  1. 1. Yes, the authentic Chinese "pin yin" (romanized character) should be Qi. While the dialect or non-authentic version is Chi. 2. Chinese characters are all consolidated in Mandarin. 3. In Singapore, when I started my primary schooling, more than 40 years back:- My Primary One and Primary Two Mandarin lessons were in the "Big Five" or "traditional Mandarin" characters. While in Primary Three, had to learn both this "Big Five" and "Pin Yin" or the romanized verson which is simply "English character" Mandarin and also had to learn the "simplied Mandarin" characters. 4. Thus, officially, if you go to China and use the pin yin "Chi", most may not understand what you say. But in actual "Pin Yin" it should be "Qi" (Chi). 5. Similarly, some say Gua (correct Pin Yin) while Kua is the "dialect" form. Andalso things like BaGua (correct Pin Yin) while Pakua more of a "Hokkien" dialect. 6. If one were to study in Singapore during my time, you have to be multi lingual! As often, we (students) at that time had to:- 6.1 At home usually most speak family dialect and maybe mandarin or English 6.2 In School, we had to learn: Mandarin ( Big Five - long form; Pin Yin - romanized mandarin and simplified mandarin) 6.3 And in Singapore, it was compulsory to learn basic Malay at my time. So, imagine, we also have to understand and many Chinese shows are in the Cantonese dialect (produced in Hong Kong). Many Singaporeans, end up conversant with at least 5 or more types of "languages". 2. 1. Attached please find an illustration (sample) of a typical home where there, if drainage out of the home, can result in either: Wealth or Power and Authority for the owners. 2. In this example, if drainage out of the home is under Exit 1 and Exit 3, then it would mean wealth for the home-owners. 3. For those who are in politics or want to have a high position in their company, may consider Exit 2. 4. Sometimes, we cannot chose an exit point as it may drain towards a neighbour's home. That is why there are often a further two other directions to consider. Any other drainage out of the homes will often mean "poverty" or "loss of wealth". 5. In this illustration, one can also see the PURPLE arrow directions, where water may drain from LEFT-to-RIGHT or RIGHT-to-LEFT depending on the exit point. 6. As there are a total of 15 facing directions (under the Flying Star Feng Shui), this cannot apply universally for all 15 facing directions. For info, this example is meant only for a Flying Star N1 direction. (No need to consider the period e.g. Period 6, 7 or 8).
  3. 1. Firstly, I don't have a good idea or picture of how the layout of your home looks like. I won't know how far or the distance between the North or NW .. the main entrance... 2. If your facing direction is NW2, then, usually, there should be unobstructed areas where "wind" would come from the NW direction towards the home. Thus it is in-material if the door is slightly to say the North. 3. For a terrace house, in theory, Qi or Chi can only come thru such a house from say NW2 or SE2, since both sides of the home is attached to another terrace home. 4. However, if the home is a semi-detached home, then, there are usually three sides of the home where windows and/or doors and or sliding doors could be placed. And for these homes, qi can enter such a home from three directions. Usually, the qi from the frontage is most likely as it is often unobstructed. While, the back-yard area - depends on whether there is another home behind yours and for the side, again, another home is obstructing the qi? 5. For a bungalow home (4 sides) can have wind or qi coming in. 6. Please note that many experienced Feng Shui practioner would often say that re-locating the main door e.g. to North can only be "temporary" since this is not the true facing direction. And subsequently, qi will end up comig from the areas with the most yang (lighting or bright areas - clear space). Therefore, it is a waste of time and effort in most instances to try to change the door. Quote: Anonymous wrote: Dear Master Cecil, It often is confusing regarding the affect of flying stars of any year on the main entrance direction and location. My house faces NW2 and the main entrance also faces NW2 (same wall) but located on the right side at the North sector. My questions are: 1) Is the main entrance affected by the flying stars residing in/coming from NW or N of any year? 2) If I tilt the door to N (my sheng chi direction), still as per answer for Q1 above? Thanks in advance.
  4. 1. It's a pity that only in this "crazy" world of Fast Food Feng Shui would someone want to change the bed-head position annually. Think about this! 2. Who in their right frame of mind has ever considered moving the bed, and re-arranging, say the bed room console, and internal arrangements in a bedroom? Again, only those too free or nothing else better to do. 3. Chinese Beliefs: Pregnancy VS Moving Bed - Annually Many Chinese believe that if one is pregnant, one MUST never move the bridal bed, else there could be a likelyhood of an aborted birth. Thus all these talk about moving bed-head to "cater" to the whims and fancies of the Grand Duke or the three killings is but an unfortunate mis-conception. Furthermore, many bedrooms are constrained by having a bedroom door, attached bathroom (door), windows and other "obstacles". In fact, those who think that they can practise Annual moving or changing bed-head directions should think again! Else, normal sane persons would call these people "SIAO" (Hokkien phrase) for MAD!
  5. 1. Please note that the three (or sometimes two) drainage exit points is dependent on the facing direction of a home. Thus a home (landed property) facing Flying Star SW 1 would have it's drainage totally different from a home with say facing direction NW 1 etc.... 2. And this left-right or right-left is again dependent on Para 1.
  6. Further to what I had mentioned:- 1. What has the Eight House (Eight Mansions / East/West Group or Ba Cai) Feng Shui to do with annual afflictions of the Grand Duke / Five Yellow and Three Killings?. 2. First and foremost, the Eight House concept is one of the TWO compass school theories. The other compass school theory is the Flying Star Feng Shui. 3. Frankly, too many are either having a phobia or simply don'tmake an effort to understand concepts like the Eight House properly.I wonder how did one ever link this concept with Grand Duke / Five Yellow / Three Killings? And not sure why some are so free to move their bed (bed-head) annually? Don't you have better things to do than to move your bed (bed positions?) 4. I like to emphaise that Grand Duke / Five Yellow / Three Killings are based on annual afflictions.Recent posting, can be found, here:- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Grand_Duke_%26_Three_Killings
  7. Please check my recent message on the same subject and type of question asked. Clue: The Eight House concept is not like the "Grand Duke" concept! Again, try to find out what is the Eight House concept:- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/The_Three-Step-Approach I really don't understand why this year, (and only) this year so many confuse the Grand Duke with the Eight House?? Quote: Theresa K. wrote: I am sleeping with my head pointing to East which is one of my good direction. However for this year East is afflicted should I still sleep with my head pointing to East?
  8. 1. Please note that the link has been fixed, it should be working. 2. Since both of you intend to stay at both homes, your earth luck or Feng Shui will be influenced by the two homes and even the place of work. Frankly, there is no scientific accountability as to how much luck or influence comes from which home. However, logically, if you were to stay at a home from Monday to Friday (5 days) vs Saturday and Sunday (2 days) then the weightage may be mathematically divided based on this ratio. But, really, must life be so calculated? 3. In my opinion, your existing home or the Monday to Friday home should have the highest influence. 4. As to missing corners, very recently, I had mentioned a few ways and methods used by some Feng Shui practitioners on this matter. Quote: Anonymous wrote: Dear Master, Happy New OX Year 2009! Here I would like to thank you for your advices all this while and how wonderfully they have helped our life. Our new apartment will be ready in a couple of months time. The new apartment is facing NW2 sitting SE2. Our current apartment faces S1 and sits N1. My brother and I belongs to the East Group and respectively kua 3 and 4. Both males. Please find our questions below: 1) We decided to stay at both apartments maybe 1 during the weekend and the other during weekdays. How will this affect our feng shui? 2) The new apartment has missing W and E. As E represent Eldest Son, will this affect us? Also what is the best cure for missing W and E? 3) We also read in one of your reply to new house, info for shifting in, etc are located at info.geomancy.net. However the pdf link to "getting key" is incorrect. Can you please update the link? Thank you so much again.
  9. 1. Thank you for the sketch. However, you did not state where is the frontage of your home. 2. For example, I have marked in RED: A, B, C, D. 3. If the frontage is at A and "sitting-back-of-home" is at B, this is acceptable. 4. If your frontage is at B and "sitting" at A, then this is OK. 5. If your frontage is at C or D, then it depends on the road parallel to the frontage. P.S. Please note that if you do want to post a sketch, be more specific with where the home is in relation to the plot of land. Else it is very unproductive for me to ask more questions as I consider this, the final reply.
  10. 1. Please re-read my previous reply. 2. If you are DIY Feng Shui, then, try to see if you can apply Flying Star Feng Shui. As Flying Star Feng Shui maps out the "birth-chart" of a home. And things like water star #8 is a good location to place a water feature (distinct from whether you are a weak fire or not). If your water position is placed on a water wealth location, then it is fine. (A water position may also be placed at a water star #1, location) 3. In general, from now to 2023, avery good location to activate water position MAY be the South-West sector. Which is in general, known as the "water-wealth-spirit" location of a home. 4. Under Flying Star, what could be worse than to place a water feature at the mountain star #8 or #9 or #1 location. 5. If the above soundsgreek, then either you "jolly-well" have to learn more or get professional help or as you had mentioned, simply remove the water feature, first. Please don't ask me what is "Flying star / what is water and mountain star." Do a search - and read and learn more.

  12. 1. This is one of the most asked questions (for the past 10 years) of forum resources. Why don't you use your fingers to do a SEARCH. 2. First and foremost, there are sufficient info for these three "steps":- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/The_Three-Step-Approach 3. 16. 1. For reference, most types of ba gua mirror can be found under this link. 2. Your neighbour's ba gua mirror is different from the rest of the mirrors found under Para 1. 3. Before we go into your neighbour's ba gua mirror, more about the use of the Luo Pan or (Chinese compass) as found in the middle of your neighbour's ba gua mirror. 4. As most of us know, the Luo Pan is used mainly by Geomancers like myself. There are chiefly two types: The "San He" which has the 24 directions and is used in harmony with Heaven-Earth-Human. While there is another type known as "San Yuan" - more towards the I-Ching (64 combinations of hex symbols). 5. Can the "Luo Pan" be placed in a home? 5.1 Here, there are two ways to place a Luo Pan : Horizontally or Vertically. 5.2 When placed horizontally, it is often used to detect and deter evil spirits. 5.3 When placed vertically, it is meant to "absorb" or meant more for "auspicious" wealth. 5.4 In fact, in ancient times, some Feng Shui masters practise the installation (burying) of a ba gua mirror especially in the middle of some homes. (Based on certain calculations used). 5.5 In the past, some Feng Shui masters even ask their clients to place a luo pan below the altar. This is said to increase the "strength" of the God e.g. akin to taking viagra ! 6. Your neighbour's ba gua with the Luo pan in the middle. It does not matter if the Luo pan is either the San He or San Yuan or other variations. The fact that there is a luo pan in the middle and as mentioned under Para 5.3, ie. the Luo Pan is in the vertical position, it is meant to create auspiciousness for the owners (neighbours) and not used so much as to deter "deflect" evil spirits. Only Luo Pans placed horizontally is meant more to deter "evil spirits... 7. Ba Gua "mirror" war. It is a double edged sword if you were to place a ba gua mirror especially if both your unit (apartment) doors are directly facing each other. 8. By placing the ba gua mirror WITH the Luo pan in the centre, is technically to your neighbour placing an equivalent "concave" mirror to suck wealth. Since I had mentioned that the Luo Pan placed vertically is suppose to "create auspiciousness" for the owners as it faces your unit. 9. Unfortunately, it would be better if your neighbour had those normal ba gua's e.g. with qi lin (chi lin) or no mirror more for protection. 10. Frankly, no matter how, if you were to place a "similar" mirror, above your door it will be a lose-lose situation:- You could place a Concave mirror. You could place a Convex mirror. In your home, either can be used. But the concave would be better choice given that it is a REAL mirror vs a symbolic Luo Pan (that sucks wealth). Thus in a ba gua war, the concave mirror would overall be ahead of the Luo Pan. However, if you place a convex mirror, it may prevent good qi from coming into your home, while it takes care of the neighbour's ba gua by deflecting it. This is more of a lose-lose for both. When your neighbour decide to change to a convex mirror and you are using a concave mirror, then both will neutralise each other - square 1 situation. If both use concave mirror i.e. you keep your concave and your neighbour replaces his/her bagua luo pan with a concave, then this is a lose-lose situation. If so, you can change to a convex mirror instead. Thus Yin and Yang in balance so long as both mirrors are of the same size. If one is larger then again the complication of which is "stronger" follows! Honestly, these are some of the repercussions, you have to consider. Else, if you don't often open your door, then, may just "bite the bullet" and leave it as it is.
  17. 1. Please note that BOTH Eight House (Eight Mansions or East/West Group) and Flying star Feng Shui belong to the Compass School of Feng Shui. 2. In a very recent reply, I had mentioned that : 2.1 we human beings have a birthday. 2.2 a home also has it's birthday. 3. You are "arguing" on the basis of what suits your birth-chart and imposing this to a home. 4. Instead, of "arguing" about how you can impose your "will" of Feng Shui on the home, think about this: We humans have to harmonise with our environment, FIRST! 5. Thus, the clue is that a home has it's own birth chart. This would depend on where is your proposed facing and sitting directions. 6. Little things like where or drainage of your home - right to left or left to right out of your frontage is more important! 7. So, why impose your will on the home's Feng Shui? You must instead harmonise your home to the most optimium facing direction and from there work out the rest.... 8. The saying goes " A little knowledge is a dangerous thing". And furthermore, from your message, parts of it looks more like Kindergarten Feng Shui. 9. If you truly want to have a flavour of what really, really Feng Shui is about, and your dream home:- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Want_to_build_your_dream_home%3F Many, simply DIY and later find that Feng Shui does not work. Who is to blame, here? Especially for those who have thinks that Feng Shui is so so simple.... "simpleton"...
  18. 1. As mentioned, previously, no two homes or apartments are similar. Have a client who had moved in around the TOP period (2006). In fact, last year, they are looking at bigger premises - landed property. Thus, I believe that in general, some of the owners of units are doing well. 2. In the past, early 1960's I used to follow my dad to the Singapore Gun Club where he is a member, there. Quote: One of the empty units is facing rifle range road, where there is a cluster of about 4 semi-d terraces with big round window features. I remembered from a tv programme, these windows are akin to having "eyes" looking directly at you all the time and may not be good in a fengshui sense. Any way of countering them? This was similar to a story, written by Dr Evelyn Lip, in one of her Geomancy books, where she mentioned that, the owners of a certain home fell very sick and the home was inauspicious. One day, during low tide, a geomancer noticed a piece of rock shaped like a frog's figurine (in the river bed) and it's mouth pointing towards this, home. It is symbolic of a hungry mouth. Which is very similar to what you had mentioned. Thus, if this looks inauspicious, best to step-aside and look elsewhere. The only way of countering them is that "physically" the house is pulled down. Or building a high fence? Building a high fence is also considered inauspicious - much like a prisoner in a home. (Based on the concept: If it cannot be seen, it is no longer a threat)!
  19. 1. Please use this link (report link) to generate a report to check which is your favourable sitting position/direction for work:- http://www.geomancy.net/reports/reports-list/perlist-workposition.htm 2. However, please note that the above sitting / facing direction for work is contingent on things like the layout plan of the room and/or some of us simply cannot change out sitting positions. 3. Thus, it is considered as "NICE-TO-HAVE" and not a "MUST-HAVE".
  20. Sorry, cannot comprehend what you had written. Best to give a simple sketch. See attachment.
  21. 1. Usually, some older folks would wrap (even number of coins) e.g. 20 cents in a red paper and placed it into the urn. 2. You may pour the contents (ash) into say a plastic "bin" and check to see if there was any previous "objects or items" such as the above. If so, you can still take it out and place it into your new urn. 3. Often, when changing urns, some would scoop some of the old ash into the new urn. 4. You may wrap up the old urn in a "used" clean newspaper and simply throw it away, afterwards.
  22. 1. From a Ba zi, perspective, make sure that the person is not a Strong Water person or a weak fire person as a water position placed wrongly in a home is considered inauspicious. 2. A water position, placed wrongly can also affect health and family relationships i.e. under Flying Star, if it is placed in a mountain star #8 location. 3. You can read up on what makes a good water feature (especially Para 2.1 to 2.12) under this link:- http://fountain.geomancy.net
  23. 1. Frankly, in all developments there are often good (auspicious) and inauspicious units. But many units are affected by the afternoon sun (morning sun not so bad). Many (majority) of the units either face NW or SE. 2. In general, the plot of land is rectangular and the block layout (twin-halfs) are overall, acceptable. 3. Sometimes, it is hard to find out what is the reason for the owner's selling their homes. But, if it is true that it is a forced sale or divorcing couple... then... should be further investigated. 4. The rule of thumb is always bring along all family members to view the apartment. 5. In addition: check where is the afternoon sun "west". (Morning sun not so bad). Many of the units facing Upper Serangoon Road, will get the afternoon sun. And it is not ideal given that the living rooms and many of the bedrooms face this side. 6. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, Period 7, NW facing apartments have very little luck as the water wealth star #8 is trapped in the middle of the home. Thus the SE facing homes are "better" than the NW facing ones... Anthony T. wrote: I am thinking to purchase a second hand EC 'The Florida' at hongang. May I know any feng shui problem for this property
  24. 1. The traditional advise is to avoid placing a (LARGE)Qi Lin in one's home. Qi Lin should only be used or displayed in a temple. 2. In Singapore, in the past, a few Chinese associations placedlarge figurines of the Qi Lin outside their association building. This led to lots of conflicts and quarrels amongst members. 3. In a home, avoid placing such figurines as it will also lead to conflicts and quarrels amongst family members. If one really wants to place qi lin or a pair of qi lin, they must be very small sized e.g. not more than 2 inches in height and width. For conception, some place it at one's balcony facing outwards - in the hope of conceiving a child. 4. The Pi Xiu in the past was found on the stone pillars of Chinese tombs and also found on the roof of ancient Chinese buildings. Nowadays, it is common to find those who "belief" in it to place facing their main door. And many were told to "boxed" it up so that no one else e.g. outsiders can touch it. For such believers, some place their lottery ticket held by the legs of the Pi Xiu. 5. Some people, buy these objects as a form of "comforter" or "feel good" factor. It has more to do with psychology. Many rich people never even heard of these items. Perhaps, it is like the "lottery". Many "poorer" people buy such objects in the hope of ........
  25. 1. Based on the Flying Star chart that; there is a water star #8 (current water wealth star) at the frontage. And it is good to consider a water position to activate the water star for better career and general luck. 2. In general, the home should enjoy good Feng Shui. Only thing is to check that the lamp post on the rounder does not slice thru the main door or a window of the home. Quote: Dear Master Some master point the No 9 house:- 1) The house need water because facing Southeast 2) In Fornt of the House water flow according to the slope 3) In Fornt of the House had a guard house and a rounder about. 4) On the rounder about had one lamp post 5) A god (Buddha)said the house very good fungshui. I believed the house shall be very good fungshui for the owner
