Generally, you should first activate the direct water star first:-

This means that for a period 8 house, you activate the direct water star 8 or direct mountain star 8, first. Only when you cannot activate them, then you consider the next future water/moutain wealth star 9.

If you are unable to activate the above, but your house does have the indirect spirit of 8 at the South-West sector which happens tobe your living roomfor example, then youcan try to activate the indirect wealth star.

So you normally only activatethe directspirit first, only when you can't and then try to activate the indirect spirit if your house.
