My house facing West and Sits East. The main door we use is West, but our front door actully is Southwest. I have a hill (mountain) behind my house, but I also want to put a waterfall in the backyard. Is this a good idea. If so what size? I have friend thats house has is in the same direction, and the door they use is actually in the same spot as my main door and she was advised to put a waterfall in her back yard instead of her front yard.....Please advise

Dear Vicki,
1. There are two major theories/concepts to refer to on the placement of water positions.
2. The two major concepts are:-
2.1 Shapes and Form Feng Shui
Here, it would depend on the type of water position.
If the water position is flat e.g. a ground level pond e.g. for koi fish etc... than this can be represented by `clear space'.
But if it is a fish tank, usually the fish tank is tall with leg stand, than it cannot represent `clear space'.
`Clear space' is akin to a bird flying freely infront ... unobstructed.
Usually water positions that provide clear space are especially good at the frontage of the home.
While fish tank should be placed against a wall.
Hong Kong Feng Shui practitioners usually use fish tank next to a window to `cure' poison arrow e.g. a lone lamp post slicing thru the window.
Here, there are two components in the fish tank: goldfish which represents the metal element and water represents the water element. The above combination is used to neutralise e.g. the `threat'.
2.2 Flying Star Feng Shui
Here, it depends on whether one wants to use this theory or not. If one uses this theory, than it is used to check for any imbalances at a sector and how the water element of say the fish tank may affect that particular sector.
3. It would be good to have the hill at the back of your home as it represents a tortise or `solid backing' for your home.
4. In my opinion, it would not be a good idea to place a waterfall in the backyard as water should best be utilised at the frontage of the home.
My advice to you is "If it is not broken, don't fix it".
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
