our builder is building this design pergola and the rafter either side will have to point next to the house. Anything we can do to remedy?

Hi Cecil: how are you? I have making little progress renovating the house.. this time, we are putting in a wood pergola in our East facing patio backyard. You mentioned something about the rafter facing the house before.. our builder is building this design pergola and the rafter either side will have to point next to the house. Anything we can do to remedy?  Does the rafter tail design helps a bit? Pic following
