Nevertheless, if you have the time, you can chart out both the Period 6 and Period 7 chart. 3. Since last year, I had been drawing both Period 7 and Period 8 charts for all on-site clients. Unlike Period 6 charts: Period 7 and Period 8 seems quite `similar' in problem areas for the same sectors. 4. Often, the difference would be instead of sickness sectors; this has been `replaced' by #4 or #3 (bad wood). And often, in many instances, if the Period 7 chart is not that good; Period 8 also does not seem that good also. 5. If one has the time, try to chart out your home for both Period 7 and Period 8 - and most often, one may get the same conclusion (as under Para 4 above). 6. Under Feng Shui: Water positions can be looked at from: 6.1 Shapes and Forms Feng Shui and 6.2 Flying Star Feng Shui. When one mentions trying to improve one's luck under Period 8; this is based on Flying Star Feng Shui. We must still make sure that our home conform to Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. And afterwards, try to see if we can `chase' after #7 or #6. Since #7 and #6 are sectors with metal; (and if the other sectors) can support water - then we can use water to activate this sector. For example: if the sector has #7 mountain and #7 water stars than we can add water to metal to activate it. Dear Anon, I believe, since you have been staying in this home, already. If you have been staying in this home for several years; one best way - is to chart out two charts. And compare each chart to your current situation. And check which chart coincides with your current situation. This is a much better way to resolve your situation. Anyway, often, one thing will not change for the same period home i.e. the base numbers. Plus the Year numbers are the same for all charts. In both of the arguments that you had mentioned; both are not wrong. As mentioned, above, draw to charts and see which more accurately `fits' your situation. Most often, because of the common base numbers; Period 7 homes will often have the same characteristics e.g. East and South sectors are unfavourable. In addition, for this year: North is not as favourable - given that North has #2 and South East has #5. Already the `fixed' base for Period 7 : East = #5 and South = #2. For each given period there are always TWO FIXED charts i.e. base chart and year chart. And with these two already `fixed', seems like in reality: even before, we ADD any #mountain #water to this chart, often, some sectors will remain bad for majority of the charts. Dear Anon, 1. To the Chinese, it is inauspicious to have the legs facing outwards towards the bedroom door. This is often called the `coffin' position. (Where, traditionally, we bring out a dead person: legs first - head later out of a home. 2. A bed need not be farther away from the door, but as mentioned, it is best not to face the door. Does it mean that one of the spouse has "TWO NIGHT STANDS?". *JOKE* 3. Frankly, these are pretty minor in Feng Shui. But on an asthetic side, often, a queen bed seem to look `more balanced' or uniform with two lamps on each side. Then again, it is not very critical in Feng Shui. 4. Here, we can look at it also from "commonsense" approach i.e. it would be more convenient at night for each partner to turn on and off the light when they go to e.g. the bathroom or outside the hall. Otherwise, the next time, if you happen to visit a friend's home or even a relative's home: and find only one night light - most likely - that partner is `hand-pecked' or alternatively "the controller" of lights? Often, an apartment that is higher than 4th storey, would not have a lone lamp post slicing into it. 3. In several studies, there were no reported evidence that power lines cause `Sha qi'. - Magnetism from powerlines is unlike radiation e.g from the sun or micro-wave etc... 4. For the barren field, it is ok if it is not an entire `long stretch' e.g. streching from several miles. I am Santanu Biswas - My date of birth: The most practical approach in applying Feng Shui is via "priorities". Here, we should be aware of what are CRITICAL and what are NICE-TO-HAVE situations: Critical issues: 1. Shapes and Forms of the room 1.1 Often, our placement of beds and furniture e.g. work/study table has much to do with the layout of a bedroom: where is the bedroom door, what shape does the bedroom take? where is the toilet, toilet door; where are the windows? For condos, often, the built-in wardrope has been `fixed'. 1.2 Thus, often, if the room is small, there are not much locations where we can place the bed or the study desks etc... 1.3 Light Qi Often, if our room (or study room) windows are directly facing the afternoon sun e.g. West or even East, it would not be appropriate to place the study table facing e.g. the afternoon sun. Imagine the poor child, has to study "with his eyes" facing the afternoon sun. It is a true torture indeed! Here, one cannot blame if the child asks for sunglasses to study! (Worse is, that this location - directly facing the west sun can be quite hot!) 1.4 Thus, under the Eight House /4 Good-Bad directions, even if WEST is this child's best direction; we should not merely follow this concept blindly. Thus, from this simple illustration, try to differentiate between what are "Important/Critical" and what are "Nice-to-have". If this simple structure is applied, I am sure, one will not get confused. Often, some of the external issues include: wrong placement of water positions etc... 2. Under Compass School of Feng Shui, if one had already stayed in a home; often, what we (practitioners) do is to draw several Flying Star charts to look at the home to see if it `matches' the problems that has been faced inside a home. 3. Thus instead of trying to figure whether the home belongs to period `X' or `Y'; the most practical approach is to try to do a chart of the current period, first e.g. Period 7, since you had mentioned that there were some renovations done during this period. 4. Dear Gek Soo, There are two ways of looking at fire positions: 1. The stove can be considered as a fire protection. Not so much of activating it but rather to see, if it is at a favourable location. 2. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, often, the star numbers at a specific location has to be looked at. And, if there are imbalance in a sector, we can in this way `activate' a "fire element". For example: Period 7 South-East 2 (135 degrees house) East sector has:- mountain star #6 water star #4 base star = 5 Here, Metal 6 destorys wood, wood element is destroyed or weakened by metal. Wood star 4 is inauspicious. However, meal is not sufficient. Here, a FS practitioner may recomend using Fire element to this sector. Thus adding a link of Fire to: Wood (4) -> Add Fire -> Earth (5) and -> Metal (6) This flow will be acceptable under the productive sequence of the five elements. Under this same SE chart: South sector has: mountain #3 water #1 base star #2 Under this sector: Wood helps to exhaust water, wter element is weaken by wood, which inturn makes wood stronger. And there is no elements to control or neutralise it. Hence, Fire element can be added to neutralise it and at the same time provide a positive productive flow: Water -> Wood -> add Fire -> Earth Alternatively, one can still use an alternative: Metal in all the above two examples. For those who are new here, please don't ask me questions like what are mountain, water stars etc... Please do SEARCH for informatin on Flying Star Feng Shui. The other area where `fire' element is activated is based on one's Ba Zi elements. Within the four walls; as you had mentioned; placement of beds are often restricted by the size of the bedroom, the location of the bedroom door, the windows and any attached bathrooms. 2.1 Therefore, given such a situation; preferably - the bed-head should be placed against a solid wall. 2.2 Under the Eight House, if the one's head cannot face a good direction or especially if the bedroom is unfavourable to a spouse; let the spouse with the better `intangible' force sleep closer to the side closest to this `intangible' force. Whle the partner sleeps further away i.e. on the opposite side. 3. Besides the Shapes and Forms, one can still apply the Flying Star Feng Shui - to check for imbalances (if any) in the bedroom. Often, if one's house was built or had a major renovation done under this current period: Period 7 (1984 to 2003); then; most likely bedrooms location at East and South do (depending) on the chart; have "sickness or misfortune/sickness" stars. Here (geomancy.net); the House of Life and House of Conception are also considered. 3. One of the rationale is besides other considerations; the more variables i.e. stems and branches, the more we can analyse any double or triple combination clashes. These clashes sometimes are unfavourable: while other clashes are favourable. 4. House of Life or how `hard' is one's life or if one was born with a silver spoon is another consideration that can sway one's element e.g. weak water to strong water etc... 5. Thus under Ba Zi, one must understand that even if one's birth element or (assuming) that it is water: but is it `weak' or `strong'. It is not correct to consider the Year of birth being one's element. But rather, the day of birth element. 6. Is the water: Strong or weak? Dear Victor, 1. For the layout plan, often, the emphasis is to try to find the `center-of-gravity' of a home. 2. There is really no hard and fast rule as to whether a balcony can or should be excluded. Often, a more important issue is the garage: as this often occupies a larger area and if we take the entire garage into consideration, it may distort the center-of-gravity of a home. 3. For a balcony, it has to be looked into in relation to the entire layout plan. 4. For example, some balcony protrudes on a landed property. If so, often, we should not take this into account. 5. If the balcony is within the fringe of the entire layout plan (or top-view) and it does not seem to protude-out of the house, then we may consider it as within the home. 6. As mentioned, it depends. And, it is very difficult to give a one-off answer. Feel free to post a layout plan so that I can make comments on where the center-point is. 7. I have just scanned thru your message, but did not fully understand it. But for the star chart of 5ms 2 ws and 7, yes, with such a combination, a third element water is useful here. Under the Five elements concept: Earth -> Metal -> Water Since #5 and #2 are bad earth; Metal can help to draw out some of these earth. But not enough. In fact, this location should have `more metal' to help to further balance #5 and #2. A double edged sword is #7 weak earth. During this current period 7, #7 is still favourable. After 2004, this #7 is not as favourable. Thus especially next year, water is favourable to help reduce #7. Overall, this three cycle flow is considered auspicious or ok. Warmest Regards, Cecil
