Dear Anon,

Frankly, in the past most of the "Feng Shui" of a shopping complex is done-up either based on intuition or via Feng Shui advice on the construction i.e. type of external design of say a shopping complex.

Here, if a geomacer is tasked the job, he will do an environmental scanning of the surrrounding buildings andadvise on the type of structure. For example, if the neighbourhood is made up of largely of earth buildings or buildings that are squarish or rectangular in shape, a geomancer may advise that the owner build a building is in the form of a wood element e.g. tall structure e.g. like a trunk.

For example, for those in Singapore, good examples are:

1. BANKS: DBS (Development Bank of Singapore) LTD vs UNITED OVERSEAS BANK (UOB)

The HQ of DBS bank or Shentonway Tower 1 and 2 is in the shape of a rectangular type of building or known as earth element building.

UOB's HQ building is in the form of a tree or wood element.

Imagine the roots of a tree crushing into the soil or earth.

2. The Merriot Hotel (formerly Tangs) at Scotts vs the neighbourhood

Most of the surrounding buildings near to this landmark is of the earth element type e.g. Wisma Atria and other buildings nearby resemble earth structures.

The above is to illustrate that more importantly, the external environment is the most crucial for Feng Shui. Such as the frontage, water positions outside of or within the complex (office or shops).

3. In the past, it is very rare for retail outlets to have water positions SIMPLY because of the limited real-estate space to sell! And, most of the time, water position within this retail space may not be able to tap on good feng shui because that it is simply too small.

4. Nowadays, here: the idea is "YOU ASK, YOU GET" type of responses.

5. In the past, when buildings are constructed, some developers consult geomancers. Nowadays, even small retail shops get geomancers. And because there is not much else to do, these geomancers would thus recomend fish tank etc.. since, there is relatviely nothing much more (visible) or invisible that can be said to be "Feng Shui".

6. The morale of the story is that what is more important is the location, location and location PLUS business model.

So, do you think placing a fish tank in a retail will work?

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
