Frankly, if Traditional Feng Shui is being applied, there are many principles involved in accessing both the home; the `fit' of the home to your parents (breadwinner); the birth chart of the house and even Pillars of Destiny of each family member.
Another instance is that a North-East house (main door facing) may need additional attention especially since this is the (NE = devil's gate).
