some books say that in order to have good luck in relationships, you have to have two night stands by the bed on each side?

Dear Anon,
1. Perhaps, we can look at it from a different perspective:
2. Could one night light imply "ONE NIGHT STAND?" Or worse if there are two night stands? Does it mean that one of the spouse has "TWO NIGHT STANDS?". *JOKE*
3. Frankly, these are pretty minor in Feng Shui. But on an asthetic side, often, a queen bed seem to look `more balanced' or uniform with two lamps on each side. Then again, it is not very critical in Feng Shui.
4. Here, we can look at it also from "commonsense" approach i.e. it would be more convenient at night for each partner to turn on and off the light when they go to e.g. the bathroom or outside the hall.
Otherwise, the next time, if you happen to visit a friend's home or even a relative's home: and find only one night light - most likely - that partner is `hand-pecked' or alternatively "the controller" of lights?
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
