Dear Allison, Under Traditional Feng Shui, the two major schools used are: 1. Shapes and Form 2. Compass School (Eight House & Flying Star) In my opinion, the most accurate Feng Shui is the use of (Para 1 and 2) in combination with one's Ba Zi (Pillars of Destiny) - in particular one's element and strength. 3. This is what is know as Ba Zi Feng Shui. It is widely used system as it is considered the most accurate. As it not only takes into account " Feng Shui " of the house but it also takes into account the persons who intent to live or are currently living in the house. 4. For a start, the key word is `protect, protect, protect'. You should stand at your main entrance door facing outwards of the house. Do this i.e. standing at all the windows of your house and look for poison arrows or sha qi. Here, look out especially for e.g. a lone lamp post slicing thru your main entrance door. Or a pointed object such as the sharp angle of another building pointed into your home (main door) or windows). 5. You should also try to understand more about Shapes and Form Feng Shui. For example you can look thru the various topics on this. For the interior, also such as the good placement of beds, furniture and what to avoid e.g. overhead beams etc... 6. For the `lucky' few who live in homes that have `excellent' Feng Shui. Here, if your Shapes and Form of the environment, the site and home - can be interpreted as able to retain wealth... and if this happening... Then, I consider this a Quantum leap in Feng Shui. Where your earth luck is on the high side e.g. 70% to 90%. Where wealth comes naturally. And one do not need to go searching ( " Like mad ") to get it. 7. For the less fortunate "souls", may have to try to squeeze out as much luck as we can get out of it. And this is where, the majority of humanity starts to find the illusive `wealth'. 8. Here, the Compass School Feng Shui such as Eight House is used. And more often the Flying Star Feng Shui is used MOSTLY to try to neutralise bad sectors (first) and then it is used to look at sectors where we can activate to bring in or squeeze further luck. 9. Overall, as mentioned earlier, your building has on it's own it's Feng Shui. And the Feng Shui of all units within this block. 10. For an individual apartment, such as yours, you can also check out your individual unit's Feng Shui. As mentioned, reading up on Shapes and Forms and applying it. (Protect, protect and protect) if necessary. And if you want to go further, than use the Compass School methods etc.... If you are applying Compass School Feng Shui; then you need to find the `center-point' of your individual unit and from there; take a compass reading from this center-point to the main entrance door. Dear Wendy, 1. Appreciate if you can confirm whether when you mention "the door direction is south @210 deg." Are u referring to the main entrance door or your room door. 2. If it is your room door, then, what you mentioned may not be exactly correct to assess the overall position. 3. Especially since it is difficult to divide a small room into North-South; East-West since they can be pretty close to each other. Where it takes is only a few steps to go from North to South or South to East etc... 4. Ideally, when you take a reading, it should be taken from the center-point of the house to the main entrance. And in relation to this which compass direction(s) is your room located in. 5. For a small room, the impact on your overall Feng Shui would thus depend on the `greater' picture i.e. the environment; the site and say the house that you are staying in. This has the most impact on you. Rather than just your room alone. 6. For a small room, what you can do here to generally check - Under the Eight House theory, what intangible force of yours is at the room. This is just a consideration or understanding. 7. Otherwise, as you mentioned, whichever direction you place the bed, it can still be seen facing the bedroom door. Under this situation, we can only make full use of the Shapes and Form Feng Shui: 7.1. Where possible, try to see if the bed can be placed on the opposite side of the bedroom door. 7.2. Where possible, the headrest should preferably be placed against a solid back. 7.3. If there is a window and should the bed be placed next to it, try to leave a gap between the bed and the window. 7.4. Where possible, try to avoid having the head face or seen from the bedroom door. Dear Anon, Please see below:- I hope I understand correctly. Do you mean to say that your house has a slope at the back of the house. Frankly, I have seen many situations (not sure) if it is the same description of your house where: one walks into the front of the house. But the house was e.g. built 3 levels, where the two other levels are built lower down. For example, the highest level is the frontage and because of the slope in the property, the rest of the house is built at lower levels (due to the slope). From the frontage the house looks more like a one storey (level) house. Not sure if this fits your description or not. Under Shapes and Form Feng Shui, this is not an ideal situation especially it is directly behind the house. I can understand why architects in the west do this. Mostly due to privacy reasons. But it would be the worst impact if it is behind the house (west side). The rationale here is that while it is good to activate water positions at the frontage; the back should normally have a solid backing. Under the Eight House Theory, there is really not much `cure' here. Here the theory can assist one to locate good sectors to spent time at. But if it is not a good sector, there is not much under this theory. As each theory or concept has its own strengths and limitations. In my opinion, it is difficult to correct a sloping home. The best option in the long term (or long run) is to find a better home. Just 3 weeks ago, I visited one of my client's father's bungalow house for an audit. Fortunately, his home is on the better side. While, there is a home that was left vacant just 100 metres away which is sloping. Dear Anon, What you mentioned is too general to say for sure what may be `wrong' with your relationship luck. This is because, there are quite a substantial number of reasons for this: 1. It may be your home (Earth luck). Here, it may involve as many as two major Feng Shui theories such as Shapes and Form and Compass School methods. (There could be perhaps some Shapes and Form - problems and/or Flying Star related `relationship' problems that may need to be neutralised. 2. It may be your Ba Zi (Pillars of Destiny - Heaven's Luck) 3. Other than the above, it may be other reasons beyond 1 or 2. Dear Sam, 1. Where possible, the pair of triangle speaks should not be positioned such as it is aimed at a person. For example, place each speaker such that it's pointed edge does not aim directly towards a seat (where a person could be sitting down). 2. It is a no, no - or inauspicious for the speakers to be placed in the master bedroom. As symbolically, if it is placed in a married couple's room could signify - separation or divorce (if it is located in this room). 3. Dear Rosen, 1. Do you have a sketch (even a simple outline) will do of your plot of land in relation to the highway and the `enclave' of e.g. teh business district. 2. Describe, what is at the frontage, back and both sides of your plot of land:- 2.1. In general what is the road that leads into your building. 2.2. What are the height of the neighbouring buildings. 2.3 Is this an industrial (manufacturing) or business (commercial area) and are the neighbours (manufacturing or commercial). 3. Usually if your plot of land is `enclosed' within a district meant for business; it does not imply the same as what I mentioned earlier i.e. the residential area. Dear Ingrida, Actually, I believe what you mentioned is not Flying Star Feng Shui but rather the Eight House Theory. We may have to take the Eight House Theory with a `pinch of salt' for situations where there is no rooms that we can ideally spent more time at. Usually, this theory is used more for: 1. How suitable the house is to the breadwinner. 2. As you mentioned, it is good to spent time at good sectors. But if there are considered `no' good sectors to spent time at; one need not be say `upset' over it. This theory is meant more for the `initial' house hunting. For example, when house hunting, it can help or aid us to further decide which house to choose base on the direction of the main entrance and whether there are good sectors where we can spent time at. 3. Dear Jagannath, Usually, one has to look at the building opposite your hotel also i.e. the element of that particular building when looking at the colours of the main entrance doors. Option 1: 1. Fire element (Red) - Usually the is an auspicious colour for the Chinese: 1.1. It is in harmony with SW (Earth) sector. 1.2. Iti s a colour suitable for " Food Related " and it signifies activity i.e. Marketing and Sales. Option 2: 2. Wood element (Brown or Green) - Natural wood or brown signifies growth for the business. Option 1 is usually the best option when brass is oraments are included in the red door. For the size of the main door, it has to be proportionate to the entire facade of the hotel. Dear Angelina, Under the Eight House theory: 1. Determine who is the breadwinner (or the person who brings back the most money.) If the earnings is nearly the same, then preference is for the breadwinner to be the (male) husband of the house. 2. It is best to find the most suitable house for the breadwinner. The most suitable house is `Excellent' sector at the main entrance. The main entrance can also be the three other good sectors e.g. Prosperity, Health and Longevity. 3. For the other spouse; try find a house where it is good for say the husband under para 2. and for the wife, it can be other intangible forces such as `spook' or `irritation' at the main entrance. 4. Likewise, look at another critical location i.e. the masterbedroom and see if this can be good sector for oneo or the other or at least, not too bad intangible force e.g. irrititation and spook. Thus, you can consider your house as having two rectangles. 2. Overall, this shape is still an auspicious shape for apartment blocks. Dear Angelina, House of Life & House of Conception are two ADVANCED pillars used only in advanced pillars of destiny anaysis. Of greater importance is the House of Life as that determines if you are a Strong or Weak person. As it denotes how your life is based on your Eight Characters. House of Conception is more useful for female analysis and it help to detemine areas like marriage and spouse relationships. Generally for any person there is 4 types of of relation, Weak yin Wood, Strong yin Wood, Weak yang Wood, Strong yang Wood. Generally the yin & yang helps more to tell about the characteristics of a person. As there is a difference in character for a yin wood and a yang wood person. So simply when added together gives you a better overview of yourself. However, for understanding more about what elements are favourable to you etc, it is usually determined by the Strong or Weak Wood more than the yin or yang wood, as that i mentioned does not mean that yin is weak and yang is strong. Hi Anon, RED string version is used to control the Metal so that you can effectively use it to control all the problem sectors. This is the correct cure to use for fixing problems. YELLOW string on the other hand has an objective to hopefully increase wealth as it uses Earth as the Wealth and thus Metal destroy it to create wealth. This the it "concept". However, often in good sector, you would probably want to activate the Water areas with Water features as usually those are the better stars you wish to induce rather than just the wealth from the 6 coins. This can be a debatable issue and it depends on your opinion. In my personal opinion, I also classify Electicity as Water. You need to perform a major renovation which should involve a change in the house structure to effectively change the house period. ie to hack off a wall or to add a wall changing the structure of the interior of the house. If you redo the entire roof, it will also be considered changing the structure of the house. But the more effective way in my opinion to having a change in the interior structure of the house. Dear Max Rosen, Happy new year to your too! Generally, the main door should be where your house number is located. However, for landed properties sometimes you have a choice of two entrance. Thus, it the main door becomes the one which you frequently use, as that is where the Qi enters and exit the house most frequently. Which one you should choose should depends on:- 1. Is that main door direction suitable to you (ie North-West, is it a good or bad sector for you - prosperity or diaster based on your Eight House Suitability) 2. Next depends on which has a better overall Stars (ie. which main door has overall better House analysis by the Flying Star report) Usually you would want to choose the better door direction. You can make use of the Free Flying Star report to help you on this, see which report has less problem sectors and if there are problem sectors you should rectify it to get better luck from it. Hi Anon, Please see below:- The priority you should be taking is as follows:- A. The house should be 1st suitable to the breadwinner (your husband). Since both of you are of opposite EIght House, which by the way is a common issue for most people. Likely it is not your death or disaster sector which would be worst. B. Next, you should then focus on choosing a a bedroom that hopefully is suitable for the two of you. However, in most cases, it would be hard to find it as it would likely again be such a case where your husband is good and your is bad. So you can try to choose a bedroom if possible where either of the following:- 1. Good for you and maybe irritation for your husband. 2. Good for your husband and maybe irritation for you. (So long as for the bedroom, you do not choose a bedroom which is DEATH or DIASTER it will.) Preferably to have option 1 because since your husband is already staying in his favourable house, staying in a slightly less auspicious bedroom to accomodate his wife is acceptable. C. Next is to position your sleeping position. ie (try to use each other as a shield). Say for example you choose to sleep in North bedroom, where North-West is better for your husband and North-East is better for you. Then you will sleep in the North bedroom where you sleep closer to North-East and your husband sleep closer to the North-West side of the bed. This way you will make use of each other to shield yourself from the not so favourable influence. This is normally how to resolve this opposite problem issue which is a very common problem. The other issue is to enhance your personal self (ie if you are a weak wood), then have more blue colours to improve your personal luck. For the bedroom, you will need to know the binding element between you and your husband so that you can find a colour that would be beneficial to both of you. (ie weak wood and Strong Metal). Dear James, 1. In my opinion, the biggest influence in the home (`Earth' luck) relates more to the external environment, the site and the home. 2. Usually, other than the external environment and the site, the next important consideration is the (entire house). 3. Therefore; even if you had rented a room, it is but of secondary importance as the whole house has to be related to. 4. What I am trying or hoping to emphaise here is that your room is but just one sector of the whole house. 5. Usually, a full house is audited and checked for any imbalances (if any) within each sector. If there are any imbalance, then it should be `cured'. Say, after applying the cure for that sector; and the imbalance is neutralised, we usually do not look at that sector (other than say the yearly Flying Star influence). This summarises the use of the Flying Star Feng Shui. (If it is applied) 6. Besides this, Shapes and Form Feng Shui for both interior and exterior of the home should be utilised. 7. In your case, you can try using the Eight House Theory. Here, you should try to check which sector your rented room is at. And see if this a good sector. And if possible, try to sleep at a good sector or nice to have if one sleeps facing a good direction. 8. For your rented room, frankly no matter where you relocate your belongings, it will usally still be within one or two true compass directions. For example, the room could straddle between say North East and East Sector or simply at only one sector such as the East (as an example). 9. For a `small' room, therefore, there is nothing much or significant one can do. 10. We can still apply the Yin and Yang concept here. If the room is used for multiple roles. Dear Serene, 1. The best `neutral' colour in Feng Shui is white. White serves two fold: 1. it represents the metal element and is one of the safest element to apply. 2. Under the Yin and Yang concept, white makes the house `brighter'. For those who just got their condominiums, can choose to continue with the colour painted. Usually, condominiums use white interior or light cream. This still OK. 3. Dear Anon, 1. Although sector Feng Shui is not practised here, I really don't see any harm in doing so i.e. SW = romance sector... 2. The 33.3 percent rule-set: 2.1 Usually, under Feng Shui; major impact is based on this rule-set. For example if we paint the walls in the bedroom `pink'; and if it > 33.3 percent of the entire surface of the walls in the room; then the predominate element is changed to Fire element (pink). 2.2 Usually, a small item e.g. rose quartz is a minor element - thus considered relatively little impact on a sector. It can be considered as decorative item. 3. Symbolism in Feng Shui Here, symbolism is important in Feng Shui. For example, the use of numbers: 3.1 Six (6 coins) used as a cure in Feng Shui 3.2 Instead of applying the 33.3 percent ruleset. Where another example is that a missing corner is a sector of that corner has a missing floor area equal to or exceeding 33.3 percent. 3.3 We can use another alternative concept under Symbolism in Feng Shui. Dear Anon, 1. In Traditional Feng Shui, especially, if one uses Compass School Feng Shui, the `wealth corner' is subjective. 2. The rationale here is that there is not only one wealth sector but to achieve: maximum wealth or Luck potential; one has to balance all sectors and accord equal emphasis of attention on all sectors. 3. There is really no harm in placing a tin container that you cherish at any location of the home where you feel comfortable with. 4. In addition, this concept applies here " If one cannot see it; it no longer is effective". 5. Thus, coins kept in a tin would remain as a `tin box'. Usually, in Feng Shui, an item has to be visible for it `to work'. 6. For example, when say, applying a cure at a sector i.e. such as hanging 6 coins or a wind chime; these items has to be visible. 7. It is no point putting 6 coins in a drawer at a sector. It does not work that way in Feng Shui. Or if one is suppose to hang a wind chime; instead of hanging it up; we keep it say in a display cabinet. 8. The above are some `quirks' in Feng Shui. Like it's cousin: If one no longer sees, it no long becomes a threat'. 9. This is equally true for items say to be used as a cure. It has to be `displayed' such as hung at a wall. And from this centrepoint; check the direction of the house i.e. stand at the centrepoint of the house and from that location; take a compass reading. Dear Anon, 1. Thanks for your sketch of your own apartment. 2. Based on the sketch (alone) it is difficult to say for sure whether the SW is a missing corner - at the moment. Is it possible to have a sketch of the entire building. 3. This is because, usually, the missing corner or protusions are looked at in relation to this entire building. For now, it can go either ways:- 3.1. a missing corner as what you have mentioned or 3.2. a protusion (less likely) but need to confirm based on the total building profile. or It is simply an L shaped building. The shape of the building matters as from it one can see if there are perhaps any imbalance in Qi flow around it. For example if the building is U shaped, Qi may become Sha Qi within the U area. The district in Katong, Singapore is a rustic area filled with many beautiful - old houses built between 1890s to 1960's. 2. Attachment shows a house built around 1930's with a distinctive Ba Gua (Fire type of living room area). 3. In another photo " old-and-new.jpg " you will find the backdrop (this old bungalow landed property) shown against high rise Singapore Public Housing " 5 Room " flats built by the Public Housing Development Board for nearly 90 percent of the population. These distintive Five Room flats are built around the 1970's. 4. There is another picture: "opposite-neighour.jpg " This low rise walk up flats are also pretty old built around 1960's.
