Dear Anon,

Yes, this is a Chinese belief. As it was felt that attending someone else's wedding soon after our own wedding is considered a "clash" and thus inauspicious to do so.

One should wait until at least six-months after one's wedding before attending other people's wedding.

This is part of the "older-Chinese-generation" belief.

Since your parents are fully against both of you attending your friend's wedding, it is best to follow their instructions.

As to whether something bad ... is another matter which according to the "clash" if possible, try to avoid doing so.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Dear Anon,

Yes, it is after your wedding and not before. Thus if one's wedding is 3 months time and if the wedding is tommorrow or in two months time; there is no issue in attending your friend's/relative's wedding.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
