Q1. Did you take note of where Tai Sui (Grand Duke resides in that year?) 3.3 In my opinion, don't just think of the annual FS #5 yellow which happens to be at SE. In some instances, the Grand Duke follows the Five Yellow:- 3.4 2012 Flying Star Forecast North 7 2 9 8 6 4 3 1 5 South 3.4.1 Take note the following sectors:- Sickness Star this year is at North Misfortune/Sickness Star this year is at South-East Disputes/Quarrel Star this year is at South-West Education/Romance Star this year is at East Grand Duke this year is East-South-East, 120 Degree. - Avoid sitting facing the grand duke or disturbing him by having renovations. Location in Conflict is South. - Avoid having renovations done opposite the location in conflict. 3.4.2 Reference: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/yearly-forecast/fortunes-2012.htm 4. Do not forget that Grand Duke is also at SE or (East-South-East) sector. In such a situation, "respect" and quiet is due, here. So, do you think that it would be wise to hang a wind-chime at SE?? Please put on your thinking cap, here. 5. As for having a water position, the idea is that it can still be of a help; often as mentioned prevously so long as the water position: be it a fountain etc.. has all the five elements to create a balanced flow; this is the safest bet if you still want to place a cure, there. 6. You wrote: "Q3. Is this place safe after the cure I mentioned above for my children to study, etc, taking into account that the House and their Kua are suitable for this place." 6.1 In reality, once a sector is balanced etc and that if one does not have many rooms appropriate for the above activity; have to use the place, means have to use the place. In a recent forum message, a room e.g. the living room area spans two sectors and I have already mentioned how to determine which sector stars are more prevalent over the other star(s).... go read that article... Fireplace facing the master bedroom
These are some considerations: 1. This comes under the category of "belief". 2. This is much like the main entrance door should not be vulnerable to "attacks" by a lone lamp post "slicing into it" or a sharp corner or a sharp roof -- as a poison arrow or sha qi. 3. Under the same "idea"; as in the above; the entrance or the bedroom door should not be vulnerable to "sharp objects" and things like an oven facing the door. 4. The belief is that "hot" objects like an oven or even a fire-place facing the bedroom door could symbolise: either health concerns: fever etc... and/or marriage problems (excessive heat). 5. This is why (perhaps) some say to place a beach scenery to "cool" the fire-place -- down. Or to place a mirror -- again perhaps to "deflect" back the original qi.... etc... 6. Frankly, as mentioned above, it has more to do with such a belief that sparks the concern. 7. One will or can never find a text book answer to your concern. 8. As this is often not a common situation, again as mentioned above, there is really no quick fix nor which is the ideal or correct "cure". 9. Some imaginative cures may even consider things like: if it is not in use; it is considered as no longer a threat or "enclosing the fire place etc... Often, it may not be practical not to have the fire-place on especially in a cold place... 10. Thus, in my opinion, in such an "uncommon" situation; in reality; sometimes; it is even better not to know of such "beliefs"..... kinda of acting blur... is another consideration...

Balancing my Entry for 2012
1. You wrote: "It seems clear it would be beneficial to keep the N windows closed and try to use the entrance as little as possible. Also to use the window in the W area as much as possible (which connects to the S hall which enters this NW - N living room area) where there is an 8 Water Star. " 1A. Yes, you got (the above) correct! 2. You wrote: When adding metal to the N area to weaken the 5 and 2 flying stars, shall I also be concerned about assisting the Jue Ming Wandering Star here? (and perhaps weakening it by assisting the N palace with some water). 2A. It is ok to do so.

convex mirror neighbor
These are some considerations: 1. In my opinion, this is the very first time, I believe, someone like yourself has done so: 1 standard bagua convex mirror above the main door and the 6 car side-rear view mirror type of mirror. 2. Since there are no precedence, will it is either: an over-kill or ............. 3. Anyway, the other side is the human factor. If one is constantly worried about the situation, but may have found "a cure" whether be it real or unreal; if it helps to "settle" or calm the concerned, go ahead. 4. Thus, sometimes, a higher percentage may be due to human factors or "feel good or better" sort of thing. 5. Anyway, hope you can monitor the situation, and let us know how it goes?

Balancing my Entry for 2012
1. Further to what I had mentioned, in my opinion, most geomancers that plot lots of Flying star charts often would prefer to use the Pie chart method. 2. In your illustration, the quickest way to visualise qi is to look first for an external openings especially if a room is within two or more sectors. 3. In this case, take a look at the attachment. I have marked in BLUE, where the PRIMARY qi if there are openings (external openings) would often have the highest weightage. 4. Thus in this illustration; North PRIMARY FACE seems to have lots of windows and even a door. (Other than considering whether they are opened - afterwards or should they be opened wide etc. this is another consideration.) 5. In this illustration, there does not seem to have any external openings at NW at the PRIMARY face of the NW sector. Of course, there seems to have lots of passageway with qi from other sectors indirectly leading towards it. Some of the external qi can even come from the North direction. 6. Of course, this can be considered as highly technical. But, does it make sense? Does what I say make common sense?

Balancing my Entry for 2012
Please refer to attachment. If a room spans two Flying Star Sectors: 1. In this case: North and NW; 1.1. Visualise or locate any openings in the room; 1.2. Priority is any external opening(s) 1.3. Next, other "openings" like a corridor or passage way. 1.4. In this illustration if there are openings a marking in RED "A" then in theory; and if NW does not have an external opening; then, we may consider this room is most likely to be influenced more by North vs NW sector.
-
Balancing my Entry for 2012
These are some considerations: 1. Often when applying the Flying Stars, always visualise where chi (qi) or wind comes in. 2. Here, looks like you have external qi coming in from any openings(maybe look like) there are windows at the North area. 3. At NW, seems like the qi is a secondary one as qi or wind or air flows in from other parts of the home into that area. As there are no external openings from NW other than from open spaces... 4. Thus, in GENERAL, the qi within the North area could be argued to have a higher influence in an area or room that has two sectors spanning it. 5. An aquarium at NW, does seem to help that sector: not so much to enhance qi but rather to help "neutralise" bad stars within the NW sector. 6. Thus predominantly, focus more on the stars located at North. Unless you often close (air-tight) if there are any windows at the North "face" of the home.

Flying stars in W - 2012
Further to what I had mentioned: http://fountain.geomancy.net The most effective water position: 1. It should not be a tiny water feature or position : like those small table top type of water feature. 2. The preferred water position should have all five elements: Metal, water, wood, fire and earth. Under Para 2.1. to 2.12 of the above url link.

Clear glass or tinted glass for dining table
These are some considerations: 1. Glass is considered as belonging to the metal element. 2. I can understand why glass table is popular. As often, some consider it good for small spaces. 3. Actually what you mentioned, has more to do with common sense. Just ask any man; young or old: if a girl with short skirts is sitting facing the person, it is not so much of no good to see people's leg; but rather... what goes further than that! Think about it! 4. It is just like I had mentioned, previously: if one installs a full glass mirror at the dining table; and as most dining tables do not have any courtesy board to cover the leg area, one can also look further thru the legs ..... if the girl is not seated "properly"....

Flying stars in W - 2012
1. Do check the sector; whether is it appropriate to place a water position. 2. For example; if this is an enclosed space; there is no major specific advantage in placing a water position. 3. In the situation that one may inflame other bad stars in that sector: then make sure that the water position consists all the five elements: reference: http://fountain.geomancy.net

is a weak fire dog suitable to be a propertyagent?
Yes, if we consider the global concept of a weak fire person, then; real estate industry is considered as belonging to the earth element. Another varying view-point is that some may say that an agent's main job scope is into marketing or sales or renting out properties; this belong to the fire element. As fire adds to fire then it is considered acceptable. Of course better job scope is of the wood element as it helps fuel fire. Another critical factor in one's ba zi has the ten deities: which include various factors like how much: earned wealth vs luck wealth and othe factors like how much determination and competitiveness in that chart. Other personal factors like an introverted person or character vs an extrovert. Some may take this into consideration.

Am I a strong fire snake or weak fire snake.
Base on your topic description, you are asking whether you are a strong or weak person. You can use the free report:- http://www.geomancy.net/reports/free-report/freerpt-element.htm And in the attached sample, there is a field to indicate whether a person is strong or weak. In the attached sample, the person is considered as a WEAK EARTH person.

Please note that for Geomancy.net and all it's various calculators; for user convenience; all your inputs of any dates of birth should be western date of births. Our system will automatically convert all dates of births into the Lunar dates. This is because many people, even many younger Chinese do not know their exact lunar birth-dates.

can water feature replaced with a aquarium ?
These are some considerations: 1. No issue with a water position be it a water feature or aquarium. Even in some landed properties; an urn with lily plants and some small fishes (fishes to prevent mosquitoe breeding is ok). 2. Nowadays; the more affluent even have large sea water tanks that have slightly thicker walls. 3. Traditionally, in the past a fish tank is often used to neutralize a lamp post etc... 4. For a hobbyist, any size of fish tank is fine or ok. 5. But if for the purpose of Feng Shui; often seek advice from the Geomancer. As often if the Geomancer used proper tools such as the Flying Stars; areas that may need a water feature to neutralize it may not be effective with only a small ..say fish tank of 1feet tank. This goes for a water wealth position as too tiny a water position may not be effective and may even be considered a waste of time in the name: father, son, and holy spirit of Fung Sway! These are some considerations: 1. As you know over years, water feature come and go, and i would like to replace it with a small aquarium insteadI plan to setup a small 1feet aquarium with plants and guppies only (not into arowana or difficult to maintain fanciful tanks).Does it matter if it is just a simple aquarium as long as it is quiet and clean water flow in tank ? Or must i follow fengshui books like goldfish, arowanaa, etc ?

Water feature
1. In general, based on the general concept of water in Feng Shui; for majority of homes other than those that have been determined to have UP mountain (or frontage having mountain position); 2. Generally, water feature at most sites and home's frontage are generally acceptable. 3. The only concern in water Feng Shui principles is the difference between digging a hole to place water e.g. a dug up area in the garden to place a pond. Here, if there is a mountain star #8 at the sector; this is very inauspicious; as it is like digging a hole; place water to DROWN the mountain. 4. Generally, the safest bet if one is igorant of Flying Star numbers is to simply install a water position above ground. 5. From now till 2023, of course SW is the indirect water spirit location. And if this site is located at the SW is advantages to have a water position at that space. 6. But, it seems that you are playing with language. If I get it right from you; you say that the sector is NW and within that sector, you are placing a water position at SW. This is like a wishy-washy kind of thing. Especially if the compound is small; whatever you want to call the sector, it is in my opinion, still the NW sector. 7. As I mentioned, so long as a water position above ground (for those who do not do further investigations) may be acceptable. 8. For trial and error Feng Shui; the main recourse is based on this concept:- The Customer Engineer Concept At best cross your fingers and don't do any other enhancements and wait see .... humpty dumpty sat on the wall; hopefully, he does not have a fall..... sort of thing...sitting on the fence.... 9. *Jokes* aside (refering to Para 8); the safest bet is to make sure that the water position has all the FIVE elements as laid down under the guildelines given under Para 2.1 to 2.12 of this url: http://fountain.geomancy.net 10. A water feature with all five elements is considered as "balanced" system. Much like The Dog Whisperer: Cesar Millan who often tries to help owners achieve having a "balanced dog". Got it? Get it?

Waterview @ Tampines & Waterfront Key
1. The Tropica and Waterview @ Tampines From a Feng Shui point of view, be extra careful when buying properties especially with moving water such as an uncovered drain or canal. 2. In this case, developments such as The Tropica, Waterview and even Temasek Poly is near to an open drain (canal). 3. Based on the orientation of the sites especially the uncompleted Waterview and The Tropica; the entire site is considered facing South-West. 4. On further examination, the canal or drainage drains towards the sungei bedok: if you can see the purple marking showing the drainage towards sungei bedok. Since the two plots are facing South-West, based on Feng Shui principles; the best water flow is from right to the left of the frontage of the site. 5. For other developments, do take note this simple principle for water courses: 5.1. In a micro-level; especially for apartments, often the facing direction is the balcony view. 5.2. Stand inside the balcony and take the reading. If there is an open drainage outside of the home; for apartments that can see the drain (canal); ideally the water should best flow from right side to the left side of the balcony for facing directions of NE, SE, SW and NW. 5.3. If your facing direction is North, South, East and West, then the opposite is true. Best that the drainage is from left to the right side. (When standing inside the frontage e.g. living room or balcony looking outwards). 6. For sites such as in the example; if you intend to buy an apartment; most condo developments have a specific orientation especially in the two examples of The Tropica and Waterview where they positioned their site towards the Bedok Reservior. 7. The Bedok Reservior is a pool of water and this is an added bonus for such sites. 8. At the opposite end, there are other new developments such as Waterfront Waves and Waterfront Keys. These two sites are the closest to a canal that flows as a the tributary towards Sungei Bedok. 9. Waterfront Waves and Waterfront Key For the developments at Waterfront Waves, especially stacks highlighted in YELLOW of BLOCKS H, G and F and for Waterfront Key Block 768, these stacks are generally SOUTH facing. 9.1 Thus from the above example, stacks facing South should have water drainage from LEFT to RIGHT. But when standing in the living room looking outwards, for all these stack, unfortunately, the drainage flow is from RIGHT to LEFT. By right for South facing stacks, the drainage should instead best be from LEFT to RIGHT. Thus, based on Macro-Feng Shui, these are not the best stacks.

Water feature
These are some considerations: 1. From a Shapes and Forms point of view; the main purpose of having a water position is that nothing else can often be built above the water position. Thus giving clear space. 2. Here, if it is the main entrance area, it could imply that there is a "bright" hall effect versus"clutter". Even a tree at the frontage would often cast a shadow. 3. However, if one knows the exact star(s) of the Flying Stars kind; at the frontage, then could use it to guauge what stars are at the main entrance. For example, after Chinese New Year, the annual #8 star is at West. Thus if the frontage is located at west; then a water position, there is fine or OK. 4. Do take note that a water position at the wrong location can often be detrimental. 5. What makes a good water feature: http://fountain.geomancy.net Read Para 2.1. to 2.12.

You wrote: My home is North facing with a natural reserve at the back (South) of the house. A creek flows through the reserve. My understanding is the back of the house should be protected (tortoise). I do have some small trees in the backyard. 3.1 Usually, the fundamental key success factor is to determine the facing direction of the home. 3.2 In some instances, the back of your home could even be the frontage or facing direction. 4. You wrote: I have changed the landscape in the East by removing some old trees. In 2012, I want to plant a hedge all along the boundary wall upto the back boundary wall. I also want to build a retaining wall on the back boundary and grow a hedge. Can I go ahead and plant a hedge along the east boundary wall and build a retaining wall along the back (south) boundary wall to plant a hedge on top, or should I wait until 2013? 4.1 If the back of the house is considered the frontage or should have clear space e.g. water star #8 under Flying Star, then it may be a detriment to plant hedges at the back area if it is now open space. 4.2 Without proper investigations, placing a mountain position wrongly can be equally just as bad. 4.3 Above reference materials shows that locations or sectors in RED should avoid renovations in 2012 or 2013. 5. Therefore, both Shapes and Forms and Flying Stars should best to looked into, for peace of mind. Otherwise, it is all trial and error....
