Hi there,
I read somewhere (I could be incorrect) that putting water element related things in the fire element direction can have disastrous results - particularly for someone who benefits from the fire element.
Is the same (but to a lesser extent for me) true of putting say metal element things in a wood direction or vice versa?
I'm an earth person (earthling?) so wood is not beneficial for me, if I want to mask a sharp edge, is it sufficient to just cover it with something (other than a trailing plant)? If so, does anybody have any ideas that they use?

Yes, in the natural destruction cycle, water destroys fire. Well, you are relating this directly with the Kua element direction of the bagua. Such as South being Fire.
The proper thing you should look out is an overly strong influence of a certain element.
A little of each element in every portion is ok. You see, you need to have a little of each elements even destructive elements in your life. Only when you have a balance of everything can you draw the strengths from them for whatever you do.

All these are based on the Five Elements cycles.
Production Cycle = Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth.
Destruction Cycle = Metal, Wood, Earth, Water, Fire.

For any sha qi, so long as you cover it, it is fine. You can use nearly anything of your imagination to cure the sharp edges.
Warmest Regards
