Posted April 7, 200223 yr Staff Dear Yang Ming, 1. Usually, in a small island like Singapore, you're surrounded by the sea on every side. 2. Depending on where you are, the way the sun heats the land (which gets hotter) compared to the sea, along with changes in high and low pressure, can cause air to move from the land to the sea and the other way around. 3. As a result, air can come in from either side of the house. 4. However, if a bunch of windows or the main door is shut, air can't flow in from one side of the window to the other. 5. If air is only coming in from one part of the house, especially in a new build, it might mean that air is being pulled in from the building's shape into that area. 6. Actually, it would be better if it were the other way around, letting air come in from either the main door or the front windows. This is shown in the diagram attached. 7. All in all, the main issue comes up when too many clothes are hung to dry or things like mops or cleaning supplies are left on the service balcony, particularly since air moves from this space into the house.
