Dear Sophia,

In my opinion, what you had mentioned has more to do with perception / symbolic gesture of "dignity" accorded to the statues be it alive or "dead".

Where possible, often, it is placed in the living room facing the seat/sofa.

Thus, it is best to place the figurines on a proper display area e.g. on the shelf or display table etc..
