If you havegood compass with magnetic shielding to prevent interference. Those reading will usually not be affected too much by other influence from the house or building structure.

If not like the earlier post, take a few readings. Especially take one which is on a clear space slightly away from your home. See if there are any deviation from that reading and the one taken at your home. The one furthers away from any major building or power lines will tend to give you a good reading to check against any deviation.
