Is it true that a jack of all trades is a master of none?

Not necessary!

In the past, a butcher is a butcher and a merchant is a merchant.

Today, all of us must have multi-skills and most of all multi-task! Thus it is not surprised that many of us routinely perform more than one element in a job!

For example; a CEO may wear an accountant hat (Metal element); do strategic planning (Wood element); Customer Relations (Earth element); Marketing strategies (Fire element) and be an excellent communicator (Water element!)

In addition; there is the industry one is employed in and one's core job function.

Nowadays; the job is "close to one's heart" or one's core job function should be the main element. Thus; if this person has been employed as a "Marketing executive"; then his/her key role is : FIRE ELEMENT even though he/she may be in a different industry e.g. Authorised Agent of a brand of car e.g. Audi. (where the industry is the Metal element as predominantly the main component of a car is usually made up mostly of metal parts).
