Generally, any alter should follow the following rules:-

1. The altar should not face the main door entrance. This is like employing the god as a security guard for the house.

2. Try if possible not to let the altar face the dining table as the god will be looking at the food while you eat.

3. Try not to have the toilet located directly behind the wall that you place the altar.

4. The altar should not face into the bedroom.

Generally, it is best to place the altar looking say out towards the living room window.
