Dear Cecil & Robert & Forumers:
This is probably not under the Feng Shui umbrella (but maybe related to =the Pillars of Destiny?). Does changing the characters of ones chinese =name, thus changing the stroke count and element relation, has any =effect on a person's life/destiny? For eg, if one were lacking in fire =in the POD, would having addition of fire element into one's name be =beneficial? Or having a stroke count that adds up to a certain =beneficial element?

Yes, in the past, many Feng Shui Masters use elements found in the name to help suppliment the lack of an element in the birth chart.
This is considered the immediate cure for a new born baby to change his or her luck. As you know a person's name is most often used so it does have some impact on the person.
Generally, from a name, it does provides certain characteristics and is pretty related to Feng Shui's Pillars of Destiny.
Just like when my nephew was born end last year, I choose a name using this art to compliment his existing birth elements (from the Pillars of Destiny), especially areas which he lacks. And true enough, he is turning out to be very strong and active, just as his name has predicted.
Naming or Pillars of Name
=========================
For those users who are not aware, Pillars of Name is the ancient art of analysing a person's destiny using his or her name. This applies strongly to Chinese names only. There are some common English names being represented.
I actually wanted to put up a module for it, but as it requires users to have Chinese Character support for it, I have decided to put this development on hold.
How it works?
=============
Simply every chinese character has a specific stroke which is divided into the Five Element and Yin & Yang, with the various choice of characters, a person's destiny can be revealed.
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee
