Divorce is the root cause of dsyfunctional generation all around the world. As a result of divorce so many single mothers are forced to live below the poverty line since most of the time they spend in fighting custody battles or child support battles. Parents use their young children as pawn to get back at each other or are constantly fighting about how to raise them. Some parents just abandon their children since they are not able to deal with the pressure or to get out of paying child support. Some children become the punching bags of the step parents. Result of divorce is insecure, lonely children with low self esteem with poor role models as fighting or abusive parents. And these same children grow up to do the same things which they learned from their parents. So this vicious cycle continues. Its the joke of century since parents divorce saying that the constant fighting will damage the physical and mental well being of their children. They don't realize that if they don't get along now then they cant become saints after divorce and start seeing eye to eye.
Anyway, to make the story short. I wanted to know how divorce is impacting family unit in China? Do men pay child support? Is divorce peace ful process? Do divorced parents civil to each other and put the welfare of child first? Thanks.

Dear Anon,
Quite recently, there was a news article on divorce in China. The main cause
of what I read was that the men in China are getting more `well off' and
some of these men engaged in illict affairs. Usually, the women are more
forgiving but usually it is the men who initiated the divorce.
Divorce is indeed an `ugly' word all over the world. It leaves a scar on the
innocent child or children.
Yes, based on what I read, divorce is gaining a foothold and increasingly
place an impact on the family unit in China. Usually, the poor wife has
difficulty getting child support and may need to work to raise their child
in China or she may instead get support from her close relatives. In most
cases, the wife gets custody of the child as the spouse sets off to `start'
another family in China.
