Dear Cecil,
I am not even sure if this query would have anything to do with feng shui, but here goes anyway:
I have recently placed a red welcome mat (yes, a red mat with a big golden "welcome" word on it) on my apartment's balcony for practical purposes. Will this denote that I am inviting "something" to come? FYI, I have not place any altars in the apartment.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Joe,
1. Yes, this is not Feng Shui; but rather can be loosely classified as `beliefs'.
2. In my opinion, (or frankly), I don't think that there is an issue here.
3. If we disregard my comments under Para 2, personally, I would not place a `Welcome' mat at the balcony if it leads to `nowhere'.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
