  2. Case Study 4A: DC fans offer several advantages over AC fans.

dc_motor_fan.jpg.904ed5266a6f070897b8ccf3e1358ac0.jpg1. AC fans have been in existence since the inception of electricity.

    2. In general, some may find that DC fans come with a higher initial cost. However, in the long run, operating expenses are lower with a DC fan. Therefore, it is advisable to calculate the costs.

    3. AC fans are designed to rotate in only one direction, which is why the fan blades are specifically optimized to push air downwards. 3.1. On the other hand, DC fans offer a unique advantage. They can be configured to rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise. This means that instead of pushing air downwards, they can also be adjusted to pull air upwards towards the ceiling. This feature is particularly beneficial for rooms with high ceilings, as it allows air circulation without the sensation of air blowing directly downwards.

    4. Is there a significant difference in the number of blades a fan should have?

4.1. Most ceiling fans typically have a minimum of 3 blades. Have you observed that many pedestal fans have more than three blades?

4.2. The number of blades is more related to practicality than Feng Shui. For instance, stealth helicopters are equipped with multiple blades, some even having 6 or more. The greater the number of blades, the smoother the airflow and noise level.

4.3. This explains why fans with one or two blades tend to wobble and produce excessive noise.

4.4. This concept is akin to that of a vehicle. A car with 3 cylinders can be quite noisy, similar to the loud sound produced by a passing motorcycle.

4.5. In contrast, a car with 6 or 8 cylinders, such as a modern V6, is often exceptionally quiet compared to a standard 4-cylinder car.

Case Study 4B: Theoretically, should a ceiling fan have the ability to draw in air rather than push it downwards, it COULD potentially cool a larger surface area.

1524549544_dcceilingfan.png.6532f73864be170cba88726f926c69cb.png1. If, for instance, the room is equipped with all glass windows.

    2. When the fan blade is adjusted to pull air in an upward direction.

    3. The air pulled by the fan will be directed downwards from the ceiling, as depicted in the illustration below.

    4. However, a room with glass windows and afternoon sun can create a greenhouse effect.

    5. Thankfully, glass is able to dissipate heat much more rapidly than a wall that has absorbed heat.

    6. It is important to be aware that not all AC fans are capable of reversing the direction of the fan blade's airflow from clockwise to counterclockwise.

    7. Nevertheless, not all DC fans come with this capability.

7.1. If you are considering purchasing a DC fan, please keep the above information in mind.

    8. Consider also the scenario of being in a living room. The option of blowing air upwards may or may not be suitable for your needs.

    9. In any case, if this method does not suit your preferences, you can always resort to the standard fan circulation.

    dc ceiling fana.png

  3. Case Study 2: In theory, if a ceiling fan can suck up air instead of blowing it downwards, MAY cool more surface area.

    1. For example, if the room has all glass windows.

    2. When the fan blade is "reversed" to pull air-upwards.

    3. The pulled air will flow from the ceiling downwards as shown in the illustration below:-

    1524549544_dcceilingfan.png.6532f73864be170cba88726f926c69cb.png

    4. Although room with afternoon sun and glass windows become a green house effect.

    5. Fortunately, glass dissipates heat much faster than a wall soaked with heat.

    6. Please take note that all AC fans cannot reverse the fan blade flow from say clock-wise to anti-clock-wise.

1196813763_dcceilingfana.png.eae7d3f17ea18f54e1ff1eeee5e07226.png7. However, not all DC fans have such a feature.

7.1. If you intend to buy a DC fan, please take note of the above.

    8. Imagine also, if one is in the living room. By blowing air upwards, it may or may not work for you.

    9. Anyway, if you can still use the normal method of fan circulation if this does not appeal to you...

  4. FAQ: Can you recommend an ID or contractor? I was often asked this question.

[1.] My reply is simply: Many clients have used various IDs/contractors.

1.1 There are just too many.

1.2 My two main considerations of not recommending any are:-

    [2.] ONE (1):

2.1 One can never guarantee consistency of service and quality.

2.2 Okay. What do you mean by this?

2.3 For example, sometimes unfortunately one can never tell whether that company may fold for one reason or another.

2.4 How am I going to justify to a client; if later, the ID/C runs away with their money or do a very bad job.

2.5 Sometimes, one can never know also that they have shortage of staff or provide shoddy services + products. Or cannot get along with the ID/company.

2.6 For this reason alone, I personally feel that I shouldn't ever be involved in any of these.

    [3.] TWO (2):

3.1. Am I comfortable with this person? This ID? If it is like a chicken talking to a duck... then that's it!

3.2. Personally, if I were to especially consider to hire an ID; one would have a feel of how he/she approach it.

3.3. Sometimes, if we have already gave the ID our inputs, yet, they come up with ideas that don't match our "wavelength" then it is good to eliminate them totally.

3.4. "Remember to stay there, they don't" Applies here!

3.5. Most importantly do check with friends or relatives and/or search for recent reviews...

Morale of this story is: "None of my business. Don't get me involved" LOL

  5. Many of us have a favourite stall.

And more often than not, thinking of eating the stall only when we arrive there to find out that it was closed.

This popular hawker stall knows this!

Thus sacrifice a handphone for this.

They may be small... but what a great customer service!

How I wish my favourite stall does this!

As the stall opens like 1 day and can close for the next three days!

  6. 1. On first impressions; as this is a condo.

    2. One would expect that the two common bin chutes are covered (each) by a door.

    3. For example: although this unit is not exactly next to the two common bins;

    4. Hopefully, all occupiers/residents co-operate and not leave rubbish below the bin chutes and or drip liquids.

    3FBF3EF5-59F5-4915-9CFF-73F02F0CE954.jpeg197EC45F-E398-4DD6-9A97-80D588A78A94.jpeg

    4. This photo shows the bins and the two units close-by:

4.1 The bins are closer to the four units closest to Block 101:-

    24FF2AD5-BDF0-4481-AA95-9BF4E2A96C82.jpeg

    5. Frankly, other than Hillion Residences where the developer Sim Lian included a small lobby to house the common bins;

5.1. Other developers certainly add a door .. some tough pastic, some metal, some even wooden doors.

5.2. Firstly, it is troublesome to having bring the rubbish and to open the door (some very heavy or tight springs) to try to manouvere and open the bin chutes...

    6. Thus, it is a "blessing in disguise" to be able to do such business fast!

6.1. I believe, this is one consideration.

    7. The next most important consideration has more to do with the bottom-line.

7.1. The maintenance costs of repairs and damages to these bin doors; the repainting or rusting doors ....

7.2. Not including hygiene.. the door handles are like Yucks! If the poor cleaners do not regularly disinfect both the doors and the handles.

    8. Thus, for Subsidiary Proprietors who bought it as a long term would not want to add this as an additional sinking fund replacement/repair costs. Which ultimately comes from their own pockets! Right!

    9. Anyway, there is no unit that faces directly towards these two common bins.

    10. Maybe... one of them later may or may not be converted into a re-cycling bin.. as there is no reason to have to bin chutes ... here...

2042441665_hillionresidencescommonbin.jpeg.4bd263cc78d305cc5d6828aec99f897d.jpeg11. Hillion Residences is the few or rather one and only condo at the moment that has an enclosed (door) lobby that uses an identical foot assisted rubbish bin opener. (See Photo)

    12. In addition, the enclosed bin lobby is completely tiled to allow the cleaners to safely wash the interior of the bins in this development.

URL of link to Hillion Residences Condo:

P.S. Generally, because of one "solid" base and two towners (twins) augurs well for future stable maintenance fees.

Given that compared to many other developments, the facilities are basically swimming + clubhouse + outdoor dining pavilion.

Frankly, if I own a unit here, it is good to be back to basics type of condo.

  7. 17.12.2019 Just T.O.P.

It is a mandatory requirement that all developments do fogging.. thus some new developments such as Dairy Farm Residences and Grand Sengkang Residences... which have spice gardens ..

Who dares to cultivate, harvest and makan them... LOL
