Fish Tanks positioning(2)
Dear Anon, 1. After reading your past message, looks like your husband is into fish rearing in a "big way" given that there is something like5 fish tanks in your 4 room apartment. 2. In such a situation, you may have to go on a "hobbist approach" vs looking at it from the compass school of Feng Shui e.g. Flying Star Feng Shui, which you perhaps, do not have any knowledge at all. For Flying Star Feng Shui, the best approach is that if you want to find out more, feel free to search further into the topic. As it would not be fair to go into it in this or other message. Since, such topics can easily be found if one - exercise their fingers hard enough. Given that this is a self-help forum. 3. Given this situation, you may have see how well you can place the fish tanks against "available" wall space available in your home. 4. If all family members are "tolerant" with having fish tanks around, then, this is the best approach based on a hobbist type of senario. 5. When I mentioned a "hobbist" approach, it has to do therefore, with especially husband/spouse tolerating each other's "exceptional" hobbies. 6. In your situation, I can therefore only say therefore, that it is based on a practiacl approach given that usually, fish tank(s) are placed firstly in the living room (to be viewed for enjoyment) and in some instances, some hobbist even resort to placing in the kitchen (kinda of no choice - no space) especially if there is no extra study room in the home. If so, some may consider placing it in the study room. There are instances, where, I have seen fish "franatics" even place them in the toilet area! Therefore, given your type of senario, there is simply no luxury or choice. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Bed placement
Dear Joan, In the Feng Shui point of view, this is considered inasupicious. Especially, if one sleeps "sandwiched" between two concrete columns or beams: In particularit depends on the size of the beams as well as the distance between it from the bed. And also, the shape of the beam. If the beam is squarish or rectangular in shape, there is an added "sha qi" or poison arrow aimed towards the bed. In the case of the wooden cabinet, it would also depend on one's comfort level. For example, whenever you sleep on the bed, do you feel comfortable? Can sleep properly or not. Some of this aspect also has to do with the condition on one's mind.

Type of House
Dear Vivien, Please see below:- Usually, many FS practitioners consider the frontage as the location where: 1. there is often "clear space". For example, such as often, the car drives up to the front of the home (and /or) 2. There is a noticeable distinction of having a living room at the frontage and where often, the back is much part of the kitchen/ storeroom/backyard / laundry area. 3. Often also, if a home is "back-to-back" with one another, many homes have their back with the back of it's neighbour's home. 4. Please note that the above is not conclusive but rather, it depends on each individual situation. But it should be quite a reasonble guide. 6. Technically speaking, since your home has been built and if it is FULLY COMPLETED before February 2004, it could still be considered as a Period 7 home. This is a valid consideration. 7. However, we have heard or we can do certain activities to fly this home to a Period 8 home. And this has been explained in this forum in detalied already. 8. Our lives revolve around HOPE. And we should instead, try to check both Period 7 and Period 8 chart of the home. 9. We should ask this question: Which Period is better for the home? 10. If say, Period 7 is better, than, we should try to minimize activities that could change this to a Period 8 home. 11. However, if it is found that Period 8, is better, we could fly into this new period. 12. What happens if we are not too sure whether to fly into Period 8 or not? 13. We could instead, wait and see. Since, we can still have the best of the two worlds, right now. This is because, once we fly into Period 8, we cannot "hit-the-undo" button and fly back to the past!

Toilet In Relationship Sector
Dear Rich, In my view, it is generally advisable to refrain from applying the concepts of the Eight Aspirations or Life associations, such as SW equating to the romance sector, etc. Moreover, if the toilet happens to obstruct our romantic endeavors, it signifies a definitive end; we are indeed in a precarious situation! Let us consider an alternative viewpoint. Frequently, the toilet transcends the mere notion of the "THRONE" or the WC, which I refer to as the equivalent of the toilet bowl. In reality, numerous master bathrooms not only feature showers but some even include jacuzzis and bathtubs! Envision this! I firmly believe that in this world, when discussing "toilet romance," I can assure you that in any city or country, there may be instances where babies are "conceived" in the toilet, perhaps even on the toilet seat! Just picture it! Placing two couples in such a "confined" space! To be candid, the next time anyone mentions "dirty" toilets, we can also add a twist with "dirty toilet talk," especially if we introduce two couples of the opposite sex into the scenario! Have you heard this dialogue? Son: How did I come into existence? Mother: OH! DEAR ME! I dread this question! Father: We must be completely honest with our son, DEAR! Why don’t you enlighten him! Mother: Son (in a trembling voice), "WOULD YOU BELIEVE, YOU WERE CONCEIVED IN THE TOILET?" Son: HUH? ARE YOU JOKING? Father: GULP! NO!, Son, this is indeed true! I can attest to it! I HAVE WITNESSED IT ALL! Son: IT SEEMS ONE DAY, I WILL INHERIT YOUR THRONE! *BY THE WAY* This conversation among the father, mother, and son occurs within a family of royal lineage! Let us alter our perception that toilets are not as filthy as they are often portrayed! Cheers! Warmest Regards, Cecil

relationship with son
Dear Elena, To be truly honest, Feng Shui is not a cure all. In my opinion, this has more to do with man/human relationship issues. And I personally feel other feels have a better success rate in analysing and finding a better solution to your son's problems. For example, things like getting someone who is closer to your son to understand his needs (frustrations) better. For example, teachers or someone your son had often confided etc.. Often, there is also two sides of the coin on this issue and we need to understand, what went "wrong" and how to proceed in a "stable" manner. Or if family members are unable to do so, it is better to seek some professional advise or counsel to help deal with to help progess in this situation. In Singapore, there are often cases where some seek the advice of temple mediums. And, the mother, would bring back some charms, burn it and stir it in a cup of water for the son to drink it. Does it work? I personally, don't think so! Warmest Regards, Cecil

House hunting : a lot position
Dear Elena, Frankly, although qi energy is often a consideration in Feng Shui, but rather, often, there is an underlining reason: based often on a commonsense approach. Be it in the guise of Feng Shui or practical sense. For example, on the statement of "building a wall at the back to prevent qi from escaping ". In a commonsense approach, if we look at this from a wider picture, this seems a very good point. Not so much of the view that 'qi could escape" but rather, - once in a while, sometimes we read of landslides. Sometimes, even the best homes build on a stable foundation uphill, could not stand the force of gravity. Especially an unfortunate very heavy downpour (perhaps of several days) plus a weaked reinforcement. Here, perhaps, as a last resort, a solid wall at the back would help to either reduce the impact (hopefully) of such a landslide, coming down directly towards our home. For the back, often, we can still control this by covering such drains with removable concrete or even aluminium sheets. Here, if we do not see it flowing out, it is still ok. And a wall behind us, should be of a certain heigth (and perferably with openings to let air in). And strategically, at the point where the drain water flows out to a bigger drainage, this area, should not be seen, if possible within our compound of the house.

Any value in house trigram chart?
Dear Regina, In a recent sicence world documentary, it was found that a University of London study found that: 1. Patients trying to recover from a dental surgery or pulling of the teeth often have a swelling on their cheek. 2. In the University of London study, a group was given pacebo ("sugar coated pill") and someone attended to the patient with an ultrasonic machine (turned off) but this attendant goes thru the motion of "rubbing" this "high-tech" equipment on the person's cheek. 3. Based on the documentary, nearly 60 percent of this respondent (patients) fair better than anyone else who were not given such a "treatment" and drug. 4. One conclusion was that if one has a receptive mind or open towards the hope of getting better thru science could most likely recover better. 5. Here, hope or man-luck is important. 6. Thus, I often mentioned, that the greater picture for a home is really not so much of the interior (first) but rather, the wider exterior extending from the Landscape, the site and lastly, a smaller percentage goes to the 4 walls of our home. 7. Yes, some books do oftengive an indication of the good qi flow for a specific period i.e. annualgood qi flow. 8. Like all maps, this is just a cross-slice of the bigger information flow. 9. This annual qi within a sector is akin toperhaps one single matrix. But, it is always better to look at not just the annual stars but also the wider 20 Year star and so on. 10. Book authors must make money, and also "write something".But because in a book, the author often cannot go into too detailed specifics. And often this is quite difficult. 11. However, one good comes out of this book is that it serves as an awarnessthat there is such thing as qi flow e.g. flying star feng shui even if it is only on a yearly value. 12. We can also draw a parallel from here: Many books writes about this general annual qi flow. It can beconsidered as an equivalent of a person riding a scooter. As we all know, what separates a scooterist or a motorcylist in an accident is his body vs another vehicle. As well as the motorcylists ability to fly thru the air - and seriously hurting himself - and many times can result in a fatality. However, for those who go or dwelldeeper using muchmore analysis, could be in my opinion, considered as driving a much safer car. If it is done OK, perhaps more like driving a VOLVO. And if done in an excellent manner could be equated to driving a Rolls Royce. Even ifwe only drive a normal saloon vehicle today, it would be equipped with e.g. ABS brakes and air-bags. Therefore, I feel that book authors often cannot or may not or would nottobe able to go deeper into personalisation in Feng Shui. In my opinion, many of us also want to search for either an answer (to our needs) or needs to be "in-control" of our life. And what better to see and "feel" that by reading these articles or topics, we could either have hope to better control our destiny or feel comforted by the fact that "OH!, my room has bad qi -- no wonder, this has been happening to me! " If you know, what I mean.... Warmest Regards, Cecil

House: Street address 44. How to fix bad feng shui
Dear Chrissie, In my opinion, honestly, I feel that a house number on it's own may not be the main cause of the problems or issues. Often, there is much more than this i.e. much more leaks in the home to give such a negative impact in your life. Wishing you all the best in the sale of your house! In the meantime, take care! Fish Tanks positioning
Further to what I mentioned, Oops! I forgot: I strongly believe many house-husbands will not be so forgiving as all the great mums around! Most like, he could "accidentally, let loose these dogs, rabbits and other pets. And if the house-dad's do get too angry, these dogs may end up being shipped to Beijing, China to be served as dog meat, rabbit meat etc...! Frankly, in my opinion, if one is starting to rear fish, then, it is best not to go for three tanks at one go. Try out one and go from there, Warmest Regards, Cecil

Fish Tanks positioning
Dear Mrs Koh, In my opinion, there are two ways of looking at this: 1. Are we keeping fishes (for personal enjoyment - hobby)? or 2. Are we keeping fishes on the basis that we have read that they can bring us wealth? I am not sure why, but often, there is much success if one keeps it as mentioned under Para 1. Perhaps, there are side beneifits like feeling happy or feel cozy or comfortable having the responsiblity of rearing and enjoying the view of these fishes. In my opinion, many people who keep fishes just for the sake of keeping them, will either - get tired, some even feel that it is a dread of maintaining them. These are persons, who one day give up rearing fishes after finding "no tangible" results e.g. getting wealth in return of rearing such fishes. I feel that perhaps, sometimes, the intangible results of rearing fishes outweigh such "expected" rewards. Here, the intangible results of feeling happy or feeling proud of having taking much effort to rear the fishes, keep them healthy, clean, well maintained and looking nice. Here, often such owners, as mentioned, have a certain satisfaction and feel comfortable just looking at their fishes. This is why, sometimes, given this "man-human" luck factors, many of us, place the fish tank at a strategic location e.g. in the living room. In your case, you could do the same. However, if one applys Flying Star Feng Shui, then, check to see if the fish tank could be placed at a location with a Water Star (WS) WS#8 current water wealth location or at locations with e.g. double #7's. or locations that e.g. have #6 (strong metal). Frankly, if one is a new hobbist, it may take much effort to maintain a three tier fish tank. Often, most people go for a maximium of two tiers (would be considered) quite a large "investment". For the "non-hobbists" who see fish tank as a means of obtaining wealth, would therefore, not last long. Here, we often see young children, asking their parents to purchase pet rabbits, tortises or even dogs. But who often ends up as the "servant" of these pets. In the past two decades, it would be guaranteed the mum. But nowadays, if one is the house-husband, he should have to bear it all. Warmest Regards, Cecil

what is more important?
Dear Anon, Frankly, it depends. This is because if one is the boss, than, one can easily face either way and no one can "talk-bad-about" us. For example, in Singapore, a person or the boss who usually has his own personal room, often employs a FS practitioner to best orientate his/her office table. And many staff under him or even the entire company is aware that he/she has engaged a practitioner to look at the best position of office and his specific room arrangement. However, if one does it alone; for example, if the rest of the colleagues face a specific direction, then, it would be best that you (the person) face a smiliar position. Since, facing a different direction could perhaps "invite talk" or symbolically show that one is either a "non-conformer" or in this case, facing the window with the door behind could imply that one "turns his/her back" to the work or others. Often, as much as we like to face a good direction, we also need to understand the mechanics of office-politics/teamwork and such gestures could be taken as a negative to us - if interpreted the wrong way. Given this, sometimes, it is still better to "conform" to the norm or most likely this often goes along the Shapes and forms type of school as opposed to the Compass school Feng Shui. Warmest Regards, Cecil

New Office
Dear Peter, 1. Yes, in your situation, Shapes and Forms would often prevail over our best position - based on the Eight House theory. 2. Even if our facing direction is not favourable, it would be worse off to sit with our back against a door. (Especially if the door is frequently used). 3. One can draw a parallel to the "modern" house-hunter. Nowadays, for example, many breadwinners belong to the West house group. And just because, they read that West directions are the most favourable for them. As a result, especially in Singapore, there are many people who continue to buy homes that face west or east-west or have bedrooms at the west. Without realising that these are very warm houses. And it would be worse if the sun shines on the same wall as the e.g. masterbedroom wall. Often, in a sunny day, even after 7.00pm, one could still feel the heat radiating from the walls. If one can afford to turn on the aircon all day long - I cannot say anything else. But, often, for such west facing homes, the living room and other bedrooms are also affected by the afternoon sun. Most of us, leave home and go to the office - escaping the afternoon heat. But what happens to our poor children or parents / parents-in-law? They will have to "confront" the heat most of the time. Already, many children have difficulties with their studies and concentration. Do we think that it is fair for our loved ones tosuffer more? And, if we do not change homes, they will suffer for "the rest" of their lives with us. The morale of the story is that all these directions should be considered as "NICE-to-have" and not a "MUST-have" situation. This is why, I often mentioned a North-South home is one of the safest bet in a warm country like Singapore. In addition, even if our earth luck e.g. sitting position is not so good, we should try to improve on our man/human luck factors. Warmest Regards, Cecil

bedroom color
Dear Anon, I believe there are two sides of the "coin": 1. Usually, on one side of the coin, even if we are correct, the person who owns the house has a major say or decision. 2. In my opinion, to equate South = fire element is quite a raw analysis. And therefore, should not be relied on totally. 3. Under the Traditional Feng Shui, when painting a room, it is based on two steps: 3.1 Flying Star of that specific sector Under the Flying Star theory, it does not mean that South = fire and fire is at this sector. Contrary to this, it is best to look at the relationships of all three elements : MS # with WS # with Base #. And work out what is the element either absent or should be avoided at this sector. 3.2 Only after determining - under Para 3.1, can we proceed to see if we can match the Ba Zi auspicious colours for the person staying in this room. For example, after analysis the Flying Star of this room, it was found that e.g. this room could have MS#3 with WS#3 (both bad wood) with Base #1. In such a situation, we can than say that green is inauspicious since, #3 x 2 are bad wood elements. Thus coincidentally - match your dad's fear of using green, here. Not just because south = fire. 3.3 What is your element and strength? Frankly, it is not just good enough to say that your element is "earth". but whether is it BIG EARTH or small earth? If you are a big earth element or strong earth element, then your favourable colours are:- Metal (white or gold), Water (blue, black or grey)and Wood (green or brown) But if you are a Weak Earth person, then the best auspcious elements for you are : 1. Fire (red, pink or purple). 2. Earth (yellow, cream or beige). The above is often the method used to deduce the final analysis on whether a colour suits one or not. As mentioned above, if your dad seems to reject your colours totally, then, if he owns the home, it is best to accept his decision. What is more important is the area of "Man or human " luck must be in harmony. It is no point having good Earth (feng shui luck) but at the expense of human luck such as getting into quarrels or fights or disagreements. Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee

house on the coner
Dear Elena, Frankly, in the past, many FS practitioners are concerned about corner units - especially units that are "hidden" from view. This was because, perhaps, if the home is in a undeveloped area, it was felt that such a home may be affected by "theft" or thieves climbing into the home. Therefore, the above is based on such a commonsense approach to Feng Shui. But nowadays, with modern survillenance anddeterent, such as survillenance equipment and active or passive safe-guard, this is no longer a major issue. More importantly, under the "Water Classic", it is good to check out that water can flow or be seen to flow into the front of the home. But, behind the home, it should best that all drains e.g. flowing into an external drain be covered. Here, water should not be seen from the back of the home out of the house. (here, as mentioned above, water drainage should be covered up towards the exit point). Equally important, check to see if the drainage does not flow from the side or outside of the compound to the back of the home. For a corner unit, especially if it is larger than the rest can, be designed such that a vehicle can "turn" into the home. This is where, the main entrance should be where possible "protected" from the direct view of the main gate area. Frankly, otherwise, it is correct to say that a corner home shares in-common some of the good and bad points of any other home. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Can or Cannot Go to Condo Site
Dear Anon, In my opinion, this is perfectly alright and no need to check for an auspicious date as yet. This is also because we have not gotten the key as yet - and thus has "no ownership" of it as yet. In the past, many of us, took the opportunity to view our uncompleted homes (many times) and there should not be any issue. This is because in the past, there were very few condos and when the site was quite near completion, one could virtually slip in to take a view especially in the evening when the workers had generally stopped work. A more practical issue is to either borrow a hard-hat or keep away from open space (i.e. falling objects etc..) So go for it! Cheers! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Flying Star Cure
Dear Theresa, Yes, metal is a good solution given that it creates a three-element flow ie. Under the productive sequence, there is a three combination, "auspicious" flow Earth - Earth - In the period 8, I would like to activate the sector of my house with water star 8, however it comes with a combination of mountain star 1, water star 8 and base star 5. As earth controls water and weaken self, prosperity will be withhold or weakened. I was told to place metal to neutralize the effect, but I wonder by implementing metal will it strengthen water and further weaken prosperity star 8? What is the best solution? This sector is painted green. Would appreciate advice.

Man (Human Luck) vs purchasing of products
Dear All, 1. Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew has consistently avoided having statues or portraits of himself displayed, despite his remarkable success. 2. In contrast, dictators often promote themselves through grandiose statues and propaganda photos. However, history has shown the downfall of such dictators in countries like Poland and Iraq. This analogy can be applied to the deceptive practices of certain Feng Shui practitioners who exploit unsuspecting individuals by selling them subpar products under the guise of Feng Shui. 3. These unethical practitioners tarnish the reputation of Feng Shui and deceive people for their own financial gain. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Man (Human Luck) vs purchasing of products
Dear All, Nowadays, I do get messages (an extract) such as this statement:- "Will there be a lot of purchases needed if the house 'fengshui' is no good? One of my friend needs to spend about S$2K to purchase lots ofstuffs " Many Feng Shui practiitioners are trying to enrich themselves by not only doing "Feng Shui" but also pushing products. This will certainly make them (the practitioners) "filthy rich" at our expense. If one reads the many messages in this forum, one can understand that many people who had purchased such products simply do not get results. Spread the word around with your friends that such practices are akin to "con-games". Let's put a stop to such non-sense - if we can! Simply don't support these people who hide under the guise of "Feng Shui" to tempt our greed. This is because many of the products are produced cheaply but sold at such a high mark-up to us! Recently, we were invited to a Feng Shui fair at SAFRA. I met this Chinese Feng Shui practitoner. He also shares the same understanding that products are literally "rubbish". To the extend that he also checked with the organiser that if anyone sells such products were invited to the fair, he will also not attend it. The morale of the story "Normal people don't buy such products. Perhaps ONLY ABNORMAL people buy them. So,do you want to be normal or abnormal?" Warmest Regards, Cecil

Double 7 at Bedroom
Dear Emily, In my opinion, instead of going-head-on at looking at ways to neutralise this bad stars, it is good to check (long-term)whether your home can or cannot benefit from "flying" to Period 8. In particular what are the stars in the bedroom. Is it much better in Period 8 or the same? For this room, in particular, try to avoid having too much earth tones or in particular avoid Yellow. Since earth can further fuel metal (#7 x2). Although #3 is not so favourable, but given that metal destroys wood (#3), it is a blessing in disguise. For the bedroom, the best element or colour scheme would be the water element e.g. blue, black or grey. This is the best element, here. Where water can help draw-out or reduce the metal element. Try to avoid using real water, in the bedroom - this is a double-edged sword. Warmest Regards, Cecil

water feature in south
Dear Anooja, Under this current Period 8: 1. Past prosperity sectors are WS:7 and/or MS:7 This is already considered as past prosperity and not worth activating unless there is a double 7 (which in this case, a water position can be used to drown it). 2. Present prosperity sectors are now WS:8 and/or MS:8 If the sector meets the conditions e.g. if there is clear space such as in a living room and if this location has WS:8, then water can be used to activated wealth here. Similiarly check to see if a mountain star can be activated at section with MS:8 3. Future prosperity Since we are under Period 8, we should not forget about #9 since #9 is known as the future prosperity. This sector (also if it meets the criteria) can also be activated. To bring in a chain of present prosperity with future prosperity. An auspicious combination. For example, it would be a pity to activate or place water at a location that has #9 (fire element). As mentioned, the above are not fixed rules but rather, it should be taken as a guideline since it is always best to compare all three elements: WS with MS with Base to come up with a proper balance. Warmest Regards, Cecil

activating mountain star
Dear Anooja, For both mountain and water star, one has to look carefully at the sector to see if it can be activated. For MS8, if it is at the north and if there is a wall behind it (not an open window), than the mountain star can be activated here. As opposed to the west. Since you had mentioned that west has a ws8. And ws8, goes with a water position not a mountain position. For example:- MS = 8 This is the current period - mountain star location. In your case, it is at North WS=8 In your case is at West. Or this is the water wealth location. Warmest Regards, Cecil
