October 1, 20169 yr Author Staff The benefit of a folding bike is it's portability. I will never secure it to a bicycle stand. However; whenever I visit a new development be it a condo / EC or especially a new HDB site; I will always look at their bicycle station railing. If you think you had seen it all; I have often come across some variations. For eg. This one at the newly Just T.O.P. HDB Angsana Green at Yishun; they use a common inverted U shaped design. But this time round; instead of using round steel tubes bent in an inverted U; this site uses square tubings. And the concealed bolts were badly concealed with revealing cement patches. This is also the inverted U-shape design. The only difference is that every two poles are close-to each other. No big bikes can squeeze in-between these two poles. August 10, 20178 yr Author Staff This bicycle rack design @ Bellewaters Sengkang. Perhaps, the security personnel at this development is the deterrent. Given that only the two support poles are thick. While the stretch of frame looks so thin and flimsy.. I believe a medium sized bolt cutter or a saw could easily breach these wires within seconds to just a few minutes... Nevertheless, it could park five (5) bicycles easily.. Luckily, it is so bulky; as this whole frame is secured to the concrete floor by only four exposed nuts. Contrast this to the Boon Keng (one article earlier) version.. worlds apart.
September 8, 20178 yr Author Staff The main frame is solidly cemented to the floor + stainless steel. Often gives a false sense of security for the novice. As they often only secure the front wheels! And a bicycle thief often leaves the lock and front wheels intact! This design is identical to the above as it. The main difference is that it is slanted at an angle and bolted to the planter side wall via a strip of stainless steel bar. Location: The National Library at Middle Road:

December 4, 20178 yr Author Staff This bicycle rack can be found beside the Taxi stand if The Star at Buona Vista. It looks more like a stylish stainless steel stump. But it’s weakness is that at most it may help to secure the front-wheel. Or if got a large wire lock the body of a bicycle. There were many bicycle that had their valuable body + rear stolen. As the front wheels can easily be detached from the rest of the bike! Must have been designed by a non bike user! Look good. But lousy way to secure a bicycle! Flexible wire chain locks are one of the easiest to breach:-
December 4, 20178 yr Author Staff This type of design is a variation of the “thick-u-pipe” design. Only thing is it has a more “sexy” curve that the usual U poles that we seen at several MRT stations in Singapore: such as at Boon Keng or Mountbatten. Such a pole is preferred over that at The Star ( which I previously mentioned in an earlier thread). As a user can comfortably use one or several locks such as the recommended U-lock to secure several parts of their bike.

August 23, 20187 yr Author Staff False sense of security...as the rider only secured the front wheel. Someone could easily unbolt the front wheel, leave it intact and cart away the rest of the bicycle. Imagine if this is a high end bicycle.
