Dear SL,
When the Flying Star course starts, in early October, you can find out more about how to draw the Flying Star Chart.
It uses a formula and is not directly related to the I-Ching.

Unfortunately, there is not much one can do that is not so obvious. However, under the Five Elements concept, Fire element can be used to neutralise metal. Here, e.g. a red packet with $2 can be hung below the lighting. But this can be quite obvious as it can be seen.
Alternatively, if you have a PC monitor, you can alternatively place this on it or on your desk.QuoteI cannot shift my sitting

Hi Cecil,
I've always been confused with
the way the compass should be
pointed at before I place an
item.
I assume that if I want to see
the direction of my main
door,I get a compass and face
it outwards, while standing at
the main door.
1. When we do a D.I.Y. FS audit, the assumption is that we are using a regular or ordinary compass.
http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm
2. The above analysis of the door direction using an ordinary compass will help or assist one to determine compass direction of the main entrance door. This info is required as an input for generating the Flying Star Chart and/or the Eight House Chart.
3. For the Flying Star Chart, accuracy must be in the range of + or - 15 degrees in order to get the correct orientation e.g. North 1, or North 2 or North 3?.
4. With the above information, then a chart such as the Flying Star Chart can be drawn and items placed within one of the 9x9 grid or a pie chart of 8 sectors under the Flying Star Chart can help you analyse or diagnose the sector.
5. I am not sure, if I got your question correctly as we do not need to identify the position of each time. But rather need to follow the above points as mentioned under Para 2, 3 and 4.QuoteBut what about
for items, like a fountain ?
I've a fountain at home and
would like to confirm if the
direction is alright. It is a
fountain with a "1 quarter"
shape, i.e. 2 ends having
straight ends and the front is
circular. At the moment, the
fountain is placed at a corner
of my house, in the main hall.
How do I point the direction
of the compass ? Facing it ?
Or facing outwards against the
main hall?
For placement of fountains etc... there are many considerations and it depends on your level of `participation' or `non-participation' in Feng Shui.
For example, what kind of tools you want to apply in Feng Shui. It ranges from the use of one's instincts to the use and application of Shapes and Form Feng Shui particularly, concepts on `clear space' and `solid backing'.
Other concepts, can be applied e.g. Flying Star to diagnose the sector to see if water position is/are suitable.
Therefore, it depends on what tools you want to apply in Feng Shui.
It is not for me to `sell' FS concepts or applications. It is more for the individual to see what sort of tools he/she wants or do not want to use.
Basically, if one simply wants to use one's instincts or sixth sense, I always ask this question:
What is your purpose of placing a water position?
If one uses instincts, and found a particular water position lovely or interesting, by all means go and buy it and place it in your home.
But if one's ( MOTIVE ) is that I read a book or two and it seems that WATER = Wealth, then, one may still need to use instincts if one does not want to use any other further FS concepts or theories. Treat it as any other decor items.

CecilQuotePlease advise. Thank you !

Usually, without much analysis in Feng Shui, as you have mentioned, it would be preferred not to use red carpeting in a room especially in the bedroom.
1. Red is considered th most yang colour and bedroom should usually have more yin (rest) than yang (activity).
2. Depending on the sector, or compass directions, it would not be too ideal to have red at the South side or sector as it represents the `fire' element.
3. It should preferably not good to use a blue colour for the bedsheet as there would be an extreme contrast of red and blue where both can easily clash.
Perhaps, you can try to use a lighter shade of blue or grey.QuoteThanks in advance.

Dear Rebecca,
Usually, we should take the shape of crystals based on various shapes that we like and thus wear them.
Overall, there are so many different shapes and designs and it is quite difficult to place them into specific categories.
The shapes you mentioned, heart, star are usually worn symbollically as a decor linked perhaps to `romance' or love.

Regarding your first question i..e can we consider artifical plants as wood element?
In my opinion, it is still best to use real plants (if possible). But based on well held views of artificial plants, there is no problem in considering them as being `wood element' as symbolism in Feng Shui is a powerful tool and I feel that many good FS practitioners will agree with this.
As to your second question, I would prefer to place as you had mentioned `artificial' plants or flowers especially in the bedroom than real plants or flowers (if given the choice).
As for the toilet, a picture may get damp especially if the toilet is constantly wet... so a commonsense approach need be taken on this issue.

Dear Elaine,
Sorry to learn about your plight.
Since, Feng Shui is quite a wide topic and problem resolution involves many holistic approach (usually, a good FS practitioner) can diagnose it onsite; but if you want to;
Please sent a private email to: Robert Lee at robert-lee@3dmail.com to provide you with the necessary reports to help you D.I.Y.; to identify problem areas in your home. Here, if you have an ordinary compass, you can input the variables and my customized reports would help you to immediately identify the problem areas. Most of all, since we am unable to help you onsite; you can use all the avialble `Paid' tools free of charge.
For your home, please also stand at the main entrance looking out of the main entrance, and each window to look out for any possible threats.
Please provide Robert with i.e.
No. of persons in the home so that he can give you free paid credits for the relevant amount of reports.
If you have already an account at www.geomancy-online.com, privately email the account name that was created so that he can credit it to the account.

To find your love attitude number, add your birth month and your birthdate together. Keep reducing it until it?s a single digit.
Example: January 28 = 1 + 28 = 29
= 2 + 9
= 1 + 1 =2
Your love attitude number is = 2
Read on below to find out what your love style is supposed to be.
~~~~~
You?re charming imaginative and independent. Usually your style is ahead of
others, you know what?s in and what?s way out. Sometimes you?re a little too aggressive when it comes to pursuing a love interest. You?ve a way of drawing attention wherever you go,and this dramatic flaire usually
attracts the strongest guys. Your competitive nature either draws or repels guys/gals but those who can?t handle your power aren?t your type anyway. At times
you can be possessive, manipulating and demanding with your friends and in love relationships. You like guys/gals with lots of intelligence and knock
them dead good looks don?t hurt either.
~~~~~~
Your love nature is sentimental, romantic and kind. Your easygoing, mild manner allows almost everyone to feel very comfortable with you
-especially shy guys/gals. Your modesty and tact enable you to get along easily with
both sexes. You?re a natural peacemaker and can be very persuasive with words, which helps you to gain the respect of your classmates. You can
also be too sensitive at times, and your greatest drawback is a lack of confidence to stand up for yourself in conflict. Your favorite type of
guy is a gentle, affectionate one who is also strong and playful. A great sense of humor is also a must. A guy/gal who loves to listen to music and
dance should rank high on your list of favorites, too.
***** 3 *********
You?re imaginative, fun-loving, trill-seeking and expressive. You?re so charming that you attract many friends and you?re almost never lacking
guys/gals. In your earlier years, you maybe totally shy and self-conscious, but you?ll lose those qualities in the high-school years. You can be sort of
vain or even a bit of a show-off when you get caught up in exciting events in your life, but you usually redeem yourself in some playful way before you lose a friend. Jealousy shows its ugly head sometimes, but generally
you aren?t affected by it unless your guy tries to provoke it. In the guy department, you refer the athletic or artistic types. You?re in absolute heaven when you find both of those qualities in the same guy. When
you?re looking for love, a guy who can make you laugh scores points, big time!
******* 4 ********
You tend to be loyal, dedicated and good-hearted. You?re one of the most diligent students when you really try, and you tend to make your schoolwork
a priority. You also express those same qualities in your love relationship. No one is more faithful and trusting than you. In fact, those tendencies
can be a little negative in your romantic life. give you the respect and love you deserve. You can be stubborn and a bit of a troublemaker if the mood
strikes you but you can usually dig yourself out of that hole just in time to stay out of major trouble. You usually fall for extremes when choosing a
love mate - he/she is good-looking, too, but that?s not a major consideration for you.
****** 5 ******
Your love attitude is adventurous, charismatic and spontaneous. You?re creative and adaptable, and you can come up with the most exciting and
sometimes daring things to do. Your quick intelligence and way with words help get you out of the problems that come with being flirtatious and laying
hard to get. You need to pay close attention to your personal values because you love to try new and different things and easily go along with the crowd
and the consequences can put extra strain on your r/s with a boy/girl. You like guys who have great bodies and good looks, along with exceptional brain
and high grades. It helps if they?re highly athletic or invoved in as many activities as you, otherwise you might get bored! Variety is the key to your love attitude number.
********** 6 *********
You?re warm, loving, devoted and affectionate.Your outgoing, thoughtfulnature attracts many girlfriends to you, and usually some of the nicest guys too. Because of your need to care, you can end up in a relationship that
requires too much care-taking to make it balanced. Since home and family play important roles in your life, you?re unlikely to be attracted to guys/gals who your parents wouldn?t like. Sometimes you?ve a slight jealous
streak but it doesn?t last long. Some people with this love attitude number are prone to making harsh judgements of others, especially when others don?t share your set of values. You?re especially attracted to the good
looking, boy-next-door type who is smart as well as a gentleman.
*********** 7 ************
Your love nature is thoughtful, poetic, mystical and mysterious. A few people with love attitude number seven are class clowns, and they usually
attract guys/gals who like to be given a hard time. But most of you?re the quiet, reserved types who dislike calling attention to yourself. Your type
generally attracts guys who feel the same way you do. Your defined, independent and secretive nature is very alluring to certain guys/gays. At times, you can also be somewhat fault-finding and a
little demanding in your love r/s and with friends. You?re mostly attracted to guys/gals who aren?t like all the rest; a loner easily attracts you. And, if he/she reads alot and enjoy learning, he/she is especially perfect for you.
******** 8 *********
Your love attitude is confident, powerful and exciting. This number usually makes for a very conscientious student, someone who puts schoolwork ahead of a social life. However, you also enjoy being a leader among your classmates and will seek offices or other positions that enable you to
use your leadership skills. Because of this, you can be somewhat intimidating to certain guys/gals. You can also be a little too intense, bossy and
jealous for your own good. Your love match is definitely someone who is smart, handsome and popular. You like quality over quantity and will usually
wait until the guy/gal with the best attributes comes along.
******* 9 *********
You?ve a sophisticated attitude that?s also generous and considerate.Your responsible, charitable nature may find you attracting guys/gals who
want someone to confide in or who makes them feel secure. At a very young age, you developed the type of personality that makes others feel safe and
protected. You?ll carry these qualities into your adult years and, down the road, you?ll be a good mom because of them. On the negative side, you can be argumentative and overly emotional, and you usually possess a temper that can make everyone run for cover. You like the kind of guy/gal who is responsible and impeccably dressed and has gorgeous eyes and a great body. Charm, with and (of course)brilliance could make him the perfect guy/gal for you.

Dear Rose,
Normally, mathematics can be used as an analogy to your question:
1. Feng Shui is about `earth luck'. While Pillars of destiny is about `heaven's luck'.
2. Feng Shui and other Chinese divinity methods are all about trying to increase one's luck.
3. How then do we increase our `earth luck'.?
4. Quantum Leap in Feng Shui
For earth luck, the major idea is to either have a quantum leap in Feng Shui luck e.g. a home with good or excellent FS qualities.
A home with Quantum Leap in Feng Shui may bring in say e.g. 60 to 90 percent of all the luck there is for the home.
5. Without doing anything, for example, a person staying in such a home will automatically receive luck from their home. Yes, these homes are not that easy to find.
Here, the concept is about wealth accumulation. Such houses, can let users accumulate wealth automatically.
6. If you have the time visit the conference: Photo Tours of Interest (with Pictures) under this conference to read more about the following developments e.g. The Meyer Place or The Sterling Condominium.
You can utilise the search feature in this forum and type in a word e.g. " Meyer " etc... or log out of this forum and search for condominium development like " The Tropica " of the Hong Leong Group.
7. For example, these are homes or sites that do give a " Quantum Leap " in Feng Shui.
8. Many condominiums are in a Horse Shoe shaped as described under the development like " The Tropica ".
These homes are protected in a `horse shoe' shape e.g. with solid backing and clear space at the front.
9. If one also reverses the horse shoe, it looks like two hands clasped together to `receive wealth'.
10. The above are some of the examples of wealth collection. And depending on the development, `luck' may range from 50% to 90% depending on the location of the site.
11. The above is what I refer to as good Feng Shui. And not a myopic view of Feng Shui of just the interior of the home.
We should not just look at the interior of the home for that `elusive' wealth sector.
Imagine in a worst case senario; if all else outside the home falls apart; what is the use of looking for that elusive wealth sector within a home?
12. Feng Shui should be looked as a holistic method.
13. If a millionaire's sector is so easy to find, we then should question why there is NO such book available to the public.
The book could perhaps simply have only one page and pint-point the spot marked `X' as the wealth corner.
This is simply an illusion.
14. For the interior of the home, tools like Flying Star can help to check for any imbalances and `cure' or enhance that sector.
In mathematics, even if one get the `millionaire's corner' right, it only accounts for say a small portion of the `luck element' or your score could be 10 marks out of 100 total. One still fails the exam.
15. A more realistic approach is thus to SCORE as many marks as possible at all sectors of the home.
Any Feng Shui Master who claims to know where the Millionaire's corner will indeed be laughing loudly to the bank at the expense of his client.
The client would only be left with less money at the end.
16. It is also like the fortune teller down the street. Imagine! If the fortune teller who has the `cheek' to predict another person's fortune; should instead be rich him/herself as they should be able to predict their own fortune. But why? Are they doing there predicting for others.. Odd is'nt it. Again, if you look at it who has the last laugh.
We should try not to be too gullible in such issues. (This remark is not pointed at you) but rather.. we should try to look at the `deeper issues'.
Warmest Regards,
CecilQuoteOn 8/26/2001 7:33:00 PM, Anonymous wrote:

Dear Vicki,
1. There are two major theories/concepts to refer to on the placement of water positions.
2. The two major concepts are:-
2.1 Shapes and Form Feng Shui
Here, it would depend on the type of water position.
If the water position is flat e.g. a ground level pond e.g. for koi fish etc... than this can be represented by `clear space'.
But if it is a fish tank, usually the fish tank is tall with leg stand, than it cannot represent `clear space'.
`Clear space' is akin to a bird flying freely infront ... unobstructed.
Usually water positions that provide clear space are especially good at the frontage of the home.
While fish tank should be placed against a wall.
Hong Kong Feng Shui practitioners usually use fish tank next to a window to `cure' poison arrow e.g. a lone lamp post slicing thru the window.
Here, there are two components in the fish tank: goldfish which represents the metal element and water represents the water element. The above combination is used to neutralise e.g. the `threat'.
2.2 Flying Star Feng Shui
Here, it depends on whether one wants to use this theory or not. If one uses this theory, than it is used to check for any imbalances at a sector and how the water element of say the fish tank may affect that particular sector.
3. It would be good to have the hill at the back of your home as it represents a tortise or `solid backing' for your home.
4. In my opinion, it would not be a good idea to place a waterfall in the backyard as water should best be utilised at the frontage of the home.
My advice to you is "If it is not broken, don't fix it".

Dear Angela,
Apologies, if I side-track a-bit...
Two years back, after buying my new home, I grew a bamboo tree.
The rationale for bamboo tree was that I calculated, within two years, it would be useful.
The reason was because my new house has a personal enclosed space. Althought the house is perfectly suited to me i.e. most suitable house under the Eight House and it also has a double `7' flying star in the current Period 7.
Although it is considered an excellent house; like my previous home, it can have a fair share of `poison arrow(s)' that may need to be corrected.
Just nice, when I shifted in end of last year, this bamboo tree was there to `cover' or protect my living room from a lone lamp post outside the main road.
One of the key element in Feng Shui is: protect, protect and protect... even if it may be considered an excellent home.
In your case, can you buy another plant? And place this plant on one side first?
When I have the time, I will show a few photographs of what I meant above.
In addition, I went out around Singapore Art gallerys looking for paintings with a Dragon theme.
I was fortune to have found a painting with a central dragon at the centre and it consists of nine dragons. The interesting thing is because this type of painting can be quite `strong' and powerful, you will not see the author pending his name on this painting.
This painting is at the end of my living room wall and in my opinion and my belief, it offers added protection against any other threats. Because, I have a glass frontage e.g. sliding doors at my frontage, this allows this picture's " dragon Qi " to flow out of the home especially when I open the glass panels. Again, at a later date, I will post some photos for all to see.
This is how Applied Feng Shui is applied in my personal case.
Warmest Regards,

They became dormant, and
displayed no new growth over
the past four months.
Yesterday I noticed two of my

surprising than that I have a
completely new bamboo shoot
growing up from the rocks in
the vase. My question is what
do I do now??? My first

correct the inauspicious
direction of main front door?
It is usually not advisable to base on just one Feng Shui theory and say for sure that the main front door is inauspicious:-
Of-course, under the Eight House Theory, it is best to have a home that has a suitable main entrance door but:-
1. Under Shapes and Form Feng Shui;
One should also consider the statement " Protect, protect, protect".
If one were to say shift the main door to orientate to a good direction; one should consider if any threats to the main entrance.
For example, the new door position could encounter a lone lamp post or a sharp corner of another building.
Alternatively, it could now be oriented towards the North-East (devil's gate) or South-West (devil's backdoor). If so, more investigative would should normally be conducted e.g. using Flying Star FS.QuoteI don't know how to attach a
floor plan (I have one of 1st

drawings) to this post. But
basic layout is: 1st floor:
Main door in NW, kitchen in
North, 1/2 bath in West.
Dining room in NE, living room
in S, SE and E.
2nd floor: Master bed in in
North, full bath in West,
office in South/SE and gues
room in East.
Under the Eight House Theory, the key element is to look out for areas that one spent time at. If one does not spent time at that sector, it is less relevant.
One should look at the intangible sectors of each room you mentioned especially the areas one spent time at e.g. the bedroom; living room area.

Dear Kyra,1. In my view, when we are uncertain whether a piece of advice will be effective, it is wise to refrain from placing the object in that particular location.
2. This aligns with the commonsense principles of Feng Shui.
3. For instance, many of us have encountered the notion that having a bedroom situated above a kitchen is considered 'inauspicious.' The reasoning behind this is based on common sense. In the event of a fire in the kitchen, smoke and flames rise, which would be unfavorable, especially if a fire were to occur there.
4. Likewise, if we position a mirror, such as one made of glass or silicone, near a heat source, the glass may not withstand the heat and could shatter into fragments.
5. Even worse, if an explosion occurs in the kitchen, such as from a gas leak, the glass could break and turn into dangerous projectiles.
6. Alternatively, one might opt for stainless steel panels that possess some reflective properties similar to a mirror in this context.
7. One reason some Feng Shui practitioners advise placing a mirror facing a stove is that, if the stove area is deemed AUSPICIOUS, they believe it can reflect and double the good fortune from that area. However, this approach can be risky, as it may also reflect and amplify bad luck.
8. Sector Feng Shui, or Feng Shui based on broad generalizations, can often lack personalization for the individual. Such generalizations are akin to stating that my career sector is in the North and my romance sector is in the Southwest.
9. It is intriguing to consider the analogy of three men in an office who are drawn to an attractive colleague.
10. All three men are aware that the Southwest corresponds to the romance sector, and authors of Feng Shui literature suggest that one can enhance this sector.
11. What transpired was that Male 1 placed 12 roses on his Southwest office desk. Male 2 noticed this and attempted to surpass his competitor by placing 24 roses on his own Southwest desk. Male 3, feeling envious, sought to outdo both of them.
12. He decided to place 99 roses on his SW office desk.

Dear Rochelle,
1. For info, it would normally be very inauspicous to see a spiral staircase, especially if one is standing at the main entrance facing inwards of the home. I hope that this is not your case.
2. Usually to `tame' the spiral staircase; two methods are used:-
2.1. Placement of plants around the staircase (ground level) especially the side facing outwards. For example if the spiral staircase is close to a wall, two potted plants can be placed on the `other side' to conceal part of the steps leading out of the staircase.
2.2. The placement of forks. Here, one can use two metal forks (those common fork and spoon) type of fork and aim it towards each side of the staircase i.e. symbolically to tame the staircase. Here, the fork can be placed e.g. on a decorative self or on a cabinet about waist height. Usually, a FS consultant should be consulted here. However, if you can upload a small sketch of this area, I can help you to see where is the best position / point to place the two forks.

Dear Jeffrey,1. I believe there are different views on what actions to take or avoid during the 7th month.
2. The key point is to refrain from traveling or being away from home (like camping, for instance).
3. Personally, I think it's still 'acceptable' to look at a house. However, some FS professionals might not fully agree with this.
Thus, we each need to decide for ourselves whether to proceed or not.
4. In my view, house viewing remains acceptable as long as no deposit is made on the property. If a deposit is paid, it can still be managed since most of the formalities, especially for new homes, are handled by lawyers who have a few weeks of flexibility, etc....
5. Regarding the idea of not 'offending' the spirits, it's advisable to view a home during the day, i.e., when it's Yang or bright, and to avoid viewing after 4:00 PM or at dawn.
6. Again, this is just my personal perspective. As I mentioned, opinions about the 7th month can vary widely among different people.

Presently, the information is too general to give you good advise.
You may like to look at the placement of the furniture e.g. computer table / work table based on:
1. Good Shapes and Form Feng Shui.
2. Utilise the Eight House Theory to see if the tables can be placed in good sectors for each member.
3. Take a look out of the window of these rooms to see if there are any poison arrows. What one cannot see, it no longer becomes a threat.

Yes, in my opinion, it is good to lit up the hallway.
For the falling water, normally, it is placed either outside the office e.g. the entrance or alternatively; within the reception counter area.
From your description, since this is a narrow hallway, it would be difficult to place a waterposition at this area.

bedroom location
in General Help
Posted
Dear Anon,
Thank you for your layout plan.
1. Based on Shapes and Form FS (without consideration to other Schools), in my opinion, I would prefer bedroom 1, which is above the laundry area as opposed to bedroom 2, above the kitchen.
2. Attached please find the layout plan: house.jpg which shows the preferred position of the bed in bedroom 1 and 2. Marked by a rectanglar in RED and in BLUE.
Depending on the window position, the head of bed if possible is preferred not to rest against a window.
3. I have marked the centrepoint of the home. Even if you are just renting a bedroom, you can take a compass reading of the house and check the `Eight House' of your room to see whether Bedroom 1 is better or Bedroom 2.
If Bedroom 2 is auspicious under the Eight House, then, you should try to use this room instead of Bedroom 1.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
