Dear Anon,

For landed properties (with privacy) all round e.g. no tall buildings that can have a view or peer into the home thru the sky light, the use of sky light is acceptable!

In ancient Chinese buildings, or homes may homes have an open court-yard akin to letting light into the home or close to the concept of the skylight.

The only issue is to avoid placing a single tree in the middle of the home and have a skylight shining down. In the past, I had mentioned that this is similar to the word "KUN" in Chinese and very inasupicious. However, if there is no single lone tree, it is still acceptable.

Nowadays, in Singapore, many terrace homes resort to adding transparent roof tiles above their house staircase to bring in light into the home. This is perfectly acceptable and a "wise" choice!

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
