In order to find the center of an L-shaped house you suggest to split it and determine 2 centres. Instead of the pointing at the front door with a compass from the center, do I point to the entrance door of the 2 parts of the house? Or should I still use the front door.

Simply orientate the markings in each L-shaped rectangle to the compass markings e.g. North-North template, South to South - true compass directions.
