A common solution for a beam above the bed is the use of two bamboo flutes as shown below:-

A more elaborate use of the "phoenix" and "dragon flute":-

The two other alternatives are:-

1. A quarter shaped "flower". A rough sketch is shown, below. And the use of bamboo, flute in the position as shown below.

THE MYTH ABOUT FALSE CEILING

However, if it is a false ceiling or a low false ceiling, this is not the same as a beam. Since, firstly, the material is not made of concrete. And secondly, it is usually wider area.

And in my opinion, it has more to do with one's feeling (to some who had read too many Feng Shui books) may rather become "uncomfortable" with the thought of a "beam" above their head as against the real "impact" on the person.

THE MYTH ABOUT DOUBLE DECKER BEDS

Some of us feel very concerned about having our children sleep in a double-decker bed. The rationale was because they felt that the double-decker upper bed "acts" like a beam on the person sleeping below.

But, if one looks carefully, the entire surface of the upper bed is flat and not concentrated like a beam.

For many years, many people have slept in one and do not suffer ill effects! Nowadays, double decker beds are still everywhere! In congested countries like Hong Kong, in university dormitories. And even in Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) camps! Many who slept under one, have graduated and lived happy lives.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
